  • How do these compare to Indomie ?

    • +17

Better than indomie, thicker better noodle

      • +12

Different taste and noodles and both have strong supporters. Migoreng is great also when it's cooked properly.

    • +9

umm these are super hot and addicting, but mostly hot hot hot

      • +3

        much like the Koreans..

        • +1

Plastic surgery hot Vs spicy hot?

      • +1

One hack is to add some cheese on top and let it melt slightly before serving. Some people swear by this but I have to admit it's probably an acquired taste

        • +2

Plastic cheese needs to be used. The individually wrapped ones.

Once it melts, it makes it creamier.

          • @cwongtech: I didn't know anyone else called it plastic cheese. +1 to fellow cheeser!

        • +1

Yeah I tried that once. 3/10 would not try again.

      • +1

I wouldn't necessarily call these 'spicy' by Korean noodle standards. These are about an average level of spice as far as Koreans are concerned. There are however, specifically spicy Korean noodles you can find at places like Hanaro Mart(QLD) if hot and spicy is what you're after.

        • What level is this for Asians in general then?

      • *addictive.

    • both are great

Indomie is more of sauce based noodle, doesnt taste as good with soup; drain the water after it's cooked and just mix it up with the sauce

Nong Shim is your typical soup noodle, the texture of the noodle definitely leads the pack

    • they have different taste.
I like both. I have both of them in stock.

  • +4

Yes! Loading up. Food sorted for next month.

  • +8

Very good price - probably cheaper to buy it here than in Korea!

  • +11

    Carbs - 80g

    Sodium - 1,790 mg

    • +16

      Additional saving on table salt!

    • +13

Add less of the soup packet.

      • +2

or don't drink the broth that is left over

    • +1

      High sodium is a killer

    • +8

only if you drink all the soup

  • +2

Stack this deal with the one from Aldi ?

    • +2

Aldi should introduce more Asian food, there is a strong demand in this market.

      • +9

I think they should stock more French food, there is a strong demand in this household.

        • Yeah they should, that would be nice to see more additions.

        • +4

          French fries are American jv

        • Their brioche buns are made in france, really tasty product.

  • Is this one soup based or dry?

    • +2

      Soup Based.

      • Thanks! Saw something very similar in packaging that often use for spicy noodle challenge.

        • +4

Thats called Fire Noodles. Black package with crying chicken logo

        • +1

This is mild compared to Samyang hot chicken flavour. With Shin, I might feel the heat on the 2nd to last bite. The first time I tried Samyang I could only have one bite. I won't touch x2 spicy

      • Neither, when I make it at least. All water is soaked up by the noodles.

    • +3

Dried ones are usually more expensive. The spicy challenge ones I think you're referring to this https://www.amazon.com/Samyang-Bulldark-Chicken-Roasted-Nood…

    • I drain the water and have it dry

      • +1

I tried using the corn starch to thicken the soup (use little water with cooked noodles) and tastes good too.

  • +2

So that is why my local Woolworths had a large amount of these on display. The price had not been reduced yet.

    • Haha I thought the same 2 weeks ago when I saw my local have a shelf full of em. Smiled because I thought this was coming! Love this ramen.

  • +8

it's selling Number 1 instant Noodle in KOREA.
and even better price then KOREA.
easy to make and taste so good.
you can put extra topping for sliced spring onion and one egg.

    • +15

      KOREA

      • +1

your comment Number 1 in KOREA.

    • -1

we add cilantro and an egg.

      • +5

that's not Korean way because almost of Korean doesn't like cilantro.
but if you like it doesn't matter.

        • +1

          cilantro…coriander
          tomato….tomato

        • +1

exactly, who cares about the korean way.
          add whatever u want ;)

        • When I lived in Korea there were plenty of places that had dishes with cilantro in it.

      • -2

        we add cilantro

        Try it with coriander… Yum….

        • sorry coriander as well haha

        • easier to refer to cilantro as the leaves and coriander as the seed.

          • +7

@bohn: I rather call it coriander and coriander seed.

    • +4

Kimchi (cold), egg ,sesame oil, tofu ,little bit of sugar

      • that's very good toppings!

