  • Are these akin (in terms of filling quantity) to a 6 inch or a footlong sub?

    • +1

I always have a wrap, each one is equivalent to a 6 inch sub

      • +1

When you say it in inches, it sounds bigger.

      • +11

Oh only a 6 inch? $12 for two six inch subs doesn't really seem that good value…

        • +6

Yeah I agree, thought they were footlong. Didn't they use to be $5 anyways?

  • Not Heatherbrae store apparently will mention it to Manager. Always the way with Crapsub

  • +9

any 2 for 8 sounds right. not 12…

    • +4

i remember it was 2 for $10 the last few times they ran the same promo :(

    • +3

My old neighbour used to own one, he told me at the price of $8 for 2, he barely makes 50c on each once you fact in the labour and all the other costs.

So bare a thought for the people who are forced to do these deals due to the franchise model. Same goes with Dominos.

      • +4

        OK then, I'll buy 4.

        • +1

Could make 10 for that price.

          • +2

@viology: No you couldn't if you factor in labour, rent and electricity.

            • @El Grande: Its difficult to measure labor costs because you are paying by hour, not per sandwich/wrap made. So lets say you pay someone $15 per hour or whatever the min wage is for the typical highschooler, it only takes a few mins to make a wrap (they make it infront of you, so it obviously doesnt take that long), but realistically speaking, they are not going to be making wraps 100% of the time, theres peak periods and off-peak periods.

Rent/electricity are also fixed costs and vary based on location of the store, so the real profit margin on a wrap heavily depends on how many wraps you can sell. If your store is only selling one wrap per month, then yea, its pretty unprofitable due to the fixed cost.

But generally when you look at profit margins, you look at the variable cost mainly and average out the fixed cost.

So whats the variable cost of the wrap, which I suppose would be the cost of the ingredients? That would give a better idea of how much they cost for a subway store.

      • Thats weird, then how do they make money from selling a foot long for $8? I mean, two wraps are roughly equal to a footlong?

  • Love me a melt. How big is a wrap compared to a sub? This deal has me pretty hungry because I'm all fired up for a foot long melt

  • Whats the regular price?

    • +5

Used to be 2 for $10

    • They're usually the same price as the 6in sub

  • +10

Since they got rid of the sub of the day and jacked up prices on some subs this year I have no inclination to go to Subway.

    Was good while it lasted..

    • OMG, Sub of the Day is gone?

      • Nope, it’s still around

    • +2

It's still around. All stores are just told not to advertise it. If you ask what sub is the sub of the day, they'll tell you.

      • That sounds really dumb.

  • +7

No. Bring back the old english cheese, pickles and proper shredded lettuce (instead of the huge chunky pieces) and I'll consider stepping inside a subway again.

    • +6

agree the huge chucky pieces are dumb, so many iceberg stems

    • They still had pickles when I last ate subway a couple of weeks ago. Definitely agree on the cheese and lettuce though!

  • No. Bring back Seafood sensation, Swiss cheese and thousand island dressing and I'll consider stepping inside a subway again.

  • +2

Up until about a month ago it used to be 2 for $10

No benefit to the increase in price. Just a pure price increase. I don't support this

    • -3

Maybe in your state/suburb, But I have not seen 2 wraps for a 10er in ages. 2 for 12 is not great, But its better than what ever the 6 inch sub of it you get is. (A wrap is the same price as a 6 inch sub of what you get)

    • +1

Maybe it hasn't been posted for a while but the last 2 for $10 offer I found on Ozbargain was back in September 2016.

  • +6

I’m going to have to neg this deal too. 20% price increase compared to previous offers. Subway just seems to keep getting more and more expensive. Bring back the $5 six inch and drink deal and the discounts from the subway fresh club, used to be great, then they stopped. A lot of independent bakeries have equivalent products for the same price of cheaper.

    • +2

Agreed. These 'offers' are getting worse and worse. Better off with the $5 sub of the day. Sure you don't get to pick, but it's cheaper and you aren't forced to buy two.

  • +1

    Subway.
I went 2 years ago for the birthday deal, they gave me 6inch of anything on the menu (i got some slow roasted lamb thing with their new sauce) and 600ml coke
Go last year and they changed owners, got limited to a regular sub and a 300ml coke and never went back again
Oh btw the chicken is mostly soy and I'm still confused as to where the "eat fresh" slogan applies to any of their "food"

    • +1

I'm still confused as to where the "eat fresh" slogan applies to any of their "food"

They take it fresh out of the freezer each day.

