        • Where did you buy from? How were the sales people when you tried to return it? Any difficulties?

          • +1

@Sammyboy: JBHiFi, sales guys were nice about it as they knew it was an issue. At the second swap the staff manager said to change to a diff device as they are all plagued with the issue. I tried a third time before I gave up and got a refund.

Honestly a Nokia 6.1 is better built then the LG V30+.

Not only does it bleed light it accumulates dust all around under the edges of the screen.. Great phone but flawed massively with the bleed and dust. Check whirlpool for this common issue.

For the money it is now I would ignore those issues and slap a rugged case and get over it and accept it but if you run the phone naked/skin and are anal you will dislike it.

  • -5

I could not find the deal price on the JB website. The capture image lack of the date applied on the catalogue, it much be not able to show the local retailer (Harvey Norman) to get matching prucice. Please update the images

    • +10

It says in 6 days Fool

  • +2

    wait for Amazon price matching

    • Yeah the issue is for Huawei P20 pro still haven't been delivered for me. I have doubts on their stock system

  • y in 6 days?

    • The new catalogue deals don't start untill Thursday 31st, that's why.

      • makes sense

  • Huawei mate 9 pro vs this? Actually I think I have the mate 9 non pro as fingerprint scanner on back. Speaking of unlocking phone it's pretty much instantaneous using either face or finger in my mate 9. Does anyone have real world experience with v30?

    • I have had a v30 as my phonefor the last 8 months or so.
Unlocking with FP is fast and reliable. I havent tried face unlock.
Mate 9 wider (16:9 screen) and heavier than v30. Havent tried the Mate 9 pro.

  • +1

is it safe to venture into the bootloop mine field that is LG?

    • +1

Yeah, they resolved the problem with the 2014/2015 models and have been all good since. LG offer excellent quality and specs for the low price (their phones always drop to sub $500 6-12 months in.

      • -2

Not true. My late 2016 LG went into a bootloop not so long ago - is now a brick.
It's the second LG I've had which has done this.

      • -1

In 14/15 it was definitely NOT resolved. They said it was, but it wasn't.
Fast forward to a 2017 model, I'm not sure. I'd like to know.

        • +1

For clarity, I was saying it was those models that had the problem, which has since been resolved.

All phones can bootloop, that doesn't mean it's a widespread manufacturing friend like those models had.

          • @xdirex: Dude, just according to comments in this thread, G7's started bootlooping again after an update.

            That's newer than 2014/15.

  • I have an LG G6 that is still going strong… Battery life could be better though. Convince me I don't need this?!

    • +1

If great battery life is of importance to you, you're better off looking beyond LG.

      • +2

The v30 battery life is insane!! You actually don't know what you're talking about. Look up the battery contests on YouTube, the v30 is using some kind of magic.

    • I can't!

    • I'de do it

  • I think i'll get this.

Why do people put such an emphasis on these updates?

I have had androids since 2013 and never had updates and the phones still worked.

Better screen than the Poco. Australian delivered and warranty.

Since I have 2 x HTC 10 Evo's sitting in a draw that are only 4 months old from E global, i won't take the risk anymore with overseas purchases.

  • Wireless charging and DAC?

  • +2

I have an LG G6, I would not be buying another LG phone. Soooo many dramas.

    • +2

Agreed. My LG G6 was mostly downgrade from my previous S6.
I recently "side" graded to the S8.. and jesus the S8 is so much better.
Significantly less lag, better camera, the headphone jack doesn't crackle..

      There's a reason they depreciate so quickly - and it's because they're ****!
      LG.. never again.

      • Yep.

        • I had the glass around the lens break (had to pay $100 to replace it and it never broke again so it comes with dodgy glass),

        • the SIM tray broke when I was changing from a japanese sim back to aussie and damaged the memory card slot when it broke (LG support told me to just deal with it as it would cost too much to fix),

        • headphone jack crackles like a mofo when I plug my speakers into the phone,

        • can't use some chargers as it detects moisture for some stupid reason (some people this gets so bad it bricks the phone)

        • I used to think the camera was good, but my wife just got an S9+ and holy moly big difference (I know it is a newer gen but not that much newer..)

        • battery life is pretty ordinary

        • similar
just migrated from G6 to huawei p20 pro deal
Battery on G6 was getting terrible and the camera never seemed to be as good as it should have been
Also had stupid bluetooth drop outs in the car when making calls
          and very slow updates

  • +1

Do people consider resale value? I have a 1.5 yr old v20 I bought for 420, wonder if I can sell it on gumtree. Samsung and Apple have much bigger second hand market

    • You can still sell the V20 for $150 and pick this up and still be ahead I reckon. Sure Apples and Samsung hold their value better but then you're paying a higher price when getting them anyway. Note 5 (not the 6) was what $600 when you got the V20? And they prob go for $250 second-second hand now? Lower price for a newer near same spec item, LG delivers in this way.

