        • On the webpage it say 'recontracting services" are allowed

Offer ends 28/02/19. Redeem at Huawei by 24/03/19. New and recontracting services only

          • @kikxz: That's in reference to the Watch, I think.

On the promo page, if you select "I am new", the $69 offer appears, if you select "I am with Optus" the offer disappears.

I recontracted my existing Optus number to the $85 plan. (Even got 20% off to make it $68/mth). Had to threaten to leave Optus though and get put through to the "Retention Team".

Just a heads up for those who purchased this earlier. A friend told me this is approved automatically via the website with valid imei numbers, so you may be able to fudge your purchase date and slip through the cracks…. He received a dispatch notice for the watch today after botching his purchase date last week but attaching a ligit POP with the actual purchase date (November 2018)

    • How did that work as mine says IMEI already used in promotion

  • Is there anyway to debrand this phone and get rid of the optus bloatware by uploading a stock firmware?
Also i read that Optus are super slow at releasing security updates

    • +1

There is ZERO optus bloatware. There is only one software version in Australia and it comes with no branding. I have been using the phone since Xmas and I have found it very very good. The face unlock blows iPhone face id out of the water I have received 3 updates since just before Xmas. Inc the google January security patches and see that the Feb updates are scheduled as soon as they are released

      • Did you get yours from Optus?

        • Nope but I do serious research before I purchase any phone. Huawei only have one phone model and software in Australia. Definitely no branding. I purchased from jbhifi as optus would not sell outright. But I can confirm the identical model and software. Phone is duel sim and you can expand the memory with a huawei memory card in the second sim tray. A bit of a pain that it's their own memory card but they are cheap in comparison to standard micro sd cards

          • @BigDaddyG: Thanks for the info. From what i read the optus version is single sim only. It has a dual sim slot but only 1 works with a sim card period. So there must be software diffrence in between them.
Also outright phones are updated by huawei directly. Optus phones are updated by optus and there are lots of complaints on the optus forum for no updates.
Hence why i was wondering if one can put the stock software on an optus phone?

            • @FartArse: Oh wow. I just asked optus chat and they say that it uses the generic firmware for lya-l29 model

              • @BigDaddyG: They are wrong. I confirm with harvey norman today that optus branded mate 20 pro is single sim only as second sim is locked via firmware

                • +1

@FartArse: The phone model you got from Optus/HN is L09 - one SIM, Optus branded, Optus bloatwared… no way to remove them, and updates managed by Optus

the Mate20Pro sold by JB is model L29, dual sim, no branding, no bloatware, updates managed by Huawei- more frequent updates

I was interested in this plan and after I saw the Optus logo at restarting, I gave up> had a really bad experience with Optus branded android phone

                  • @bzha515: Can confirm that there is Optus bloatware and lengthy splash screens and lack of updates.

  • Anyone have any luck with signing up to this deal moving from an existing plan? I tried a bunch of times and one person let me through but after checking my details she said it is only valid to people in certain postcodes (what)?? I am in Victoria.

  • Woke up this morning with an issue on the display, there's a purple streak/line on the right edge of the screen. Went to the store I got the phone from and they gave me some crap about having to send the phone back to Huawei to get it assesed before it can be replaced. It might take 2-3 days or longer

Talked to the online chat and they couldn't do anything other then asking me to call the helpline, what's the point of the online chat then.

Finally got someone on the line and explained the situation, the guy immediately said they are aware of screen issues on the phone and can get it replaced but it has to go through the store which goes through the same process of sending it back to Huawei. The other option was to recontract without extra charges, cancel the current line, they send a satchel to send the old phone in and I get a new phone in store. Last option was to cancel the line and return the phone via satchel, I went with option 3 lol

No more LG and Huawei phones for me.

  • Doesn't appear to be $69 anymore. I assumed the offer was valid till 31/03/2019?

  • +1

Offer is still available at $69

They seem to have removed the homepage landing offers.

    • Optus chat says it's withdrawn. Have you had success signing up via that link?

      • I haven't tried. But I am going through the sign up pages and it seems to work. Maybe call HN and check if they do it still

  • I signed up for this yesterday and it got confirmed today. Phone is on the way. Hope I don't get a greenscreen fail on mine. This will be the first "flagship" phone I've ever had.

    • +1

How did you sign up? using the link?

Reviews are pretty good for this phone, hopefully you'll like your first flagship.

      • I signed up online, I can't get into a store to do it at HN and claim the discount but it's still an awesome deal. I'd had enough of Telstra!!! The phone has just arrived today by courier, I'm so impressed with Optus speed for mobile service and activations so far. I got a new number so not sure what porting is like for others. I'm charging it now. Even comes with a tpu case in the box allowing me time to find the ideal case for it. Usually the cases are hard to come by if you get the phone on release date. I'm like a little kid at Christmas! Been reading reviews, watching unboxing etc. First thing I'll say, is it makes galaxy s8 feel like a toy in hand!

  • If they say it's removed and you still want this offer, just ask for the "promo plus 59" plan and it is in their system. It's pretty good deal overall hey. Can't complain. Now onto redeem the watch I never needed but always wanted one hahaha

    • Are you referring to HN or Optus?

      • Optus. Not sure about HN, best to check with local store. I had a friend try get the plan with Optus online and they said no. Named the exact plan and all of a sudden it worked? Also, watch redemption went smoothly. Waiting now for unnecessary smartwatch. If it's half as good as the phone, I'll love it. This phone is simply amazing. Battery is outstanding!

  • Hi guys, can you still claim the ft watch if you sign up a contract with HN? Asking as The promotion link doesn't have HN as a participating retail store.?

    Thanks.

    • Yeah you just put 'Other' and enter Harvey Norman. As mentioned above, from my understanding they don't even check the details.

      • Tried to get 10% offer from hn. They said offer no longer avaliable. But can do other plans. I signed up directly with Optus using link above. No confirmation yet. Just a temporary order number. Hopefully still can get the watch.

  • Have people been getting their watches? Do they send you an email confirming the application was successful and that the watch is on it's way?
