join through Harvey Norman for 10% off for new port ins

    • +8

Second this. Bear in mind,10% is off plan fees only and not handset fees.

Monthly cost will be $62.10 after $5.90 discount.

      • Good deal indeed! I wonder if those #gluegate issues have been fixed now ? Numerous people have complained about this and going through the trouble of returning the Mate20Pro and waiting for a replacement device.

        • Yes the issue has been fixed since last November. Any devices after November manufacture date have no issue.

          • @Letrico: Cool! any idea how to identify the manufactured date?

          • @Letrico: Be careful of your words. There's no official statement from Huawei that the issue has been fixed.
You are misleading people for whatever reasons.

        • Have a look at this video https://youtu.be/r6lo8SU2NOo

          • @Cmaz: Whoa! that sounded scary. Apparently even the new BOE screens have these problems. Better to check with HN on the warranty terms before purchasing.

            • @goks: My experience was really bad with the warranty claims. The phone got green screen within one week and I went to the optus store but since it was harvey port in they decline in store warranty claim and ask me to contact online. Btw it was optus Miranda Westfield nsw

              • +1

                @Cmaz: Thanks for letting know

        • bloody LG screen

      • +2

You can get another 10% off later by chatting to Optus, if you have an edu email.

    • Does HN still do this? I read somewhere (in OzB) that it finished end of Jan?

      • +2

Just did this yesterday at Harvey Norman Bondi Junction (NSW) to get my Google Pixel 3 :)

        • Thats great to know, thank you :)

        • are you able to get 10% student discount after 10% off in HN?

          • @Jamesx: Some people have said you can. Just chat to Optus after you have bought.

    • If you go through Harvey Norman, will you still be eligible for the GT Watch promotion considering it's not listed as a participating retailer?

      • pretty sure you will be just ask before signing up

Not a great deal in my opinion considering 2 years contract

    • -1

Not a good deal considering the Optus network is horrendous.

      • -7

Not a good deal considering allegations on Huawei's privacy & phone-home risks. Why risk it?

    • +12

      $69 minus HN discount is $62.10 over 24 months = $1490 for 24 months.

Cheapest the phone has been is for $1120, making it $370 for a 2 year plan for 30 GB of data and unlimited calls at $15.4 per month. $399 GT watch on top!

Ideally, the plan is FREE + $30 in your pocket with the GT watch full value if you are after this phone!

Why is this not a deal??

If you have a thing with the Optus network, yeah.. maybe not for you!

      • +3

The Optus contract phone comes with Single sim not dual though.

        • Deal breaker

      • -1

Thing is, breaking out of this is $1599 penalty, pro rata.

        That is the only catch.

Also optus network sucks. I live in sydney, no signal in a lot of metro areas, especially when travelling by train.

    • -1

For those on contract and time to renew it is not bad unlike all the iphone plans. Complete rip off.

  • +1

I am getting $59 special offer with 30GB per month. Am I on a wrong page on Optus website??

    • +1

Not with Huawei Mate 20 pro, its with other phones like pixel 3 64gb , iphone 8 64gb etc.

      • Thanks. Got it now.

    • +1

you have to click on the phone to get the updated price below

      • Thanks. Got it now.

    • Yes I got one today at that price

  • No dual sim on Optus I take it?

  • is it dual sim version?

    • go in store and ask them to show you the box, if there are two IMEIs then dual sim :)

      • ok thanks

        • +1

but i will wait till HN $200 credit, which probably here next week for Valentines :). also, 5G phones coming soon, can’t wait to get the Sony XZ4 if the rumour of 52Mp camera is true ^_^

    • Optus online chat said Optus only supplies single sim version for any phone.

      • what age does Optus live in? why dosnt Optus only sell phones with 2GB RAM and 16 GB storage or under?

    • optus is single sim version

  • +1

Only one color - midnight blue, need the twilight back

    • +2

Australia only have midnight blue from carriers and black can be purchased directly from JB.

  • -6

you can get a free watch..

    sign up
    redeem watch
return phone unsealed and cancel contract within 30 days
    wait for the watch :)

worked with the wireless charger / freebuds promo

    • +7

      Sounds heaps like fraud

      • can’t be helped if you didn’t like the plan and had a change of mind

        • Change of mind can only work if optus came to you to sell a plan. they can refuse to cancel if you went to optus to buy one.

    • -1

Can you cancel and get out of contract within 30 days? I thought the cooling off period was a few days.