    • +1

I have 20 phones and none ar viable to sell secondhand. They all have broken in some way or another.

  • +1

    Amazing price op!
Love my note 9 but sadly its' two cameras don't compare to my ozb2015 scratched up single lens LG g4.
Reading the v30± camera being the same as the pixel 2 has me jealous.

    • really? you think the G4 cam is better than the note 9?

      • +3

Yep, sadly. Perhaps I haven't learnt to wield the note 9 correctly. But I feel like the low light performance the note 9 sucks. Grainy. Not as sharp as my g4 was. I never worried once about grain on my g4.

      • +1

G4 had a remarkable large len. It does take better pictures than s6 and s7.

I say on par with s8 but no way better than s9

G4 camera surprisingly better than G6 as well both front and back. Only thing if it's slower

From what read G4 front camera is better than the rubbish one on LG v30

    • +1

Not sure where you read this…. But the pixel 2 camera is significantly better than the v30.

  • Does LG normally update the software every half a year for example or from android 8 to 9 in the future?

For LG v30+ owner, which android version do you currently have in the phone?
Currently in LG website shows v7.1.2

    Thanks for sharing.

    • +2

i never received any updates on my G4 - was still on android 6

LG are notoriously slow on updates

      • Sometimes I wonder if their update centre is just a mouse running around in a wheel.

    • The V30+ should end up on pie…

I got a G6 December 2017 on androids 7. Q3 2018 it got oreo then December 2018 it got November security (was on July from the Oreo update). So one every 6 months for like 1.5 years with one major update. I would be shocked if they didn't give it pie but really that's what LG is known for so maybe I'm being too optimistic. Another note is LG seems to leave Australia behind as the V30+ is already on Oreo… Most other places had G6 on Oreo 2-3 months before I got it.

    • It's on version 8.0

    • I have the Au V30+ (H930DS) from JB, they will be running Android 7.1 out of the box and will OTA update to 8.0 with Aug 2018 security patch.
According to LG, the v30+ will get Android 9 around the end of June 2019.
LineageOS and a few other Android 9 firmwares are available on xda but will need you to unlock the bootloader.

      • Thank you all

        • The bootloader can be easily unlocked on early Oreo firmwares, LG patched the ability to unlock it in the current firmware version.

      • Hey mate, do you have this phone on Lineage OS? Just wondering if LOS roms out there support this specific Au model.

Are you able to link the xda forum link with the downloads you used? There are a few versions on there.

        • +1

I am running stock firmware with some mods. Lineage should be no problem butI haven't given it a go yet

        • It has been a while since I did this, but I successfully unlocked the bootloader from the AU 20b firmware which upgraded over the air from Nougat. The kdz firmware file matching this would be H930DS20b_00_OPEN_AU_DS_OP_0530.kdz

The xda WTF unlocking thread says to get kdz firmware from https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-h930ds-firmwares/#tab=firmwares

however I would recommend you stick with the xda thread rather than me trying to rehash it all here and probably get something wrong.

          • @[Deactivated]: Thanks pete. Have downloaded all the necessary files and ready to give it a shot as soon as I pick up the phone. Goodbye Google!

    • My lg G5 is on Oreo.

  • +9

Mah boot loopin baby's drivin me crazy

    • +6

My obsession for a Samsung, Galaxy Note 8

      • +6

Oreo Oreo, give me updates from head to toe

  • +1

its 469 dollars on ebay now. 835 processor is a let down

    • This seller is currently away until 19 Feb, 2019. If you make a purchase, there may be a delay in processing your order.

      A long time away.

    • Looks like US998 model which is US version so no local warranty or band28 for those that need it.

  • Tempted, would look at this LG V line again as my V20 experience has been positive and it's still going strong. At this price it's great value for a name brand item, that is considerably cheaper than Samsung and Apple who trade well on their brand poshness value.

  • This or the Huawei Mate Pro?

    • +1

You can buy 2 LG v30+ for 1 Mate.

      • no this one

        Huawei mate 20

Someone here mentioned that the camera is like a DSLR

        • Camera is good but definitely not like a DSLR at all lol, not even the on the compact camera level. But it is good compared to other flagships like note 9 or pixel 3. I just hate the front camera that always soften the skin, i much much prefer pixel 3 for front cam

  • +1

    Would 4GB RAM be enough?

    • It's okay but definitely noticeable on the LG G6

  • This is fantastic. Thanks so much. I've had this phone since April last year and it's done me well - pretty good all-round phone.

I've just put in a price protection claim (Coles Master Card - Latitude insurance). I'm not sure if they'll ask for a copy of the catalogue. Do you happen to have a full-page scan, in case they ask for it? The JB Hi Fi website doesn't have next week's catalogue up.

    • +1

I'm also going to put in a claim but haven't due to the fact that it's not currently on sale.

