BigW Photos prints are really good quality. I created a 100x200 canvas for my mum a few years ago with a bunch of old family photos. It's been hanging in the living room and the print still looks great.

I order customised calendars for work each year when they're on sale, with photos and birthdays. They're printed on thick stock cardboard and the print quality is really good, especially for the price (usually $10-15 per calendar).

Really? Because last time I used them, their portal downsampled ALL uploaded photos to 4000x3000 pixels. Their support people did not understand my complaint and could not resolve it. Best to check image properties after upload. I haven't checked for a while if they still do this.

I don't use them anymore because of this.

      • Check it out people. My 40MB+ photos uploaded remarkably quick. A quick download of them and they’re about 2MB. Can anyone recommend an optimum dimensions / file size to resize to before uploading? To avoid the website uploader downsampling them.

        • -1

EVERYTHING is downsampled to a max of 4000x3000 pixels AND recompressed client-side before upload.

No way you'd print a sharp image above 20" from that, because you'd drop below 2000 dpi.

      • The images I uploaded for the 100x200 canvas came out alright - they were scans of old photos from the 80s. Obviously Big W Photos is not professional grade printing, but honestly I've been really pleased with the quality for what I need (and the prices I've paid during their specials).

I'd be tempted to goatse one for a mate as a prank but

    1) I'm sure that would be against the T's & C's
    2) Why would I want to waste $59

    • Totally worth $59.

      Do it.

  • Would my iPhone 6s photos look crap on this? Given camera quality.

    • I took some on a 5S and they look pretty great

  • +9

Do note, the last couple i have had done have been about half a stop under exposed compared to the proofs on a calibrated screen.

Worth upping the exposure slightly for these.

    • +1

Agree. What looked fine on my phone when I uploaded to their server, resulted in a slightly dark print. Not terrible but you could definitely see it on one person in the group photo was a bit too shaded (they were wearing a beach hat).

Doing it again I'd increase the brightness a bit after the fact or increase exposure on the camera if I knew I was going to get them printed on canvas at big w.

What looked fine on my phone when I uploaded to their server

I think you experienced the issue because you used your phone.

It's better to use a computer, and you also get more customisation options on the full (non-mobile) version of their website.

Mine was a colour calibrated export from Photoshop. Definitely a half stop under

Save yourself a couple of dollars. This deal below is cheaper, has fast delivery to your door rather than instore pickup, multiple canvas sizes, better online software with different wrap options.

Please note that it is not expired, that was just the date to ensure Christmas delivery.

  • ooooooo time to put up some replica popart! any ideas on where to get digital files of iconic paintings?

  • +3

No, no, no. For $47 delivered from photobookshop.com.au! https://www.photobookshop.com.au/voucher#resize_m_CANVAS

    • Wow, good offers there too. Have you used them? How's the quality?

      • +3

I wonder that too. Prices are amazing (100x75 for $49!) but recent reviews are atrocious.

        • +4

Appears people gave poor review because they were a bit late in shipping the items to them. Sounds too many people left their ordering way too late and wanted a miracle for xmas delivery. Hahaha.

          • +1

@Logical: Yes, they did seem centred around customer service and delivery times. The canvas I ordered through Big W earlier this year took almost two weeks to be ready anyhow and still had to be picked up. I haven't used Big W again after finding the better deal through Catch/Fabness, but for $49 for 100x75 these guys might be worth a punt regardless.

Do you know how thick the wooden frames are on their canvasses?

        • Looks like you have to buy a voucher and then email it to yourself and then make the custom canvas?

          • +1

@bobzor: Vouchers are emailed to you. Sometimes you get 6 months to place order. So buy voucher now and place order when you have photos ready.

        • Far too many negative reviews for my liking. Lots of them for well before Christmas period with appalling customer service. Looks like they were much better in the past (good reviews are all from early 2018).

      • +3

Quality is great. Use them all the time. Last canvas i got was the 100 x 75cm and was real good. Also get around 6 photo books per year. And fridge magnets too.

All my orders are delivered within reasonable time. No complaints here.

While you can post this as a deal, I don’t find this alone to be ‘Neg’ worthy. You have good experience with these guys but cannot negate others experiences good or bad. Christmas or otherwise.
So do consider removing your ‘Neg’ instead.

This $59 from Big W is still a deal to me. For, maybe, my personal reasons but certainly not negworthy.

    • Has anyone who bought canvas prints from both Big W and photobookshop? Care to comment?

    • +2

Seriously? You neg a deal because of that? How about just making the comment without the neg. You can go in store and upload you images in a number of different ways. This kind of behaviour disencourages others, that are good enough to share, from posting deals they find. And others like you benefit from.

    • +2

It's probably because the Flash component does the resampling to low quality.

    • Developer here, had to +1 that. Still +1 the deal but I know where this guy is coming from.

  • Hi can anyone Message the sites i can download high quality picture to print. Like famous drawing or beautiful environment photo.

    • +2

      Have you asked google?

    • +1

My fav for CC0 photos is Pexels

Otherwise just google with size set to large.

    • You might as well get a print from Cheap as Chips (or similar), you can get a bigger canvas for less money as they are mass produced in China.

    • Pretty cool stuff worth a scroll.
Seems to be a common theme.
Anime, Artwork, CGI, Asian girl - repeat

      • all of that was once considered a meme but now going mainstream, there's something in it.

        • +1

          Fibonnaci?

  • Thanks for posting the deal …Just made the wife happy by getting a family poster done at a great price too!

  • Last time I used this the quality wasn’t there, used high quality photos still wasn’t really happy with what I got

  • please run adobe flash

I don't even have a web browser compatible with adobe flash in 2018/19

Where do professionals photographer go for their canvas print in Perth I wonder? Surely they dont use bigw, officework, or HN right?

  • Any chances on change of mind? Order submitted 2 hours ago. Can I be saved?

    • +1

definitely you can't change your mind, bin there, tried that :(

  • I've had about 9 photo books done, 4 calendars, and 1 canvas over the last 3 years. The canvas was a small one and I was disappointed with the colours, I prefer my canvases I have had done by Fabness (but this was about 4 years ago). I do like the photo books, and the calendars, my main frustration with BigW is I would like to add more text in photo books but it's messy. Plus once you save on one format you can't copy over to another format. Not sure I'd risk a large canvas though :/

    • You should do a youtube review. There's none I could find.
