I'm surprised to see how much Huawei has grown, I used to see them as some off brand, the cheaper alternative. But to sell phones at 1.2k they must be doing something right haha.

      • -7

Their CFO has been accused of fraud

        • -1

That's wrong, he's talking about something right.

      • didn't they produce a google nexus way back?

    • +1

Considering how much people use them every single day, it's not that crazy. You wouldn't be shocked if someone spent a grand on a laptop or a TV.

Personally, I'm in the $300 range mostly so I can skip a bulky protective case without drop-paranoia.

      • +2

If there is a device that has the size of a phone, battery that last all day, can do laptop computing, even just office tasks, camera that can replace basic dslr.

I would pay $3000, I think it is worth it.

    • +12

Well why don't you please post where you can get 2~3 years free phone call & data… People here aren't idiots. It's almost always better value in the long run to buy a phone outright and go on a cheap sim-only plan with someone like Kogan.

      • +1

Leopan has some point. This phone is $74 for 30gb at optus, plus free airbuds. Leaving about $15pm of plan.

Optus is single sim though, and if you exit early there is a huge penalty.

        • +1

Yeah I hear you. For me, after just finishing the second of two 24-month contracts, I find it's too long to be restricted to a contract when technology is advancing so rapidly. Even 1 year is significantly more reasonable given that at least in the second year you are almost guaranteed to be able to get yourself on a cheaper sim-only plan providing the exact same services.

          • @djthornton: I would love a 12 or 18 Months plan. 36 months is ridiculous.

I can't commit on Optus plan, despite my calculation simply because I fear that s10+ would be much better.

        • Also Optus are currently 2 months behind with Mate 20 Pro updates. If you want the latest fixes/features you have to either buy outright or use FunkyHuawei (~$20 per update).

          • @Ryballs: What update? Software update comes from Huawei right?

            • @[Deactivated]: Yeah the update still comes from Huawei but unlike outright phones, phones bought on plan need to wait for their carrier to provide Huawei with branded firmware. It's bloody annoying.

              • @Ryballs: This is news to me, but it make sense, because my Optus S8 also has Optus logo at the boot, and unremovable Optus app.

                1-0 for outright phones then.

    • Because people might not need the connection because their work pays for the sim

    • Buying outright + any sim card deal on ozbargain is much better value (better return than deposit the whole money with interest for the 2-3 years and taking mobile plan). But have to admit that there is also few mobile plan deals which come up with good value from time to time.

      • +3

        ^^this

That's why I always buy my phone outright. However, alot of my friends and colleagues rather pay $70 pm because they don't have a spare $1.3k lying around because they splash it all on avocado on toast on the weekends or any meals that is Instagram worthy.

    • cos you can't get dual sim phones from carriers maybe?

  • Does anyone have any experience with this store? I might pick up the Note 9 for $1230 - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Au-Stock-Samsung-Galaxy-Note-9-S… - seems like a very good deal.

    • +2

Bought couple phones from Mobileciti and Allphones. They shipped quickly and provided gst tax invoice. Happy with them so far. Have not try to claim warranty or anything yet…

      • Cheers. For the $200 difference (with education discount at Samsung atm) I might stick with Samsung for warranty purposes but I'll take a day to think about it.

    • +3

      Hi djthornton,

Thank you for your interest. You can trust Allphones, please feel free to check out our eBay feedback (currently 100% positive). Allphones only sells Australian stock with local Manufacturers warranty, so the Note 9 is an Australian stock with 24 months Samsung AU warranty. If you have any other concerns, please do not hesistant to contact me.

      • +1

Thanks lyl, really appreciate the info! Still deciding whether or not to pull the trigger on this note 9!

      • Hi may I ask is that allphones and mobileciti they are same company? If I purchase mate 20 pro from allphones ebay store, can I claim the Gt watch? Because on HUAWEI website shows only participating retailer can claim but not include allphones.

  • +1

Probably worth while to wait on the new Samsung device coming out given the price tag here, heard rumors that the screen doesn't have the top bitten off as seems to be the trend with all phones at the moment.

Other than that, phone itself is a great phone.

    • +2

      Speculation only, no proof.

      • +6

Unfortunately, people believe speculation without proof.

