Great price. These bulbs are fantastic!

    • +1

do these need anything special to work or just plain old wifi?

      • +3

Just Wi-Fi and the Mi Home App.

Compatible with both Google Home and Amazon Echo.

        • +2

cool - although im more keen on direct home assistant automation.

sucks about the screw base though. almost every lamp and light fitting in our house has bayonet socket

          • +2

@jztilly: I bought a couple of adapters from eBay which worked a treat. Just adds a few cms to it so have to be mindful of that.

            • +1

@Timding: Hey, could I get a link for those adapters you found?
I don't know which one to go and considering you've already tried it, I'll probably try yours :)

              Cheers

          • +2

@jztilly: These work with HomeAssistant. That's how I'm using them. But they have to be registered and setup using the Mi Home app Yeelight app first.

            • +1

              @crikey: thanks guys. ordered 2

i have no idea what to do with them but like most home automation stuff, it's not until you get you're hands on it and see it in action do you come up with use cases. hopefully this one pays off :D

              • +1

@jztilly: I use them to give an impression that someone is at home when we are away. They turn on in the evening go on n off randomly suggesting ppl r moving around the home.
Best use I can think of.

          • +3

@jztilly: I think IKEA sells the adaptors for a few dollars each.

            • @spaceflight: They dont at ikea in springvale melb. Searched…asked..no

            • @spaceflight: No they don't anymore.

              • @Enjj0y: That is annoying.

At least buying them from IKEA there is some quality control and safety that might not be there in eBay ones.

        • +1

Worth mentioning as an FYI that they only work on the 2.4ghz band. I went through many hours of hair pulling out before I figured it out why they weren't working

          • +3

@funk44: This is true of most smart lights. There is no point offering 5Ghz support. There's no benefit in the extra bandwidth and 2.4Ghz has better signal range and penetration through walls and floors.

            • +1

@aldroid: I know all that. I am just offering an FYI to anyone who might only have their 5ghz broadcast on like I did…

        • Mi home app sucks. I use the yeelight app and google home integration.

      • Mi app or yeelight app. Yeelight app is better.

Hey guys newbie here. Anyone knows if this is standard fitting across lamps? E.g I've bought a standing lamp from IKEA and was thinking of getting this to fit in it

    • If it has a screw socket for a bulb, this will fit.

      • As long as its e27 and not e14

    • Should be the standard from IKEA. It's standard in Europe, and most new light fittings you buy these days are Edison screw (E27).
Technically the standard here is Bayonet (B22), but it's only really us and other former British colonies that use it, and is slowly fading out as most things get made for the EU/US/China market.
If it's an older fitting it will likely be B22, if it's newer it's quite likely to be E27.

    • It is standard E27 connector.

    • Just be aware that some IKEA lamps use the slightly smaller E14 screw mount.

    • Thanks for the replies guys will be getting one !

  • Why no smart recessed led down lights? Always bulbs

    • you can get some of these exciting new "Philips Xiaomi" branded downlights:

      https://www.ebay.com.au/p/Xiaomi-Philips-Downlight-Smart-LED…

on a serious note - i'm in the same boat. we've got downlights all through our house and would love some ~10W smart downlights.

      • You missed the lifx deal last week

        • lifx doesn't have GU5.3, do they? I need the GU5.3, not GU10…

      • looks pretty interesting. Would installation be difficult for these or is it a plug & play? Wonder if it also integrates with Google Assistant well..

        • +1

Yep works with g assistant. Have to set up via app

          • @51kabunka: awesome! I have 3 in the kitchen I'd like to be "smart" but might just get 1 to test out first..

Do I need a hub or something to control this or does it come with its own Wifi?

Edit: Also, would I need to have the light switch turned to "on" at all times after installation?

            • @cray: No hub, light switch needs to stay on to use it as a smart light

              • @chansthename: So my current downlight has a driver powering it. So does the xiaomi get powered by the same driver? The wires are also currently connected using a clip so I'm assuming this needs to be removed and the two wires are to be screwed onto the new lights?

                • @cray: I believe that this shouldn't need the driver, but I'd get some advice from someone more knowledgeable.

If what I believe is correct then yes you would need those 2 wires to be used with an e27 screw base.

We put these fittings in during a recent renovation:

      https://www.beaconlighting.com.au/envirolux-glass-front-down…

They fit these Xiaomi Yeelight Bulbs perfectly, and we can replace them ourselves if ever required.

      • interesting! maybe ill grab a couple of those and compare them to our current downlights

hey any chance you could please post a pic of what that fitting looks like with the xiaomi bulb in it?? im just wondering if that flat glass is a part of the CFL globe it comes with or in the fitting itself.

  • Any deals on the Xiaomi Portable Flashlight USB Charger LED Lamp power bank 3350mAh ?

  • Do these work with zigbee Phillips Hue Bridge?

    • As you mentionned the HUE bridge is zigbee and these bulbs are wifi. You don’t need any additional bridge for this, your wifi router will act as the bridge.

    • this and/or lifx, mirabella are wifi operated, not via ZigBee hub like Philips

Chinese Light Bulb. Free microphone inbuilt into every unit for their spying pleasure.

I for one welcome our new Chinese overlords with their social credit system!

    • same as the American ones. Trump is very interested in Fake news.

  • Isn't this the normal price for these? This just reminded me, tho. Another local seller had these for $21 in the last week.

    • And who was that?

    • The other seller was $21, but with $8 shipping - so almost the same price as this anyway

  • +1

Got 2 at start of year. They go alright.

  • +1

Has anyone seen the Yeelight RGB strips?

Haven't seen a decent price on them for quite some time.

