    • I just kept signing up until my score dropped to bottom end of good, then i stopped got it back to excellent settled on my home loan and now I'm smashing these deals again. Different for everyone but you can probably do 3 or 4

    • Keep in mind, even if your “score” is good, multiple applications IS something some providers look at. If your file is too hot, you’ll be declined some future products, even if you’re paying them all off or have a low combined credit limit.

  • Does the travel credit ever expire?

    • yearly, I am fairly certain.

    • Pretty sure it does each card year

    • Yes, on the card anniversary date.

      • Thanks, I saw that on the terms

    • Question about the travel credit, on all Amex credit, if you book in advance using travel credit and then cancel the card will the booking still be valid?

Currently have Explorer and looking to transfer points and close, because I am applying for a 'mortgage'.

      • +1

Canceling the card would not affect bookings you've already made using the travel credit

  • Where will 100k ff get me?

    • +2

      At least to the airport.

      On serious note, London return.

      • Thank you! That's not bad for a couple hours work applying

  • Damn! if only I could cancel my explorers :/

    • You get nearly 100k velocity points with the explorer. If you signed up with the recent promo.

  • Remember to use a referral from ozbargain! I'm on my phone ATM so can't link the page.

Also, I signed up to this last year. be wary that the $450 travel credit needs to be used in one go, otherwise you forfeit the remainder that is unused.

  • Lol damn I was just about to apply yesterday lucky I didn't!

  • Would the $450 credit expire once I cancel the card?

    • Yes. To use the credit you log in to your account and then access AMEX travel. No card = no travel credit.

  • Remember to use referral links

  • Is it 65k points to Refer? I wanna sign my mum up, so that would be huge!

I can Refer if I have an AMEX EXPLORER? Info above says to refer only the card you have? I thought you can refer anyone and it would be standard across the board?

    Thanks

  • Are people churning and burning these? Or is it a keeper?

    • +1

Keep until April when earn rate decreases

  • I've tried random's or dtox's links, but somehow it goes to a landing page saying error.

Can anyone confirm the links under ultimate is still working?

    • Working all good for me.

Hopes someone uses my referral link haha

    • Sometimes I have issues with the Amex site spitting out errors. Try clearing out the AmEx cookies and see if it helps.

    • Hi Coldkgon. Are you still having issues with referral links?

  • Hey guys silly question…one of the questions in the app asking - Total Value of Assets Owned. …

What does this mean? I have got a property..is it the value of that + savings in my bank account? ..thanks

    • Have not seen this application, but yes. Especially if you are not paying rent, then you need to be consistent in declaring home as asset. Otherwise they might ask you who you are living with, etc.

      • -_- oh really? It's under Finance section..

I just chose Living with parents but I'm getting rent from my investment property…

      • Also I did't get a confirmation email after submitting the app..is this normal?

        • Not normal but you must have got a message on the screen at least.

          • @[Deactivated]: Dayum it says they will get back to me within 5-10 biz days for outcome

            • +1

@sauce2k: Usually you hear nothing and get card in mail in around 5-7 days

            • +1

@sauce2k: My recent application (Westpac Black companion card)

05 Feb: received your application - 5-10 days blah blah
06 Feb: We have a question; call and quote ref
06 Feb: Called and confirmed a data that was already on application; got approved during call
              11 Feb (Monday): card arrived

  • Referral question - I have an Amex through WestPac Altitude bundle so I am eligible for bonus points (?) and could I refer myself ?

    • Yes you are eligible

  • +1

For those who have applied, did Amex ask for evidence of payslips? My mum earns about $10,000 below their minimum but thinking of applying on her behalf if no questions are asked?

    • When I have applied for ones in the past they did.

  • Where does it mention household income requirement, all the references to income I see are personal.

    • Hi Markness. I think you're right re personal income. Sorry for the confusion

  • +1

How does this deal compare to https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/435231?

    • +1

Similar. Depends if you want Qantas or velocity points…

      • +1

This offer allows a referral bonus which the velocity deal doesn't. Worth as much 30,000 additional points depending on the referee's card.

    • anyone has more input to this questions? the deal "100,000 Bonus Velocity Points with The AmEx Velocity Platinum Card ($375 Fee)" is expiring today. Thanks.

  • +2

Thanks for the post. Pretty easy application and approved immediately with no requirement to send any paperwork/proof (probably because already on their system from previous card).

  • I see this for referrer links:

    Qantas Ultimate Card: x or x (87)
    Referrer: 60,000 Qantas Points
Referee: 100,000 Qantas Points after $3,000 Spend + $450 Travel Credit each year

This means that the referrer also gets 60k points?? for each referral?

Can you start referring other folks after sign up? I know my sister would prob want this card too

  • Lol just got a text message asking me to call them to discuss my application… What should I be expecting haha?

  • Sorry I don't get how the referral system works! Can someone please explain in detail?

How can I get referred by a friend or family member?? Do I start the process or do I?

Please be as detailed as possible! Thanks!

    • You can get a referral here using the referrals pages or ask someone you know who has a Qantas Amex card of some sort to refer you.

    • +2

You can get a referral from links on this page. This is how you can do it:

      1. Under the description for this deal, there is a grey box with the heading "Referral Links".

      2. At the bottom of this grey box, there is a link saying "Show 11 More" - click on this link.

      3. Scroll down until you get to the Qantas Ultimate Card (which is the name of this card) and click on the link next to it labelled random - this link will take you to the American Express site.

      4. If the referral has worked, a message will popup on the page on the American Express site saying:

"You have been referred to apply for The Qantas American Express Ultimate Card

Apply through the link on this page so both you and your friend can be rewarded when you're approved. T&Cs apply."

