The plan does not include 13, 1300 and 1800 numbers.

Wow, I think LC finally got the message about being more upfront about plan inclusions.

    • +4

"Wow, I think LC finally got the message about being more upfront about plan inclusions."

LC has become upfront for the bargain savvy OZbargainers. General public is still kept in the dark ie their website continues to hide the same piece of information in T&Cs in some PDFs.

      • +4

Yep, they're just satisfying the requirements to advertise on here for free.

        • Ah, yes, I agree with you both!

  • whats the go with $20 postage for a SIM???

    • +1

to stop people from signing up for 1 month..?

      • so set the price accordingly, instead of hiding it as "shipping costs"

        • +1

so why are you negging the deal..?

    • +4

It comes wrapped in 10mm thick unobtanium.

    • +2

i paid $20 'postage' when i originally signed up aaaages ago. recently changed plans and got charged 20 again as a 'deposit'. no chance of ever getting it back because apparently it is now a different charge. oh and even though it says the freedom to change up and down plans for free i am somehow not entitled to a $20 refund as new customers have to pay a $20 deposit on signup, my $20 'postage' when i signed up doesnt count. so ive paid it twice. morons.
      rant over.

      • Dodgy! What's to stop them from changing the "deposit" to something else like "security", making people pay another extra $20.

        • +1

Nothing they can do what ever they like. Omg theres no contract whats to stop them from increasing the cost from $5 to $5 million the next month. Go sign a 2 year contract.

        • From their facebook:

" there's no deposit on the Discovery Lite.r plan. We tried the deposit thing, and had so much abuse of it that we scrapped it."

I wonder abuse from who… =.= seems like you had the chance to get the $20 back, but cause of all your whinging about it, new customers wont be able to now (Y)!

    • To prevent you from jumping to a better plan you find in a months time.

I'm on TPG and will stay because I paid roughly $20 to join them.

  • +1

This plan is great. I'm going to get this one for my girlfriend.

  • What is the cost of the SIM card?

  • I've been with these guys for a year now, initially had a billing issue which was rectified in a day and since than haven't looked back.

Will stay with LC until they collapse, hopefully they wont :P

  • DAMIT! i just signed up with TELSTRA! haha i wonder what network provider these guys use?

    • oh they use Optus … I was with Virgin and cancelled them for consistent drop outs and poor 3G … whose to say these guys are any better… their website is so wierd… did i get it right, theres a plan that states $5 monthly fee for $100 worth of calls? wow…

      • My bf was on virgin. He kept getting over billed on it. Before that he was on optus. both providers had issues with drop outs.
Got him on this one and it is working well even though it is the same network. If it's not broke don't q it. There is still the occasional crap connection. But me being on vodafail and him on LC. Not sure who to blame.

  • This $5 plan is worse than the $5 plan they had on ozbargain last month. And still no mention of the 30 days required notice to cancel on this advert… thumbs down!

    • +1

      is only $5

      • +2

You'll lose your $20 if you cancel without giving 30 days notice. Pretty important special term, which the poster hasn't mentioned yet again.

        • +1

Misleading info, the plan costs $5 a month, how do u lose $20 without giving 30 days notice. The $20 is a separate fee u pay when u sign up

    • Agreed.

    • You can cancel whenever u want, just port out your number or throw your sim away.

  • +2

I got the $10.99 "medium usage" deal a month or two back with these guys and I could not be happier. It is EXACTLY as advertised in their terms and conditions and a real bargain.
This is $5 and gives you all the above and people are STILL whinging and negging???
Sheesh. What you else do you want for five measly dollars? Free catering?. Gorgeous blondes to hand delver your sim?
    $5 guys! Bargain!

    • +2

It's not $5, it's $25. I got the $10.99 deal as well but it's not all as claimed/advertised. The LC rep said usage records update within 48 hrs, but for me it often takes far longer than that.

They're not whinging, they're alerting users to important and pertinent information that is hidden in the Ts & Cs that may in some way help them reduce cost/hassles down the track.

I thank them for that, it helped me a lot during the last LC deal, and it's more than LiveConnected could bother to do to be clear and upfront.