  • -1

Better value to get 2 sub of the day 6 inch for $10 or footlong for $8.

    • +1

Guess you haven't been to Subway in a while?

      • Why’s that?

        • -2

Sub of the day is gone and the cheapest footlong is $9.50.

          • @ssquid: It’s not gone.

          • @ssquid: No it's not…. You just have to ask which sub of the day it is. They just don't advertise it anymoee. Guess you haven't taking initiative in a while?

            • -1

@Frayin: With their jacked prices for lower quality ingredients I've stopped going there completely.

              • @ssquid:

With their jacked prices for lower quality ingredients I've stopped going there completely.

And yet you started this dialogue by assuming I hadn't been there in a while? You don't go there so you might as well stop commenting on it. You are also incorrect in your declaration that sub of the day is gone.

  • +2

$12 for a footlong. I’ll end up going to subway for the Birthday deal only.

  • Not a bad deal. Shame it isn't $10 though

  • +3

As noted by many others, whose favourite sub ingredients have vanished, Subway has gone to hell in the last 12-18 months or so. It started with the bread varieties. People accepted that begrudingly. Now it's cheese and sauce. The ingredients are less fresh and the prices keep going up. What they use to offer was a reasonable substitute for what you could make if you had the time. Now it's a crappy sandwich at ever more inflated prices. I miss the days of multigrain bread, Old English or Swiss cheese, and trying the various sauces. What they serve now doesn't even compare. Next they'll be wondering why business is drying up and various franchises will start closing. RIP Subway.

    • Yeah I don't think they will be around for long. I am craving the subway of old. I hate the new lettuce. It's all the white stuff and none of the leafs. There is also a lot less of it. The bread is smaller. No Multigrain.

    • They are in a tough spot.

Consider it from their point of view too:
      * Wages are non-negotiable and through the roof ($50+ an hour for an adult on a Sunday + super is additional + book keeping + accounting etc)
      * Rents are through the roof (it's probably double or triple or quadruple what you think it should be)
      * No flex on where they buy ingredients
      * Sky high maintenance and unpredictable tradies fees
      * Then Franchise fees (7% to 12%? of sales)
      * Then the tax man's cut if they do make a profit (+ the usual 10% GST goes to the ATO) (+ the accounting fees kick in again)
      * Etc etc etc…

That's after they pay $200,000 - $500,0000 for the privilege of having a franchise, which they are never going to recoup

That's a preview of the costs. And on the other side… nobody wants to pay $12 for a sandwich. (myself included) lol

I don't blame you if you think it isn't your problem, just saying there is another side to it.

      • Yet somehow my small country town (~30k people) has three subway stores, all owned by the same franchisee.

      • Wages are through the roof? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! Have you done any reading at all? Wages in this country have been stagnant. Full time employment is down.
Rent prices are an issue…for everyone.
Their ingredients purchasing is controlled by the parent company.
Maintenance is predictable if you know how to run a business.
Franchise fees is their own structure.
        Everyone pays tax.

Sure running a business is hard but there are other franchises that aren't turning their product into undesirable sewerage so I think it's safe to say Subway as a company is doing something very wrong.

  • Tried this at Lonsdale and Exhibition St Subway in Melbourne CBD. Didn't work. Also if you follow through the link it doesn't load on the subway website

  • +2

    This is not a deal.

It was $10 and always available, they just never advertised it. So the price has actually gone up 20%.

What a shocker of a deal to post.

    • The 2 for $10 wraps deal officially finished more than 12 months ago. Some Subway stores continued to offer this deal, but at the discretion of the franchisee.

  • If you are only a wrap eater then this is a great deal. Yes at some stage it was 2 for $10 although the new 2 for $12 is still ok. My daughter and I only eat wraps hence we rarely get a deal as the footlong doesn't include wraps. I have found the quality of the wrap depends on the sandwich artist. There are stores i will go to and others i don't bother with. Generally I have found the stand alone stores outside of large gas stations in SA are better.

  • +1

Tried these last week. Extremely disappointed. You are better off going for a 6 inch sub (or a single footlong).