I just want to thank the unknown individual who has made me 30k points richer for using the referral link in the OP.

    • +1

I too would like to thank whoever used my referral! Just used 48k points so to make 30k back is less of a drop in my overall balance!

    • +1

Same here, I'm amazed there are that many OzBargainers without an Amex card already!

      • +1

Same here, thank you to whoever used my code!

        • Thanks to whoever used my code too!

  • +1

Me too. Shame there is no way of knowing who the individual was so you could reward them.

    Such a great scheme!

  • What is the minimum credit limit for this card?

    • 6k from memory

      • Thanks @Mr Jeep - can this credit limit be reduced easily online?

        • Yes

      • I reduced from 15k to now 5k, unsure if you can go lower.

  • Thanks @Mr Jeep - what’s the minimum amount it can be reduced to online?

    • Looks like it will let you request 2k

      • Thanks heaps @Mr Jeep

  • Hey guys silly question - will decreasing credit limit hurt my credit score?

    • Not entirely sure so don't quote me here but I think it doesn't impact your credit score but increases your borrowing capacity. Brokers tell me it's approx. $3 more for every $1 reduction in credit limit.

  • Does anyone know if it would be possible to sign up for this card, and then refer my wife so she can get the 100,000 points as well? We each meet the minimum income required and could make the $3,000 spend on each card. Just wondering if there are restrictions on having multiple cards in the one household.

    • +2

Hi Taako. That approach has worked for me in the past

      • Awesome. Thank you!

    • +2

I have a friend who did exactly just that but went one step further by adding each other as supplementary card holder to the other's main card.

Sometimes AMEX sends out promo of extra 3k QFF points (not a lot but why not since it's free), so max you could get =
      100k + 100k + 30k + 3k + 3k = 236k for the both of you.

      • +1

Also this way you would have more cards to take advantage of special offers especially Vogue and shop small where you can save hundreds.

  • Does anyone know where it says $65k household income? I can only see it saying $65k personal income on the page

    • -1

      Personal income

  • +4

Applied for this on Friday night Saturday morning. Received the card today. Thanks to whoever’s referral link I used. Enjoy the bonus points.

  • Can't seem to add my referral code to the ozbargain page referral code page.

Keep getting this error 'Error: Verification error - wrong format'

    I'm adding 'xxxxxtsJd?CPID=xxxxxxxxx'

The exact way I see it to the end of the URL parameter of http://amex.com.au/refer/ on the page.

Anyone know what i'm doing wrong?

    • Edit.. figured it out.. i was putting the characters after ? into the link (which you aren't meant to).

  • If I don't have and have never had an AMEX card, should I get one first, before devaluation, then get this card? What's the best pure AMEX deal at the moment?

  • this might come in handy. I just accepted an offer to keep Gold status for 80,000 points, now just looking for a CC deal to cover the points cost.

  • I have an existing Amex Qantas card, so not directly eligible for the sign-up perks. However, I received an upgrade offer for this card in the mail, albeit they pared the points to 50k in their invite. Anyone think it's possible to get them to match the 100k as per the new sign-up? And if it's an upgrade invite, you don't need to go through the whole application process again, right, nor raise a credit query if maintaining the same credit limit?

    • I would like to know too..

    • Did you get any extra info regarding the upgrade offer (regarding whether extra credit query is required and whether they are willing to match 100k points)?

  • A couple of questions;
    1. I'm trying to find out if there are any restrictions on the $3,000 minimum spend, eg.. can I pay my rates / electricity bill?
    2. As you book through the AMex website, I'm guessing you can't use points + spend
    3. What about flight upgrades? Can I use my points to upgrade to business?

    • +1

      best to ring them..

  • Will I qualify for the Qantas Club Lounge passes by purchasing a Qantas ticket with the $450 travel credit or must the spend be directly on the Qantas website?

    • Using the Qantas travel credit with the AMEX travel agency service doesn't count.

In the past, some people have posted that purchasing carbon offsets is the cheapest way to trigger the spend required to obtain the lounge passes, but I haven't tried this myself.

      • +1

Sean is right, the purchase to enable the lounge passes needs to be direct with Qantas, not via amex travel.

        • In the past on another deal which was similar to this I managed to purchase 1k points for $20 directly from Qantas which enabled the lounge vouchers… as the spent was with qantas directly and it triggered it. But I recall i had to cough up some random excuse suggesting I was short for a redemption cause they are funny selling them.

  • Uhm, I just got mine and I think I completely misunderstood this deal so need a bit of clarification

The terms brochure says the eligibility for one $450 Qantas Travel Credit is for "each anniversary year"
Does that mean you receive it after 12 months of holding the card?
If that's the case, then this card actually costs $450 at minimum, as the first year has no reimbursement for the annual credit fee

    • I just got mine too, travel credit is there and expires one year from card activation date.

    • The travel credit was available to me upon card activation so I used it. The annual fee then was charged momentarily after :)

  • I have an offer of upgrade my current AMEX Qantas Discovery credit card to this AMEX Qantas Ultimate Card and spend $3,000 on new card in the first 3 months to get 50k Qantas points. Should I go for it or not?

  • Thanks - just applied and received instant approval, surprisingly. No need for proof of income.

  • Still one of the best cards to sign up to in my opinion. Also common for people to downgrade the card once they get the points, spend travel credit and then ask for a pro rata refund on the annual fee…. making the deal even sweeter!

    • Has anyone actually been able to get a pro rata refund? That is particularly awesome if true