    • Also waiting/hoping for this

  • +1

Do they work on the Xiaomi singapore server or only the china server? Anyone tried? (ie my vacuum is on the singapore server)

    • It uses yeelight app

      • ok thanks

    • You can use Mi Home app or Yeelight (or both). For Mi Home I'm on the Singapore server.

    • I've always had mine set to China mainland for all my Xiaomi gear. No issues..

  • Can these work with the Google assistance on Nvidia Shield? Had a look for the Yeelight app on my Nvidia Shield and no luck finding it.

    • Just use the Yeelight app on your mobile for initial setup then add them to the Home Control section of Google Assistant and you're good to go.

  • Got 2! My 2 from Xiaomi AliExpress still hasn't come yet. So might as well get these two now. hehe

  • +1

I have two of these and they are great. Works well with my Google home minis. However there is a small delay between the voice command and the action on the bulb when using Google home.

    • I get the same with my Lifx bulbs/downlights using Google Home/Mini's. usually the lights turn on before Google announces they are on. You get used to it, although I wish it was slightly quicker..

      • Same!

      • It needs to confirm with China that your social credit is high enough to action the command :-)

      • I got around this by retrofitting standard led bulbs and using the light switch.

On a serious note am I the only person that thinks these are a bit of a rip? I got Philips let bulbs last week for 50c each and I cant justify this premium.

  • +1

can someone explain to me why this light needs to connect to a server?

    • +1

So you can control them when you're away from your home without the need for setting up VPN, port forwarding, dynamic DNS service, etc. Believe it or not, most home automation smart devices are cloud connected, you just normally don't have a choice of which servers you connect to.

  • Haven't had much luck with these (Yeelight YLDP06YL model). Got four at the start of last year, and two died in December at around the same time. I would have thought LED bulbs would last longer? Ended up replacing the two faulty ones with Philips Hue to see if they're any better.

    • I haven't had much luck with anything Xiaomi, it all seems to be pretty cheap and nasty. I have dozens of Hue globes, sensors and switches and it's all just worked.

  • According to this https://www.iot-tests.org/2018/11/yeelight-a60-in-the-securi… (different, but similar model) the yeelight app requires pretty much complete access to your phone, far past what it's features need.

So if you are going to buy it, it would be the smart thing to do use a different app.

  • Can i use this on the same Mi Home account as my robot vac? i seem to remember a while ago you needed to use different servers or something

    • Yes. (Set to China Mainland)

  • Does anyone know if the Xaiomi hub from this seller is and AU plug?

  • Have a go with Mirabella Genio brand. It's Australian company and good quality products. You don't need to worry about server, Australian compatible plug etc..

    • I just bought a Genio lightbulb an hour ago from Kmart, do note that the Colour light bulb costs $29 while the ordinary Warm White bulb (dimmable, non colour changing) is $15.

The Tuya-based app is kinda terrible and basic but it does work.

      • What about the colour range? I've noticed that the colour changing light bulb still says "warm white"?

        • I've got both yeelight and mirabella colour and day light (which is dimmable, changeable from day white to warm white, $20). The bulbs are the same, and the apps are ok to me. I refer Mirabella bulb because I wanna support Australian companies and Australian products.

          • @cumeo: Wow ok. If they are the same yeah for sure. Why wouldn’t you get those instead.

          • @cumeo: so does the mirabella colour globe allow you to change the white temp (cool / warm / day)?

      • I did the same but flashed all of mine over to Sonoff-Tasmota.

        • Same. OTA flash.

The aim is not to 'control' them, but automate them.

          • @Magus: I've haven't seen confirmation that with Tasmota loaded you can control colour/brightness via MQTT - can you confirm?

Did you use the Tuya-Convert method?

            Cheers

            • @FrontBottom: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/84087

Have all monochrome bulbs. Can control brightness. Can't do slow transitions. (AFIK)

Yes, Tuya device OTA flash.Have a separate SD for my raspberry. On main SIM have docker versions of HA, Mosquitto, Tasmoadmin, PiHole, Node Red and others.

              • recently added a fan to Pi.
        • Which one flashed : xiaomi or mirabella?

  • How many bulbs would I need for a 3.5m x 4.5m x 2.4m bedroom?

    • As many as you have sockets.

      • +1

4…. If colour is your thing. If using white all the time I would go 2.

I just have them on my bedside tables.

      • +1

I intend to replace my existing gu10 fitting with an e27 oyster and am new to lumens ratings vs older wattage numbers.

I think I'll skip these and wait (hope) for IKEA tradfri bulbs to be released.

        • Thanks for the info. I’ll do the same. Any idea when though ?

    • Out of curiosity how are you planning to set them up? Like what lamps etc are you going to use?

  • Hi OP can we please have a good deal on the Yeelight LED light strip?

  • everytime i see this deal. i always think kanye came out with a range if lights

  • I used them for 3 years without any issues, but I would say this is not the cheapest I seen, when it goes to $20 each I will pull the triger.

  • Planning to get a couple for my new house :)
Can anyone confirm if they still work with Alexa

    • +2

Was working till last night… have to check today, when I get home. 😀

    • +1

been using it for 2 years, no probs, enable Yeelight skill and link the account. Also could directly control from Alexa/Google Home app so Yeelight app is quite unnecessary for me

  • Where's the BAYONET brooo

  • Recently went with the Mirabella Genio from kmart and i'm very happy with them. They work great with tuya app and come in b22 fittings. Plus because it's from kmart if i have run into any issues, returns should be much easier.

  • LIFX !!!

  • 2 packs are out of stock :( tried to buy 6.

    • Hope they come back in stock.. the 1 packs are still in stock
