    Still paying the G-Sync tax?
Won't be required for much longer.

    • Why is that? I have GTX1060 6gb and was thinking of getting a GSync monitor. What do you recommend?

      • +3

Nvidia have announced they're going to support Freesync monitors.

        • +3
          • some (not all) Freesync monitors

Considering they've tested 400 monitors and only passed 12 of them it doesn't give me confidence a majority will be supported.

          • @11112007: Confirmed compatible, and enabled by default. They also mentioned that you would be able to manually enable the option on all FreeSync monitors.

        • +2

12 out of 400 monitors have been confirmed to be compatible. Don't buy any monitors till we know how GSync on FreeSync monitors perform through benchmarks.

          • @Carrian: i say 'we' because I almost splurged on one.

          • @Carrian: Thats just for plug and play support. My understanding is that you can just manually enable it for other monitors.

            @Carrian: https://www.techpowerup.com/251237/nvidia-g-sync-now-support…

Update: We received word from NVIDIA that you can manually enable G-SYNC on all Adaptive-Sync monitors, even non-certified ones: "For gamers who have monitors that we have not yet tested, or that have failed validation, we'll give you an option to manually enable VRR, too."

            • +1

@Cobalt_: I'm hoping it'll go without fault for most monitors/most unvalidated monitors. There's still no point buying a G Sync or FreeSync monitor till we know the benchmarks. If all goes well, demand for G Sync monitors will decrease and so will price.

        • This is amazing news that I had no idea about!

        • I just hope that all the Freesync monitors don't get jacked up in price!

          • @AL008: Should be the other way, gsync monitors should fall in price! (I wish…)

        • They actually announced it last year. It was hard to get people to believe it even when linking to a quote source.
It had really not become all that necessary since nvidia and AMD added their respective "enhanced" sync settings which seem to remove all tearing anyway.

  • Apparently the quality control(at least up to the end of last year anyway) is not very good, and users wanting a good monitor should be prepared to do returns. So might be worthwhile buying from a store you can get to for the exchange, so you are not stuck with a premium monitor that is not so premium. A few Ozbargainer's gave up after a few swaps and got their money back.

    • I recently bought mine for 1079 from FutuOnline, But mine seems to be pretty good quality. Its been great so far

I'm one of them (that gave up and got a refund after 2 exchanges). One was crooked on the stand and had major yellow bleed in the corners, the other less bleed and straightly aligned but has a yellow tinge on one half of the monitor. Bloody ludicrous for that price.
