  • Is this the best use of my points?

    • +11

God no. Transfer them to Singapore Airlines before mid April (50% deval coming) and redeem for business reward flights.

      • I agree with said statement

      • What’s 50% deval? Devaluation?

        • +1

Yes come mid April Amex will be devaluing all of their FF transfer by 50%

      • How come Singapore Airlines in particular?

        • Redemption rates/fees, but more importantly Biz/First availability compared to every other premium airline that Amex partners with. Ever tried to find a business seat on Qantas let alone stomach the horrendous carrier charges they hit you with?

          • @JoeyJoeJoe: Whats the best booking engine for finding SQ availability across a couple of months. Looking to get to NZ (CHC/ZQN somewhere in snow season July / Oct). I think Eco is 25k return / 30k with Virgin codeshare? (ADL/ MEL/SYD). Never found availability from ADL yet though :(

  • So I’ve got roughly 150,000 points with my Amex. What’s the best way to spend it? Serious question.

Redeem for business flight to asia

As pointed out by many other ozbargainers, points per dollar is almost always best on flights, particularly non-economy ones.
But if that's not your thing, with this deal, $ ~1280 worth of Whisky is not bad (up from $ ~1115).
Or.. Groceries, since Woolies is in this deal as well.

Another option is $1000 of credit: https://catalogue.membershiprewards.com.au/award/American-Ex….
Horrible conversion rate, but it's as close and flexible as cash as you can get.

    • I have a second card for Qantas earning, only. Use my AmEx points to transfer to SPG/Marriott rewards. If I wasn't One World monogamous, I would also suggest Singapore if you don't have loyalty to a particular program.

Worth noting that buying discounted gift cards via cashrewards works for this offer, so save 5% on gift card value then claim bonus 15% redemption. Good for those not planning bus class travel

    • Thanks for sharing, will try now.

  • What does this work out to be per $1? 105 points or 117?
