Came across this as a sponsored add on facebook, doesn't seem to be a competition. Common sense dictates that they'll probably choose the lowest bill to pay off. There's also a referral program to sign up and make a payment to anyone for $5!

Further T&Cs:

Each housemate group must add a minimum of 3 bills to the group tab in order to qualify.Terms & Conditions: Offer starts Jan 1, 2019 ends March 15, 2019. • So this is a lucky draw thing!

  • It's a competition.

    • Not the way I read it, you can add a bunch of bills to your group and they select one to pay for you. Its not one bill for all their users (that would be a competition) its one bill per group (so a deal) :)

That’s my interpretation as well. That being said they do have a rep here would be nice if they can come forward to clarify!

For housemates who split bills. Could be handy in share households to split the bills & save arguments. Shows how much each housemate owes.

So what is this business getting out of us?

Housemates each have to provide verified ID & address (to claim 1 split bill payment each), details of every business the household owes money to (landlord, electricity, supermarkets, etc).

That's a lot of personal information they're getting! Probably enough for fake identity?? Can we trust them?

That 1 (split) bill payment per housemate offer is at their discretion.

(Interestingly they do list house party as an example of a bill🎉 They understand share houses I've lived in!)

Certainly needs more info & reassurance before signing up.

It's a great way for the business to obtain high quality data about usually younger people who haven't worked out that losing their privacy equals losing their money yet.

    • After further reading, details of every business the household owes money to (landlord, electricity, supermarkets, etc) may not be needed. But proof of the bill Finch is going to pay is bound to be required.

  • From their promotion:
★ Winner, Best Personal Finance App 2018
★ Winner, Best Digital Wallet Fintech Australia 2018
★ Winner, Fintech Rising Star 2018
★ App of the Month in Money Magazine

    Also use for group travel.

    Interesting,
but Google Play reviews for Android App are a bit worrying - latest one had their account disabled for failing t&c after receiving payment, so lost their payout😱 So read the T&C carefully!

Pay and request money securely in seconds. (between housemates)

    Secure
We use Touch ID and bank-level security to keep your account protected 24/7

That means each housemate giving them access to their bank account.
Payments are made though their app, which needs to be checked out (any costs, security, etc) before signing up.

    See https://www.finch.me

    • for adding payment details to flakey apps best to use australia post prepaid credit card. lney can be
aid into it and taken from it.

in rebards to identity theft ….yeah, don’t need much to port a phone number and reset peoples email accounts etc except a $2 sim and some thieves won’t pay $2 unless they are australian based .

      • 2.4% fee if using CC with this service, otherwise free. That could be an unpleasant imposition with some large bills.

Disabling the account after payout is concerning. There is no indication of the alledged breach. Unlikely there can be anything done to recover payment. Ozbargainers wouldn't like that!

So sign up you and someone else at your place, add one 300 dollar bill…. Done

    ;)

    • For best chance, sign up with your 1 shared bill just before promotion closes on March 15👍

      $150 each - I'd recommend a $300 house party😉 (from their list of examples)

As long as that 1 bill meets t&c, otherwise account will be disabled & you lose the payout (Google Play - latest review).

Electricity or gas bill sorted this quarter

  • Does the bill have to be in both person's name? Say if it is under one person's name but we both split it , is that ok?

    • 1 person can pay the bill, paid by other housemates through this app.

Have a look at the examples given, including buying festival tickets for another. Shows 1 person paying bill & raising it on app to be split by housemates. What they owe is transferred from their bank account.

It's a bill splitting app, also used for travel & meals etc. This promotion is for shared household bills.

No way this is plausible ..

  • if you sign up via REFERRAL LINKS do you still qualify for promo Get up to $300 off a Bill When Splitting with Finch.me?

  • also does a spouse count as a house mate per t and c?

    • Housemate is not defined or even mentioned in the Ts and Cs

    • Are they over 18, sharing common bills, live at same address… (and mate😉)

Could also apply to household of adult children still living at home with parent(s).

Need to provide ID, phone number, proof of address etc for all mates.

A very quick read of t&c - didn't see an issue. Check for yourself as failure to meet t&c invalidates account (see Google Play review).

This sounds wild how can they make money from this besides the obvious data harvesting

    • A valid question - worth finding the answer, before considering signing up!

Consider, how do other money transfer & bill payment services make their money to provide their service…

And do those other payment services give away vouchers or offer discounts to attract customers?

But the amount paid out in this promotion (max $300/household, but likely much much less) will likely be small in comparison to their set up costs. They need to develop a reputation & user base to become a viable business.

  • The 2.4% fee they take. Probably paying 0.5% so almost 2% off all payments is theirs

    • 2.4% fee they take… Only if using CC.

Paying or requesting money, splitting bills, running tabs, or making bank transfers on Finch is always FREE. We waive transaction fees when you send money using your Finch balance or your debit card. Otherwise, if you want to send money using a credit card our standard 2.4% applies.

I'll file this under the 'too good to be true' pile.

    • No soup (payment) for you😉

  • I just tried this, there is a requirement of making a payment to someone after signing up with the referral link to get the referral bonus.

    • Yep, clearly mentioned in the title. If you have no housemates to work with send me $1 and I’ll send it back. Username is @heh

  • Do they pay the bill for you or do they just give each person the money? not sure how this works

    • +1

      It's a bill sharing service.
Think they credit the 1 bill (say $60) - split ($20 each for 3 people) to each housemate's account.
You can use that credit to pay your share of amounts owing to other housemates for next bills.

The answer for mine was "Don't stop believing - Journey". It worked for both me and my wife, even though she didn't get the targeted email. Hope it's too late!
