I see what you did there

  • +2

The iPad pro is probably the most worthwhile since you don't get the "10% off" Apple computer sales often.

Sony/Bose headphones are much better though.

    • +1

Would be good if they offered the option of AirPods instead of Beats.

  • +1

Actually this seems a reasonable (for Apple) deal if your kid is just starting Uni and you want a BTO Mac. You can’t get a jbhifi 10% on a BTO. You also get discounts on the Mac and AppleCare too.

As for quality, you could up that a bit by paying $50 extra for the beats studio headphones.

    • What does BTO even offer these days?

I can't see the options anywhere on the Apple store

      • +1

You choose a standard model and then add the overpriced upgrades they offer like RAM and extra storage.

        • +3

Yes, if Mr Cook wants to really do something to reinvigorate sales growth, doing something about the current upgrade extortion would be right up on the list.

      • Usually higher spec processors, memory or storage. Typically not great value but if it's not able to be upgraded by the user then it comes down to whether or not you are going to need it in the future.

    MacBook Air (2017 model) 128GB - $1499
Educational pricing - $1429 (now with beats “worth” $399)

Officeworks price - $1388 (was $1348 last week) without the beats

Don’t get tempted with a beats product if you don’t need one!

    • That is true. You have to work out the value of the Beats to you. I would suggest stretching for the 2018 model which has the much better display. I have the 2017 model and its screen is subpar.

      • +3

The new model loses the Magsafe, standard USB ports, card reader and has the (subjectively) worse keyboard though.

        • All those things that are missing are "features", don't you know? The loss of Magsafe is terrible, unless you want to sell more laptops. At least one standard USB port would have been nice. I tried the keyboard out at an Apple shop and it was a lot better than their first attempts, but not as good as normal keys. So yes, try both before you buy and consider your usage.

    • Ask Apple to price match

  • +1

Urgh just got a mac last month. Would have just used for the gym or sold as got the ozbargain endorsed bose qc35

    • It it was within 14 days (from an Apple store) and edu pricing, you could potentially ask them to match this deal. Saw on the Apple website that they have some sort of 14 day pricing guarantee whereby if an item drops in price they can refund the difference. This is slightly different as a bundle offer but try your luck!

      • +1

I know that you can return for any reason within 14 days but didn't know about the pricing guarantee!

          https://www.apple.com/au/legal/sales-support/sales-policies/…

If you think about it that makes sense, otherwise people would return the device, get a new one at the lower price. This way they don’t end up shelling out a new machine for an old one.

          • @try2bhelpful: Agreed. I have experience before where they've even let me go beyond the 14 days window when I was returning an unopened box to get a higher spec model.

If you’re a student you can also get a 8%-10% discount off all macs and still claim the headphones too. Just show your student card at the Apple Store or order through Apple’s education website.

    • +2

This is a deal for the education website. The days of 8-10% off for education customers on entry level machines is long gone.

      • Still works for me as a teacher? Perhaps the student pricing is different these days. Appologies if I’m mistaken.

        • Teachers can buy through the Apple education page, at the same price as students.

          • @Daabido: Also letting you know - its not 8%-10% off. For example, the Macbook Air 2017 model is $50 cheaper on the Education portal (i.e. 3.33% cheaper)

            • +1

@ilikedeals: It was actually mr_me450 who was still thinking you could get that kind of discount. As you said, these days it is a much smaller discount.

              • +1

@Daabido: Same as the EPP discounts which have shrunk significantly. Unless it's only sold in the Apple store, you're usually better off buying from a place like JB Hifi, negotiating price down, and then using gift cards.

Lucky dip to see if it's a bent ipad pro out of the box.

I thought this was a deal on Big Macs LOL

  • +1

$80 off any iPad Pro model which is a decent discount plus the Beats headphones which sells for about $125 on eBay.

  • Bought the iPad Pro yesterday, sold the beats for $180 first day, $969 for a new 11 inch pro I’ll take that any day of the year

    • what do you need to do to validate the educational status ?

      • As below… I only showed my .Edu email account on my iPhone. Sydney - George St store.

    • +1

Where did you sell it? Gumtree?

      • yes

  • From what I remember I needed to show a student card in store

    • I only showed my .Edu email account on my iPhone. Sydney - George St store.

  • I used this offer and sold the Beats Skyline on Gumtree. This meant the MacBook Air with Touch ID ended up costing me $1469 (but can also claim tax deduction/depreciation).

Don’t forget if you have a student email, you can often get Office etc for free here: https://products.office.com/en-us/student/office-in-educatio…

Just contacted Apple the studios headphones you need to pay additional $50

      • I know. The website tells you that.

The studio3 and studio3 Skyline collection are $50 more. I was happy to pay it in case I wanted to keep them.

  • Seems the price at Officeworks for the new 256GB model rose to $1997.00 since yesterday.
I think this makes it 3.6% cheaper than buying from Apple (with Edu pricing) but no Beats headphones, thus making the current Apple deal by far the best.

  • Hey guys and gals,

Don’t forget cashrewards offer 1.4% cash back too on Apple education site.

Just picked up the MBP13 and should net around $30-40 depending how Apple does the invoicing with the headphones etc.

    Cheers
