Sandisk Ultra 128GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive $29 @ MSY ($27.55 w/ Officeworks Price Beat)

660

Hello ozbargainers, long time lurker, first time poster.
I was browsing for a decent flash drive and came across the Sandisk ultra 128gb USB 3.0 selling at officeworks for $58.00. Looked around a bit and found MSY is selling it for $29.00. Got OW to price beat so got it for $27.55. Not the best flash drive out there but a decent deal IMO. Plenty of stock at the Bourke street store in Melbourne and in other places too. Stay away from the Elizabeth St. OW though, there tech section was flooded so no access to these flash drives at this moment.

Cheers!

have this and its good - doesnt throttle with heat in my usage

Good to know. I was a bit worried about the heat given the experience with some other flashdrives. Thanks!

    • Doesn't throttle because it's horribly slow to begin with. I've got USB2 keys that read faster than this thing.

Good drives, annoying design - I personally hate the USB drives that retract and slide back in as I find them more difficult to plug in. First world problems though

yeah that is annoying on this one, but it does have a catch to keep it open - shouldn't be a problem if you handle it from the sides when plugging in

OTOH, I'm one of the folks who totally dig this design! No cap to lose!

I have had one of these for the past year.. And its recently stuffed up..
Cant delete files nor can i add files, cant format it no matter what program i use.
So pissed off, as it was a good flash drive

    • Yeah the NAND is dead.

      • NANDI!? OwO

    • I had the extreme go, write protected after 3 months, had to RMA send it to Mascot NSW for replacement from USA.

    • Lifetime warranty?

  • I've had one of these in a 16gb version for ~5 years. Decent speeds, super reliable and gets heaps of use. Even ran an OS on it on a microserver 54l for a few months and still no problems.

Edit: Whoops. A different model. Sorry

    • Yes you probably had the Extreme model which is even way faster and more reliable than this.

      • Yeh that's the one!

        • Yeah, I’ve got both and the extreme is way better

  • Have the same model but 16GB product, bought it when thought it had good performance.
It turned out to be 10MB/s writing and 100MB/s reading, not suitable to use in transferring big files.
Then it was broken when I was copying my graduate project, no write access anymore (in 2015).
Last Dec I searched some docs and found the factory formating tool to repair it, then dropped it in my drawer and don't use it anymore.

TBH, I would recommend this product instead: Sandisk Ultra fit, usually $35+ for 128GB model now, tiny but reliable.

    • Flash drives generally are unreliable. They're really only suitable for temporary storage such as transferring files and such. Using them for backup isn't advisable.

With SSD prices coming down so much portable SSDs are much more attractive now IMO because they're much faster and reliable. 256GB Samsung T5 was $79 and $97 another time.

      • But you have to know there are many cases of writing lock issue of this module.

  • i have a bunch of these, but 16GB some 32GB,
touch wood but never had any issues.

the only bad thing is that you get used to the performance and can't use cheap / slow ones

  • Mixed amazon reviews, the fastest says 171MB/s read, 55MB/s write. Others say USB 2.0 speeds and others again say these heat up fast and bog right down to sub 10MB/s.

I guess the truth lies somewhere in the middle but quality control doesn't seem to have been a thing with these.
