  • Thanks Teninchdk

Great way to add wireless connectivity to my ancient PC

Bought one of these before - They work out of box with default Windows drivers though they do come with a CD containing drivers.

Works fine for what they are although they are pretty slow far away from modem; ethernet will generally be a lot better.

    • Which Windows? I put one of these (well, something like it anyway presumably the same basic chip) on my Win 7 HTPC and it couldn't find drivers for it by default or on Windows Update.

I might not bother with it for that computer specifically though given it's a bit far from the router and not like there's room for an antenna in that small package.

From experience OOTB works with Windows 10. Pretty sure Windows 7 requires the driver to be installed off the included CD.

        • Yeah fair enough. What's the name of the driver on the CD? I'll Google it up to download them at least to have on-hand for next time.

@dufflover: I've checked the CD and there doesn't appear to be a definitive answer on that. Ended up being a bit of a mission, but I located this driver, installed it, and it appears to work fine.

Apparently these work with Rasberry PI as well for those interested.

  • Does it include Bluetooth? I've seen some of these that do both, I'm guessing this isn't one of them though…
