  • Ok price but the clamps look like they'd chafe.

  • +1

I'd trust these ones more than the SCA ones.

  • Surge protection, against improper polarity? So, polarity protection…

    Great. Decent brand, good price

    • No, the surge protection isn't there for reverse polarity.
It's there for when you get an inrush of current when connecting or disconnecting the leads.

      • 'Surge protected against being connected incorrectly'

        From the blurb.

Weird hey? I've never heard of polarity protection on jump leads either. Decent heavy cables though, reckon these are worth it.

        • If you don't believe me hook them up and try it.
These definitely don't have reverse polarity protection!!!

  • Everyone, "surge protection" on jumper cables is marketing bulldust. The ferrite bead they clamp around the cable does effectively nothing, except inflate the price.

Just to illustrate how silly the concept of surge protection on a jumper cable is, if 400A isn't a surge, what is?

Also know that the "xxx Amp" rating on the vast majority of cables is bogus. If you want to know if the cables are good, pull back the rubber grip on one of the handles, and look at the diameter of the copper wire. For 400A continuous, you would want a copper diameter of AT LEAST 5mm. Most jumper cables look like they have thick leads, but the cheap ones often have a thin wire with very thick insulation.

That said, if your battery is flat because you left your headlights on, even a crappy jumper cable will get you out of trouble. You just need to leave your battery charging for about ten minutes, that will usually give enough energy to start your car. But if your battery has a collapsed cell, or has gone high-impedance, that's when you need proper heavy-duty jumper cables.
