Duracell Rechargeable Batteries and Charger $19 (2x AA and 2x AAA Included) @ Coles

110

Saw it today at local Coles in Oakland's park SA. Seems like good price for 4 batteries and charger combo. Hope will be helpful for someone.

The pack also includes 2 AA 1300 mAh NiMH Batteries and 2 AAA 750 mAh NiMH Batteries.

Not even LSD. Poor value compared to Ikea. Does not look like a great charger. Pairs only?

    Much better quality charger $15:

    • Isnt that ikea charger $20? Only $15 for IKEA family members? (Ok apparently family member thingy is free)

    A poor charger.

Copied from my previous comment about this model charger https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/4118695/redir

"Even worse, it's only a semi-smart charger, which charges batteries in pairs only. This means that it is very difficult to avoid overcharging your batteries.

Also, it won't fully charge AA Eneloops or the Aldi AA batteries. To charge a 2000mAh battery, you have to put about 2800mAh into it, as charging isn't 100% efficient, and some energy is wasted as heat. This charger can only suppy about 2200mAh before the timer turns it off, so your batteries will only be charged to about 1600mAh. Perhaps this is good, it's less likely you'll overcharge your batteries as often."

  • I don't know much about rechargeable batteries or chargers. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Most people are in the same boat as you. It's a specialized field. In an ideal world, charger manufacturers would list the bad points as well as the good points on the packaging.

This site has good reviews, check any chargers here before buying:
      https://lygte-info.dk/review/Review%20Charger%20Nitecore%20D…

They don't pull punches either, see this review of the Nitecore I2:
      https://lygte-info.dk/review/Review%20Charger%20Nitecore%20I…
Says "The NiMH charging stops on voltage, not -dv/dt, this means the batteries may not be fully charged."

If you can't find a review on that site, look for a review on Amazon by "Nlee the engineer".