      • I'll let you know how I go. Might have to resubmit in 6 days.

      • Just heard back from Latitude. Looks like they will honour my claim but I need to upload evidence. I wonder if they'll make me resubmit.

        From the email:

"Acceptable evidence includes one of the following:
        · Catalogue
        · Online advertisement
        · In-store photo, including the date of sale"

Now to get a copy of the catalogue.

        • Can you let me know how you go? How did op get the catalogue I wonder?

          • @thisispants: New price is finally listed online:
            https://www.jbhifi.com.au/phones/Outright-Mobile-Handsets/lg…

I'm going to send the link and PDF print of this webpage to Latitude. Fingers crossed…

          • @thisispants: Latitude has fulfilled my price protection claim.

"Based on the information you have provided us, your claim has been approved. We have made a first and final payment of $220.00 to your account representing the benefit for the item that has been reduced. Your claim has now been closed."

This is my third claim on this phone ($100 last October, $100 last December, and now $220). I bought it last April for $899.

So happy I opened this credit card, which I only use for these sorts of purchase.

        • That's better than tight a$$ ANZ cards who only accept from a printed catalogue. I gave them an unfavourable feedback email to get out of dark ages and realize this is 21st century where online ads now dominate.

Might have a look into Coles card option especially for electronic product purchases where prices drop so fast.

          • @deltakilo: I'd be dropping ANZ, bunch of criminals. Only way they'll change.

          • @deltakilo: I think Coles MasterCard changed its Price Protection insurance cover for new cards a while back - just double check before you sign up.

  • +1

Whats the best way of protecting my purchase?

I'm worried about bootloop and screen breakage.

Amex offers screen protection, not sure on the time of validity, up to $200 I think.

Bootloop might require one of those in-store warrantee purchases. I hate them and I'm sure they aren't required for 2 years on a purchase like this, but it might be worth buying to prevent having to argue with staff.

I also have 28deg but think their cover only lasts 6 months (unless it changed when they did the overhaul last year) and is therefore not worth it.

I'm open to all options including obtaining new credit cards.

    • It was a concern for the G4, and early concern for the G5 which didn't prove to be a problem and hasn't occurred, and has not been an issue with the G7, V30 or V40. The in-store warranties rarely offer you more than you are entitled to anyway…

  • +5

I'm really tempted but my galaxy S3 just won't die !

    • run that S3 with a good ROM, and it's still a decent phone!

    • +4

Awesome that you've still got that. There's something satisfying about using something until it well and truly reaches end of life.

    • You're lucky. Mine died because I always avoided updates. Turned out there was a critical OS bug that was guaranteed to brick your phone after a logfile or something overflowed.

  • +4

Great price - but I'll never buy another LG phone.

Have had 2 now which have done the bootloop thing on me, and become worthless bricks.

    • +1

Don't go by brand but rather evaluate individual model.

    • +1

      That's why I bought 12 Huawei Y550 and plus had 12 $50 sims. Now, that's a deal :)

  • I would recommend OnePlus 6 [OP6] over LG phones.
The OP6 is a very good phone.
OP6 isn't water resistant, and has a headphone socket.

    • +1

Nothing beats the quad-dac on LG phones.

      • +1

Is it true that it only uses quad-dac for high impedance headphone? Otherwise it is not activated.

        • That's when it shines, yes. It still offers sharper sound as it cleans up the audio on headphones with an impedance lower than 50ohm

  • I am still using my LG G3 for over 4 years, same original battery still going strong, use it to download files almost 8 hours per day (plugin of coz), never have issues. I bet V30 should be even better!

  • +1

    Is stock limited?

Do JB HiFi have any kind of price protection? re: If i purchased today.

    Thanks.

    • I don't know if they have a specific policy. But there are a fair few comments on here and WP saying people got refunds of the difference without any hassle.

  • on the net there were complaints about the display quality, was that more hype than truth? keen to hear from real owners from ozb. cheers.

    • I think the uniformity issues were in the early production models.
I purchased my v30 early last year and I (still) think the AMOLED screen looks vivid, uniform and clear to me.

  • +2

I'm still running a Nexus 5 which has been an absolute workhorse, despite having to get fixed for the bootloop. On the market for a new phone and wondering whether this is the right one, but considering how many hundreds of times I've dropped my Nexus 5 and never had the screen smash, I'm a bit wary of going for a glass-bodied phone like this…

  • just thinking out loud, if brand new AU stock Samsung S8 drops to below $500, which one would you go for? i'd imagine it's about time for S8 (or maybe S9 as well) to drop big time in the lead up to S10?

    • Temporary sale maybe, but I don't see a permanent RRP drop that low. They are still $999 on Samsung's website.

  • +3

is there any way to get cheap jb giftcards?

  • +3

Boss just bought this phone for $620 and thought it was a ripper deal lol. Should I show him this?