        • +3

:) yummy, the left over soup can be mixed with left over rice with an extra egg (stir it when reheat the soup). But obviously, you probably already know XD.

          • +1

@fchis: Yes i am and i'm korean so haha

          • @fchis: i went over to a korean mate's house to play video games and he did this

he cooked his noodles with sausages and eggs and ate it, then reheated some rice and ate a second lunch with the remaining sauce, like, holy crap now i know why he had weight issues

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: LOL… probably enough portion for the whole day already.

              • @fchis: asians respect the breakfast-lunch-dinner schedule, no exceptions
i guarantee he took in 3k+ more calories after i left

                • @[Deactivated]: XD, Ouch! That's why I add Kimchi or veggies so I don't feel too guilty of eating it.

    • +8

      Not anymore. It used to be #1 noodle in Korea but recently lost to this noodle;

      https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https:/…

Nong Shim is a dishonest company that fabricated a story to gain the biggest market share years ago.
It is why consumers in Korea boycott this company.

I personally found Nong Shim Shin noodle is full of artificial flavour and no longer buy it.
If you compare the ingredients with Ottogi Jin Ramen you will see the difference and why Korean people back for Jin ramen.

      • +2

        Yes, that's truth.
but still many peoples buy Shin Ramyun, because of taste.
and i love Jin Ramyun mild as well.

      • +1

You are correct Ning Shim Shin should be shamed. I also prefer Jin Ramen. I'm not Korean but I know Ning Shim Shin is quite dodgy

      • +2

Okay, I made an account (I'm a lurker) specifically to respond to your post, haha. I've been trying to find out more about Nongshim's practices and what makes them dishonest but haven't been able to find anything; perhaps I'm not using the right search terms.

Could you (or anyone else who has replied thus far) share the things Nongshim has done that's shameful or dishonest (plus sources)?

        Thanks!

          • @fchis: Thanks for the link.

Looks like we shall all skip this one.

Not worth the risk to eat these products. Gives you cancer in the long run

          • +2

@fchis: Thanks for the link. However, that page writes about the presence of carcinogens in six of Nongshim's products (not Shin Ramyun), which resulted in recalls in South Korea back in 2012. The second section writes about Malaysia imploring people to avoid eating Shin Ramyun until tests are finalised.

The link does not write about Nongshim's apparent dishonest practices. Specifically, I'd be keen to learn more about the claim about the story they fabricated and the boycotts by the Koreans.

    • I usually add a slice of cheese, which melts, along with an egg.

      • that also good topping! nice

    • -2

it's selling Number 1 instant Noodle in KOREA.
and even better price then KOREA.

Is it worth stocking up and exporting it to Korea ?

      • Nah Cruz u will have to pay for the custom and duty

      • nothing worth it at all.

      • +3

        No only export to KOREA

    • i add egg and spam as a topping, couldn't ask for a better breakfast

  • This makes me so happy! I just had my last one from the last time they were half price for lunch today. Great timing!

    • +1

      This makes me so happy!

Sure it's not a placebo effect mate? =p

    • -1

      good for you.

  • +1

Try it with cheese slice, spam and egg. It sounds weird but it's how my Korean friends eat these

    • that's not weird, thats how Ramen are usually served

    • that's kind of like BooDaeChiGae.
must be yummy and plus put more topping for Baked beans if you like.

    • Cheese and Spam are things South Korea adopted into their diet due to the American presence during the war(Spam being a military staple at the time and useful in feeding large numbers. So spam, cheese and few other western items are very popular additions in ramen dishes(Budae Jjigae comes to mind).

  • How do these compare with the ramens at a proper ramen store??

    • +2

Ramen store much better than this

      • damn :(

    • it's instant Ramyun so….

    • If you want authentic Korean style, can't go wrong with this; even small traditional Korean shops in South Korea cook their soup with this powder and the noodles too.

      • What about Japanese Ramen??

        • try ichiban ramen

it's one of the better easily-available instant ramen in the supermarkets that is actually pretty decent.

as always, don't forget to crack an egg in to it while it's cooking :-)

          • @shakoo: they're very nice too.

          • @shakoo: Thanks, shame they are not on the half price sale this week :(
