How to Study the Bible Boot Camp
This course provides you four basic skills to improve your approach to bible study. C Michael Patton follows the authorial intent hermeneutic. This basically means that we want to understand the text as the original audience understood the text. There is a three step process to understanding the Scripture: 1. What did the text mean in ancient times, 2. what does the text mean for all time, 3. how does the text apply to us.

The Interpretive Process
Bridging the Historical Gap
Bridging the Literary Gap
Bridging the Contextual Gap

@gto21: You really share some scary stuff don't you?

Maybe instead of sharing products by people that actually think homosexuality is a disease and can be cured, you should try and be a nicer person.

          It wasn’t a commandment
          But a useful suggestion!

This is how theists train their followers to win arguments against agnostics and atheists to incite rifts between otherwise decent people whether believer or nonbeliever. I'm sure this text will also train the theist how to shift logical fallacies like burden of proof to the non believer.

I'm glad to live in a time with enough connectivity to enable children being brainwashed with this rubbish to inquisitively do their own research and see religion for what it really is, and to watch religion die a slow and painful death by a thousand cuts.

The entire business of religion is really pathetic. The poster should be ashamed of him/herself for ignoring facts and evidence. People pushing this crap are no different to anti-vax'ers.

      Amen to that

I thought critically about the claim that there was an omnipotent invisible sky fairy when I was 6.

LOL. You know "Critical Thinking" and "Christianity" are total opposites right? You can't be any more hypocritical than this load of Do-do.

Another amazing post from gto21, sharing material that advises that homosexuality can be cured via therapy.

Forget that people can ignore stuff from Credo Courses by way of blocking it, but this garbage should actively be banned from OzBargain. Can you imagine if I uploaded a course advising that people should try and therapise straight Christians to become gay, and that it was a divinely inspired commandment?

    Absolute garbage.

    • +1

if someone wants to try therapy, more power to them don't you think? Obviously people shouldn't be forced into something like that. And no one is forced (as a general rule i suppose) into believing in a religion so again it isn't something forced. I mean if people are free to get surgeries to change gender stuff, why shouldn't they be free to do other things like therapy for a desire they may not want.

Can you imagine if I uploaded a course advising that people should try and therapise straight Christians to become gay, and that it was a divinely inspired commandment?

      Can you imagine if:
      1. There was an all powerful and loving God who created and sustains the universe and everything in it and that he made people to look after and enjoy the world under him?
      2. He didn't make us robots, programmed to do his will, but gave us free will to love him back, just as he loves us, but that all humans rejected him?
      3. That the consequences of our rejection of his rule and our choice not to reciprocate his love for us is for him to reject us also ('justice'), which leaves us disconnected from our sustainer ('death')?
      4. Because God loves us so much, He sent Jesus, who was always in right relationship with God to take the punishment that we deserve (so that justice could be achieved) while also giving us another chance ('forgiveness').
      5. That God then raised Jesus back to life and appointed him ruler and judge of the world, so that if we submit to Jesus we are given new life and forgiveness, or to continue to reject God and Jesus and remain under judgement

Imagine if God leaves this choice up to each one of us?

I find it ironic that a course on critical thinking is published by a company called Credo House.

Credo — A statement of the beliefs or aims which guide someone's actions.
Belief — An acceptance that something exists or is true, especially one without proof.
Critical Thinking — The objective analysis and evaluation of an issue in order to form a judgement.
