  • Seems late in the season for growing most of these from seed, but I'm in Sydney. Can you still put seeds in now and expect a late crop in southern Qld? If so, I'm envious.

    • Not too late to grow any of these, you'll still get a decent crop before winter.

    • you should be envious of SEQLD - we rule everything

  • I can’t get form to submit on iphone. Keeps saying this value is required even though I’ve completed everything

    • Same on my android. Maybe only work on PC browsers.

nice, too bad i'm not in QLD

In the past VIC government used to give lots of free stuff like this, no more

    • You only reep what you sow

  • +3

If you don't live in QLD and would like some free seeds, you can easily get tomato, cucumber, zucchini, pumpkin, watermelon and several other types of seeds from the fresh food you buy at the shops. Just place them somewhere with a lot of direct sunlight and keep them moist and they will grow pretty easily.

Carrots, spring onions, basil, lettuce, etc need to be left to grow instead of being picked. Eventually they will grow flowers and seed pods in Autumn, but the seeds will need to be dried and saved for the following year as it's too late to plant them by then.

Heh. I've got about three varieties of tomato, two pumpkins, a cucumber, and possibly some beans (still waiting to see what they turn out to be) which are all 'opportunistic' plants sprouting from seeds that made it through the compost system.

    • I took the white pith and seeds from a couple of chilis (a Carolina Reaper and Habanero) I bought at Coles. Accidentally grew over 80 seedlings!!! I think every seed germinated.

      • They sell Carolina Reaper at Coles?!?!

  • Thanks op got one!

NSW Gov so trash lol, they don't give us these types of things :(

    • exactly

    • +3

You mean they don't force you to pay for these types of things. They're not free when you're paying for them.

Hmm for some reason I can’t enter my unit number. Didn’t proceed. I suspect there’ll be quite a number of misdelivered packets :(

    • +1

Same here, I could select the unit complex but it defaulted to some random Unit number like 9 or whatever.
I manually changed the text in the input field to mine, but yeah the text below that entry still had the initial value "Unit 9" of where it said it was going to deliver to :S

Silly, unintuitive form. Meh, I went ahead with registration anyway anyway. Will see what happens.

    • Doesn't work properly for any unit numbers it seems, business or residential.

    • +2

I put my unit number in the last name box. Hopefully it would work.

      • Same issue with unit number here! Also used the last name box, so fingers crossed!

Governments should send free seeds to all households annually. Both food crops and native plants.

Or a chemtrail mix that could be dropped from the sky.

      • That already happens.. I mean, wait.. what?

        • You’re thinking of trail mix. Don’t do it.

  • Thanks OP, placed an order as well.

Thanks, bought a house in QLD for the free seeds.

  • Any loophole that allows these do go to Sydney?
I did the free blinds one with my Sydney address and it accepted - Hoping it will come 🤞

  • Cherry tomatoes are always good and can weather the whole year in Brisbane although they do slow down over the winter. The spring onions also last the whole year but they are slow to germinate and would benefit from some shade cloth at this time of year.

As far as the rest go, I think that they could have chosen better seeds. The lettuce will get eaten by pests and can struggle in some weathers. Rocket would have been preferable. Mustard greens also do very well in Brisbane and are easier.

Sorry but nobody has a backyard anymore to grow anything. All the new housing stock is either units, townhouses, or detacted houses on tiny blocks that are built almost to the property boundaries.

That said, you can fill the inside on your house with lights and grow "Pot" plants, making $500,000 every 3 months. Pay off your house in less than a year. Marijuana farming is far more profitable than growing 'cherry tomatoes, lettuce, spring onions, basil and carrots'.

  • Using Firefox on a laptop. Couldn't register until I turned off the adblockers.

  • Thanks OP, I got one!

  • comes with estrogen from a never married chook… untold feature: it might confirm you latest address if you have a sper debt. Could end up with 3 chooks tearing on your balls.

Did anyone actually receive the seeds?

    • I registered but have not received anything :(

      • ditto. nothing.

        • I didn't receive any either, and I registered on the first day this was posted iirc.

  • "What you get" nothing so far!
