  • I tried but… I'm (WA) not eligible for that campaign. :(

OP, you might want to mention that the discount is on usage only.

      done, thanks

    What are their rates?
Discount % is meaningless if you don't know the rates.

    • The rates are in the Fact Sheets.
There are a lot of variations so not practicable to put in the post.

The rates are available but I agree that it is not the discount that matters in terms of it being a bargain, it's the price after discount.

  • +1

    Daily supply charge: 92.40 cents/day
    General usage rates: 32.27 cents/kWh

So ~22.5c per unit after discount.

  • Ausgrid TOU rates after discount (inc GST)

    peak $0.422 per kWh
    offpeak $0.116 per kWh
    shoulder$0.177 per kWh
    daily supply charge $1.056

    • heh most of NSW aren't TOU, its so dodgy….

Those rates are actually better than most I've seen…. but unless you're able to allocate a significant portion to off peak, you'll be paying substantially more

For the change in behaviour you should be saving a lot, but in most cases a 50% change in behaviour will be have you save anything.

  • Deal showing up on Energy Made Easy website. To find it though, I had to go to All Plans (Elec), then click View Offers and add the OBS group buying option.

Note. after ticking all the offer options, Energy Australia the best, but I'm already with them so couldn't get the bonus. Signed up to Alinta thanks OP!

Good deal (for me anyway). I'm with Endeavour distribution in NSW and comparing to my current expiring Origin Energy deal this is even better. Good thing is that this is a 24month deal rather than Origins 12months.

Called Origin and asked if they could match but they didn't seem interested in keeping my business. Oh well, bye bye Origin.

    • Change, they'll give you a call to get you back.

Just recently my brother called and was allowed to recontract his 26% off from last year.

I had 25% off Origin, I hate talking to people, but I couldn't find a good online Origin deal to recontract. So I applied for another company… 5 days later within the cooling off period, they called and got me 31%

      • just curious how many days left on the cooling off period did they call you and offer 31% off?

        thanks

        • a few days, no big deal. I just called Energy Australia and got them to cancel it.

The Origin and Energy Australia guy who tried to convince me to stay… did get into a spiel about how they're competing with each other. Was surprised by the info they gave me, maybe to appear more personally friendly.

Just googled, EA currently has a 26% off,

I've never heard of above 31% before.

Until this year the highest was 25%.

% matters a lot in NSW/Sydney market because the primary/main plans unit price don't vary that much between retailers. Usually its just 1-2cents, which equates to around 3.7% for each cent. Depending on the price.

Most of the fact sheets I notice now has a after discount unit price, so everyone can focus on that now.

for States like Victora, who deregulated earlier and were given free reign… they're fked… I think NSW retailer were warned not to be cowboys like the other States.

    • I went through that crap before with both Origin and Energy Aus. The regular sales team have no power to offer more than the advertised rates, only the retention team can give up the big discounts. And how do you get to the retention team? By actually switching!

  • In WA they have a 35% off online only offer:

Edit: (oops - sorry, that's for gas only)

  • I'm waiting for the day a provider gives 80% discount for (jacked up) usage rates. I'm sure a lot of unassuming people would get caught out in that.

My provider tango gives 0% discount and I believe it's hard to find anything lower…

    • yep, no gimmicks or other BS.

Now if they have a rewards program that offers 5% off Coles-Myer cards, then I might be interested.

    Avoid Alinta energy
I pay $1 a day for AGL including GST in QLD
25.5c per kw/h single rate and then 28% of this rate for usage
    Worked out better off staying

Alinta hits your credit file hard too and causes scores to drop
I’ll stick with AGL for now thanks

  • Currently with Origin 28% discount for 12 months in NSW which expires in early Feb.
can I switch before Feb? Or have to wait til after the 12 months?
Is this better? What the the rate here?

    • look at your original contract, virtually every contract I've seen says no exit fee.

The only ones I've seen with exit fees are the weird specialty ones, or 24mth ones.

If you have time to waste, you could transfer every 3mths and collect those hey have $50 free deals

28% is good, try calling and ask if they will extend it for another year as per previous contract conditions, and to send you the new contract. My mate did just that the other day with 26%…. he might of gotten more by trying to churn and getting a call, but didnt want the hassle

  • Interesting article about predicted future price drops.
    https://www.smh.com.au/business/consumer-affairs/electricity…

Seems the next couple of years is not the best time to lock into contracts

  • This one has expired. Are they releasing a new deal soon?