I'll happily continue buying Huawei phones and keep recommending them because they're just that good.

    • +1

      Thanks Trump…

    • +3

Any android phone have a free backdoor for spy agencies called google play services. There is already plenty of proof of this.

    • -4

You are 100% right. These are Chinese spyware.

  • +10

This phone is a beast! Switched from iPhone to this..The camera is outta control!

    • +1

4k recording is a bit weird tho, the AI interferes too much and causes glitches / artifacts in the video for a colorful scene

      https://youtu.be/EuwksRQGjwI?t=370

      • agreed..but I do more photos than videos…i think most people take more photos nowadays anyway.

  • +4

People are complaining about $1200 for a phone, when the biggest issue is that It's $1200 for a Huawei.

    • -6

This phone should be under $800. You are paying Huawei not Apple.

This is a blunt rip off to aussies. This phone is under 1k overseas

      • This phone is under 1k overseas

Where? Checked a few Indonesian online stores and its $1100+

        • Around Rm2100 in Malaysia

        • Try buying in China

          • +1

@neonlight: Without checking he's either lying or it's probably the other models.

Edit: it's actually cheaper in China and u get the 8gb version which is only available in China. In saying this, its out of stock everywhere and you need to pay a premium to get the phone.

    • +2

It's one of the best android phones you can get right now (some may even argue the best).
May or may not be the best value phone for some people, but the price is in line with other android flagships with similar features/performance.

Their low end-mid range stuff is pretty crappy. But Huawei high end is quite good.

      • -3

Best until you get green screen and spy on you from Chinese government. Multiple countries not trusting Huawei not sure why it's costing that much

  • How are updates handled for phones not bought through a carrier? Are they direct from Huawei? I've got the Mate 10 Pro (Optus branded) and the glacial pace of updates is the only real negative. Not Huawei's fault obviously, but if there's a way around it eg buying direct or through a reseller not affiliated with a carrier then I know to skip buying through a carrier next time around.

    • +1

Straight from Huawei for outright models. My Mate 10 Pro dual SIM has a software update (including security patches) at least once every two months, sometimes two.

      • Excellent. Thanks for that!

    • +1

Pretty quick actually, got one from Amazon and the update was fairly quick.
Replaced my Note9 with this phone and this is much better than note 9 in every aspect, usability, got smaller hands so much better to handle. Battery life is much better, can go for 24 hours on a single charge, this wasn't possible with the Note9, camera is much better than Note9 and I am amazed at the photo quality that comes out of this phone.
All around apps are very zippy and fairly fast access to settings and apps.

      • +1

You must be a super heavy user.
This is 2days phone for most ppl.

      • Do you miss the pen

        • +1

Not at all, didn't really use the pen. It is a good song gimmick though.

    • To be honest, phones bought outright are far better at issuing updates as there's one less channel to go through.

My girlfriend's outright-bought Mate 9 is still getting monthly updates whilst my Optus Mate 20 pro has received one.

  • -8

$1200 so the commies can know my every little secret… why???
Is that how much they are going to pay me to use this thing? I can get an Samsung S9 for that and it comes from the non-communist side of Korea.

    • -1

Love all the downvotes from the Commie lovers.

  • -1

Isn't this the phone brand where the top execs are all getting arrested for spying for Chinese? Yeah, no thanks.

  • -6

$1200 for a China spyware phone hahaha

  • this or oneplus 6t??

    • +1

Neither. Get a Samsung s10. That's probably gonna be the phone of the decade.

      • +2

        Samsung is dying.
You are jumping on the sinking boat.

        • Nah…

          • +2

            @conservative: It is.
In a lot of European and Asian countries. Huawei and Xiaomi are taking over Samsung.
Only in five eyes countries,Samsung still keeps its lead.

    • +1

6t for oxygen OS. Smooth as silk beats even Samsung Huawei and Apple latest XR OS

      • I think for an average user, you can't tell much diff..Had the mate 20 pro since launch, can't notice any lags..maybe time will tell

    • +1

if you're looking for a great camera with amazing battery life go with this, if you care about a smooth and friendly os that gets updated frequently go with oneplus

      • Not really, my oneplus 5t didn't get the upgrade to Android Pie yet.

  • which color would most people prefer with this phone?
