CameraPro seem to have the best price so far for the preorder. I'm not sure when this price ends.

NO need to rush in, Sony and Nikon will respond.

It will drop 20% in a few months.

    • They always release at a higher price to take advantage of people with G.A.S like myself.

Canon finally coming to their senses, they've been negligent and honestly taking the piss off photographers for years, Sony came in and disrupted them, and now they're reacting. Competition is good.

I like that they are offering adaptors for old EF lenses for early purchasers.

I personally made the switch to Sony never looked back.

Even if people hate Canon, they should love this body. Releasing a FF body at such a low price will push Nikon and Sony to release a real entry level FF at a comparable price.

For all the people who always wanted FF but couldn't afford it, this is a great brand new option.

I've fully switched over to Sony as well but honestly if I had the cash, I'd pickup this with the 35mm RF macro.

      • I sold my 6D and all my Canon glass about 18 months ago and have just been using my little EM10ii since Canon was dragging their heels on innovation so badly. Good to see them finally bring something compelling to the table - this would be a perfect travel landscape or studio camera, and is basically a mirrorless 6D/6Dii

  • Yes - I would hold off as it is only pre-order.

Mind you Camera Pro do sweeten it with a free extension grip and SD card, but because I already have Canon EF lenses for my existing EOS, I would be more tempted by the lens adaptors and they start at $199 on the Canon website and go to $799!!!!

Some of the reviews suggest a relatively short battery life (a lot less when compared with my existing EOS), so Canon are offering an additional battery pack and SD card. The Canon pre-order price is $2099.

Maybe when they bundle a few more things…..

    • seems like a worldwide offer? as B&H also lists the free EF to EOS R mount & the grip extension

what is that? well, I am not touching that until I'm convinced it's worth upgrading from a 6d.

    • It's probably a downgrade

      • the design sucks something ridiculous to say the least

  • Anyone considering getting into a new mirrorless camera system, the Fuji X-T30 was also just announced, looks super compact and there is already a massive line of XF lenses

    • Got an X-T2 a couple of months back, absolutely love it, would highly recommend

  • Is this why all Sony A7 bodies are on sale?

  • Canon recycling a decade old sensor that was surpassed by micro four thirds some time ago:

Not that that's necessarily a bad thing. Hopefully it results in cheaper prices across the board by placing market pressure on manufacturers making competent mirrorless.

If EOS R pissed you off, this new RP will piss you off even more.

Shouldn't be negging based on an opinion of a product (although I do agree with Mr Travel Feels), should be negging if that's not the best price.

  • Now that the first impression videos are out, are people still excited about the RP?

I was looking forward to it the last couple of weeks, but Canon just had to be Canon and crippled the crap out of the camera past the point of being a joke.

Canon know how to make a reliable good lens, but appear to have forgotten a long time ago how to build a good camera with the specs people want at a competitive price.

Lens adapters work great now days and are only getting better with firmware updates, no reason not to jump ship for people invested in Canon glass. Why put up with a sub par product at a much more expensive price than the competition?

    • precisely the reason to stay with DSLR body. no upgrade whatsoever + complications around the adapter. why would I want a mirrorless body from Canon? I am more tempted to sell my super lenses and get some Fujifilm bundle.

  • I’ve just looked at the battery stats on this (RP) and the R… and it makes them very unattractive.

The 6D will get close to 1,000 shots per charge if you minimise the LCD screen usage and just use the view-finder.

The R is rated at 350 shots and the RP at 250. Dwell on the screen for any length of time and suddenly you have a flat battery.