      • +1

I would expect to carefully and cynically read the terms and conditions with any telco. More pity on the fool who does not. You should see what Optus charge for data roaming overseas!
I think people have been overly harsh with the LC rep and so eager to neg that (especially last time)that they run the risk of forgetting what a superb deal these guys actually do.
Oh and the data updating: thats all Optus network AFAIK and similar accross the board of Optus resellers.
They have however expanded their notification system so that there are midmonth and 90% usage warnings.

        • It's not just data, call records as well.

Yes, that's normal for LC, they will pass the Optus buck when there is an issue.

  • yeah that plan was great.

  • Hey LC Rep, any chance of bringing back the $10.99 "medium usage" deal from a month or two back for us Ozbargainers? 100MB of data is pretty good for a $5 plan, but not quite enough for most people I reckon.

  • +1

As a current LC customer i have to say these guys are great. Firstly their customer service is great, they get back to you really quickly, do what they say they will do and you don't have to chase them up for simple things (e.g. switching of voicemail, general queries etc). The value is fantastic! I don't think you can get anything close, maybe TPG, but why not give these guys a go, they're cheaper after all.

I would say if you're hesitating to sign up, don't over think it and get on board. All you need to know is:
    - 13/1800 aren't included
    - first month is pro rata (which means you only get the portion of the months credit depending on when you sign up - so say u sign up half way through the month you pay 50% of the $5, but you also only get $50 credit), when you first log into the usage page it tells you exactly how much credit you can use in your first month.

After all you're free to change carriers as it's only a month to month contract so I would say the majority of people here will be quite satisfied with their service and stay on.

    • +1

Yep, I agree. Also, apparently diverted calls aren't included in the cap (if this plan is exactly the same as the previous $5 one, in terms of whats included)- you'll be charged excess, which sucks.

    • +2

Problem is for me at least, there were 2 - 3 times or more in the last month that usage records were not updated for around 4-5 days, so it's not much good if you have little pro-rata credit left or you are getting close to the end of the billing cycle it can be difficult to manage your usage. I guess I was used to Voda/3, they updated usage records within 24 hrs without fail. Other than that I can't really fault their service.

      • I see what you mean CG, if anyone is running android get the credit usage app - it logs everything real time and very accurately. I'm sure iOS has something similar. And JLove could you clarify what you mean by diverted calls aren't included? Do you mean if we call a number and it is diverted to another number?

        • +1

Yep, if the number you call gets diverted to another number, whether its a mobile number or landline, the call cost will be charged as excess- so becareful!!! If you know that person diverts the call after X seconds, probably best to hang up just before X seconds and ring again.

Its in the Discovery T&C, make sure you read it!

        • +1

yep andy that's the one, thanks JLove i must have missed that in the TC's!

  • +1

Month to Month contract… so what happens when plan becomes discontinued?

    • -5

My guess is you'll be rolled over to a more expensive plan automatically, and it will be up to you to give them 1 month notice to leave.

      • +1

If you want to be helpful dkslim, quote the facts from the T&C, not what you 'guess'.

StevieRay, you should have a look at the previous LiveConnected deal discussion, where the Rep of LC had contributed in and where you'll find your answer.
If they do cancel the plan, they'll have to give you 21days notice before the change occurs, in which you will have 42 days to respond- whether you want to switch or cancel. If you do cancel, they'll cancel on the day you notify them. (Read pg 5, 3.5 Fair terms)

        • -5

My guess was right - I said 1 month when it is 42 days, close enough.

    • +3

You'll stay on your current plan. I'm still on the discontinued live discovery 1 plan. Don't listen to dk slim. His just very bias with live connected. All optus resellers charge the $20 sim fee. Much better deal than tpg.

  • So is this a month to month contract or do we have to stay on it for 6 months min. I am getting conflicting info and they are not answering my questions properly on facebook.

    • +1

Its month to month, no contract and no 6 months min- assuming the same T&C as the last $5 promo.

    • The $20 starter fee pretty much counts for already having been on the plan for 4 months, so no there's no minimum contract.

  • In case people are looking for similar plans with a slightly more reputable company check out TPG mobile.

    http://www.tpg.com.au/mobile/plans.html

    They use the Optus network.
