  • Kind of a Dupe: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/43491.

This is on sale with the 20% off today only - one of quite a few decent models on sale with the discount.

I rate HP laptops pretty much at the bottom of the barrel , but you really can't argue with the price .
Thats $320 with the 20% off and the free shipping is just the cream on top .

Really, I rate HP/Compaq very well in the budget range - I've bought a few similar models to this one for my brother and some friends and they are great notebooks for web browsing, office etc.

      It's actually $399 including the 20% off - normal price is $499.

From the website: "PRICE REFLECTS 20% DISCOUNT Offer ends today!

Nah, I'm with Troy, they are awful IME, & HP Aust are pig-ignorant to deal with warranty wise! I would take ANY other brand over HP/Compaq any day of the week!

Now, someone did once mention that their business class lappys are good; as is the service for same; but I've got no personal experience with those so I can't confirm or deny that, but I've got heaps with the consumer grade stuff & I wouldn't touch it! Just my $0.02! ;)

i've found acer terrible for service

        • How so Peccadilloes? Do you have a specific example?

We use them at work, they have an excellent online system for service & nice, simple pickup & return courier system for repairs/replacement. We never have any dramas with the lappys unless it's an ID10T error caused by a loose nut on the keyboard, but there were some issues with a few monitors a while back that were sorted promptly & professionally! ;)

Their communication is good, their staff are friendly & helpful, and they ALWAYS honour their warranty! Turnaround is, IME, 10-14 days max! Unlike other manufacturers coughHPcough!

bought my pc for home use. my service queries were not answered to their 2 hour turnaround promises. it took weeks. the staff who got back 'resolved ' the queries wihtout explaining properly forcing me to email again, wait etc, and finally give up. after a year, their upgrade to win 7 caused problems, I had to write repeatedly and finally complain to fair trading to get a response.
          it goes on and on…
          I gave up finally.

  • My bad . Yes $399 already reflects 20% off .
bought one for my wifes parents , As they live on the other side of the country free shipping is a bonus .
I agree it's fine for normal browsing etc . I've seen some HP desktop replacements with graphics cards that got smoking hot and made a lot of noise . This has a 32nm core and is clocked nice and low so should be relatively quiet and cool with hopefully decent battery life . I rang officeworks for a pricematch but they won't do it over the phone and their online ordering number is not open on saturdays , So a bit no can do there but happy at $400 .
I'm a thinkpad T series man . Way overpriced but with big discounts they can be reasonable value in the long run . We still have an 8year old T30 that still works great with windows 7 !
