  • Any idea what brand of cells are inside? 6 cells per pack? If it's decent, should be worth shucking for other things…

    • Samsung

    • +1

      maybe 2 parallel banks of 5 cells to get 20v @ 4aH.

      • Thanks for the reply guys. from Spinbots post, it appears that they're Samsung 2AH cells - 10 per pack… CHEAP!

Yep, I've posted these pics in previous deals but didn't bother this time as I thought most would already know ;) Disassembly and the final result

I pulled one apart the other day. It had these in it:
    https://lygte-info.dk/review/batteries2012/Samsung%20INR1865…
I think it had 10 cells

    • $2 per branded 18650 is insane value. Good contribution spinbot

  • Would these work with Ozito grass trimmers?

    • Noo, not unless you get an adapter

    • good source of cells to repack an ozito or any other battery.

I'm thinking four of these would make a good 36V x 8AHr eBike battery. Yes?

      • Yep,
        I was pondering 11 packs of them for a 16Ah 48v :P

        • 48V means repacking. For 36V, I was planning to just use 2x18V series and two chargers.

You must be talking a 1000W motor or bigger. Where do you plan to ride that?!

          • @bargaino: 1000w isnt actually that much in reality, and barely offsets the weight of the battery and motor. It's not like it's 4x the performance of a 250w motor.
As for joining packs, I'd fix them in series and get a new 36v charger for simplicity. It probably wont upset the existing two 5S BMSs in series

          • +1

@bargaino: Nah, it's only 250w @36v nominal motor (~600 peak with my current 44v), and yeah I'd be spot-welding my own pack to replace my current pack which has much more sketchy RC batteries. I used to do 36km to city and return a day & charge at night, but now it's only 2k so I don't really need a big pack indeed…

  • Heaps at Garbo, Qld.
Garbo? Never heard it called that?

  • any tools there to go with the batteries?

ozito stuff is way overpriced in comparison

    • Nah, Ozito is good value for money. You have to consider the 5-year nationwide warranty with guaranteed stock availability; you can't just go into Aldi if your circular saw dies halfway through a project and expect a replacement item to keep you going.

Of course, both being 18v tools & batteries you can buy or build adapters in either direction. I acquired an Aldi 18v chainsaw sharpener, and custom built an adapter to match all my Ozito batteries so I didn't have to commit to a second competing battery set. Of course, it's much better to buy the Ozito on sale when Bunnings price matches Aldi!!

  • Anybody seen clearance outside of QLD?

  • the quick chargers there (and another lot somewhere else) are all the same but have at 3 different barcodes, one priced at $9.99, one at $14.99 and one at $19.99. go figure.

  • +1

    Only 6 left @GC @3pm

    • Dozens at my local, but $40 still.

  • Um.. is ALDI a franchise??

Redbank non sale price is 39.99 for the battery and 19.99 for the charger

    • Nvm.. apparently pricing is set by the regional manager

      • It appears prices are set by each store manager, as prices are not consistent with regions. I have 3 aldi's in my area. I know 1 never reduces prices dramatically, and I know another always does, and if stock remains , prices will get to 50% off.

        • What I've been told… (may not be totally accurate)
          Regional Manager discount prices.
Store Managers don't set prices themselves.
Different stores will sell more of some stock, so stock is shifted to that store & price may not be discounted as it is expected to sell anyway.
Price may be discounted on system but not displayed. Do a price check.
          And many other variations.