      • cooling off period…. lmfao

      • yup.. i cancelled mine 2 weeks after.. received freebies 2 weeks after. I thought the freebies wouldn't come but they still honoured it

  • Anyone get it through Harvey Norman? And is Harvey Norman one of the stores in the list for claiming the Huawei watch?

  • Are these devices safe from the Chinese gvt's espionage activities?

    • +2

They know your SMS and blood pressure

    • +1

and teleport you and your family to a prison in China

      • no food, no drink, no sex in the prison

    • +7

pretty safe as your data would go to Aussie Gov's 5 Eyes Spying system first. Any privacy will be checked by NSA and 5 eyes before sending to China.

      • +1

which means 5 eyes pick the information first and then China in the second chair….

        • Exactly, so any useful data will be filtered by 5 eyes, and the second chair would only see some crappy code.

      • Then why do the government block employees from using them?

        • +1

Hard for 5 eyes to spy as Huawei may not want to provide the backdoor to them. Afterall, Huawei is not a US company and does not need to listen to the US gov.

  • +1

Damn, new services only (for the $69 plan)

    • Same here:(

    • +1

      Valid till March

Port your number out for a couple weeks and than sigh up.

  • +1

Oh wtf, just signed up to the plan on Friday and now it's cheaper 😯

    • Damn, my plan expired this Nov, and has to wait another 9 months. Maybe wait for P30 or Mate 30. LOL

      • Well to be fair, the plan is the same. $59 a month but the phone is now $10 instead of $15.

        • Hopefully, it will drop to $0 for $59 plan. :P

    • Message them and get them to change it otherwise you'll cancel the plan and recontract. Pretty sure you can cancel within 14 days

      • -1

Talked with 2 stores in Sydney, no, this doesn't work.you cannot cancel it for free even on the same day. 14 days free cancel is not true.

        • +1

I signed up on 30 Jan for $74. Asked Sales chat and they agreed to cancel.

          • @Jaff: Online sign up is different to the store order. I did ask online chat, and they refused to make any change since the order was made through store. Not sure if it is common sense.

            • +1

@GAO: I thought cooling off period was applicable on all orders irrespective of how/where the order was placed ?

    • The lower the better, good for us. Optus, please keeping the price drop.

  • Anyone planning to get this phone please watch this video first https://youtu.be/r6lo8SU2NOo

    • +2

mate, we are in Au, we have warranty here.

      • True but even with the warranty it's a hassle. You have to send it back for them to access and you are left with no phones. Only wanted to give heads up for the fellow ozbargainers….

        • Problem has been fixed since November manufactured units regardless. Optus also pulled all their old stock.

          • @BradH13: I got the phone on 10th Jan green tint in 3 days

            • @Cmaz: Sad to hear that, hopefully they had changed it for you

  • Phone gets good reviews but I haven't heard good things about their software support… I'd say this will only get 1 major version update officially if you are lucky.

    • -4

Not a good phone in my opinion.. better off with a note 9 or a oneplus 6t. I ended up using an iPhone XR though.

**not a good phone as the touch lag is horrendous.. screen is so so.. everything else is good

      • +1

So a phone with the best antutu benchmark, and best DXOMARK camera score a pretty good user experience, and stuff all bloatware is apparently not a good phone for a Samsung and iPhone fan boy.

There is zero lag. Screen is up there with the best if you like a natural tone not blown out and exaggerated like Samsung screens and better pixil density than the iPhone and Samsung.

        • -2

There’s a touch lag. I didn’t say phone lag. Use it and you’ll see for yourself. You seem to just run off reviews etc and haven’t personally owned one

    • Huawei offers lots of update in these days …… thanks to the USA government …………

      • Maybe the updates are for anti-5 eyes spying on you.

    • i don't think so, i use P9 and still get software upgrade regularly.

      • According to GSM arena the P9 was released in April 2016 with marshmallow (6.0) and since then it's had one major version update to 7.0. Pretty much as I said.

The current version of Android is 9.0.

  • Any one want to sell the watch? or want to buy the phone?

    • I'm planning to buy the phone soon(like within a week or two) but have no use of the watch. Do you want the watch ?

  • +1

I got the Huawei Mate 10 Pro from Optus in December 2017, had a couple of security updates and recently upgraded to android 9.0 so can't complain about the updates. Bit annoyed about the $69 plan being only for new customers though.

    • It is not for new customer, it is for a new plan - sign a 24 months contract.

      • Well, it's new numbers only. Existing customers cannot re-contract onto it.
