    Do these Yeelights need a dedicated WiFi base/hub like similar products or does it work out of the box with Android/smart assistants?

      Works out of the box, connects to Xiaomi servers. Download the Yeelight app on your mobile and add the lights through their app, then you can download the Google Home app and link the Yeelight account to use Google Assistant.

      If you're planning on using a lot of smart devices (or hook up your whole place with smart lights), maybe a better option are smart lights that support zigbee, basically creates it's own network for the lights and doesn't put a strain on your other devices on the network.

      I've had no issues with these lights apart from my lousy internet during peak (using 4G Wireless) but I'm only running a couple of these bulbs in my place.

        You can also enable LAN direct access(setting in the app) so that home control systems get direct control. eg Home Assistant etc.

      They work in the Mi Home app, and you can link them to your Google account to control via google assistant.
