Not a bad price for business seat with a major carrier especially on long fight, but the question remain is it worth the extras when cattle class is only about $800-$1000 off peak of course.

    • -3

The question is is it worth an extra $1100 for a once in a lifetime experience?

      • +7

Business class with qf is nowhere near a once in a lifetime experience.

Etihad apartments on the other hand…

        • +1

Yeah if you would like to fork out $16k+ for it. Go right ahead.

      • +2

I sincerely hope it isn't once in a lifetime ;)

        • +2

          For most people it is.

          • +1

@nightelves: It shouldn't given the amount of bonus points going around. Point taken!

        • I suspect it will be never in a lifetime for me. I choose 3-4 economy flights instead. In this case, it's the price of 5 flights compared to some other deals.

    • +8

200% of economy class price for business class is actually extremely reasonable as the going rate is usually at least 300%

Really depends where you go. I go to Maui twice a year and barely see an Aussie. On the way back we sometimes do a night or two in Waikiki and it is full of them!

In response to the original topic…I can never justify flying business to Hawaii because its a pretty easy flight but I reckon on these fares it is almost worth it. Only problem is the ancient planes that QANTAS uses on the route

      • Ancient yes being the B747's, but exactly the same product as Qantas' A380. Skybed Mk2.

I have been to both Bali and Hawaii (returning to Hawaii, not to Bali!), this is absolute utter nonsense. Hawaii is a heck of a lot better than Bali in every way other than cost/value. Even Waikiki where you can find ausssies has plenty of upsides (factory outlets, pearl harbour, the cheesecake factory to name just a few). Thats not even considering the other Islands, like Kauai, where you'll be hard pressed to find another ausssie and be left in awe by the natural beauty.

Also, surf is much much much better

  • When's the best time to go?

    • +1

Anytime thats not holiday time for americans i'd say. Weather wise its pretty good most of the year. We went in September in 2016 it was great.

  • Is there an easy way to see a calendar of dates for search? I'm trying to find flights during March from Melbourne.

  • +6

A pro tip, if you want to max you FF points and status credits, don't depart from Sydney. Even adding the Brisbane leg you get 2800 FFs and 80 SCs extra for only $38 more. Sometimes you can add extra unnecessary domestic legs and really boost your points earn for only a little more in cost.

    • QF don’t fly BNE-HNL

      • +2

That's why you get the extra legs

        • +4

Fair enough, but I’m not sure why my comment was downvoted when it is relevant. Flying SYD-BNE-SYD-HNL will add many hours onto the journey.

    • But what if you're already in Sydney? If you dont fly the domestic, would that not count as no show for the rest of the flights?

      • You fly to Brisbane first because if you don't you lose the rest of the flights.

        • +1

You then have to fly back to Sydney anyway. Who has time for that?

          • +5

@Melon126: Someone who wants 2800 FFs and 80 SCs extra for only $38 more

            • +3

              @spaceflight: Confused

              for only $38 more

what about the flight to Brisbane and then back to Sydney?

              • -1

@snook: Yeah of course they are extra, but for some people the points are worth it.

$38 extra for the international return, plus getting to Brisbane and back.

                • +2

                  @spaceflight: ok, but

                  for only $38 more

                  is hardly true. It's $38 + at least $280

    • Sorry this is new for me.. so could you please help me understand how did you get the $38 figure? I mean how do I add the domestic leg on the qantas website.

      • +1

It's included as Qantas international only departs out of Sydney to Honolulu, so if you book out of another city, you get another business class flight at very little cost. It's handy for people who are close to getting a higher Frequent Flyer level.

        • Thanks Pcoder!

    • If you are already in Sydney, do you have to take the Brisbane flight or just forfeit it?

      • +1

If you don’t take it the rest of your booking will be cancelled. You have to fly SYD-BNE-SYD for it to work.

        • Ah understood - thanks for clarifying

  • Hawaiian are direct from Sydney and Brisbane for the same price and you’ve got bonus CASHREWARDS on currently.

  • +1

    But no double status bonus…

  • Is it possible to price match at Qantas website ?

  • +1

if your looking for big QFF points or getting to status like gold with all its benefits, this is a bargain at half price. We've done this a couple times to HNL on the 747, and the upper bubble cabin is awesome with only 14 huge seats/bed, 2 cabin crew and private loo, oh yeah…

  • Is there a first class on these flights and would you be able to upgrade using points? Aren't the 747s the ones where you can sit further forward than the pilot?

  • No 1st class on the jumbo 747..

    • +1

It’s not flying on the qantas a330 though? Most of my dates were the less superior business class 747

      • +2

Na they have replaced the 330 with 747.

  • Is this Qantas metal or Jetstar metal?

    • +1

      Qantas metal using Boeing 747-400.
