  • Is this even a good price considering the next cpu launch?

  • I wonder what the stock cooler is like, always used noctua till now

I have had both the Wraith Spire and Wraith Prism.

Both perform way better than the Intel stock coolers (I wouldn't even call the intel ones coolers), the Wraith Prism performs a bit better than a Hyper 212 and comes with RGB if you're into that kinda thing.

Wraith Spire isn't as good as the Prism, but still not too bad for standard XFR 2.0 boosting

Great coolers mate, I over clock on the prism no worries.

These aren't your Intel "coolers" these do their job well!

Nice find, however boxing Day sales you could get the 2700X for $400.

With next gen on the verge, you would be crazy to spend more than $300 on this CPU, unless you had some extreme desire, to build a computer that will be out performed, by probably a non overclocked Ryzen 5 3rd generation in a few months. Yes I am speculating, however recent leaks and reports are definitely suggesting something very special for this next gen. So everyone save your money and wait.

    • Will the new AMDs mean new mobos too? Is it better to wait on that as well, or is it still AM4 and no extra features of note?

      • +4

AMD have said they will support AM4 until 2020 so this next release will be AM4, and maybe the next one. So you could buy any AM4 board now and itโ€™ll probably just need a BIOS update to run with the new CPUs.

    • Agreed. These are a great part but if AMD is going to come through with a step change this year, this isn't super value long run. But, that just means they're not worth picking up on a whim as a bargain while you slowly assemble parts. If you need a new rig this week, this CPU is exactly what I'd recommend. It's gaming performance will actually improve as new titles make use of all the threads. It will have as good a useful life as my two 2500Ks, both of which I will finally replace this year. Been loving these oz bargain finds recently!

    • I agree, but this is still a good CPU that'll run what is thrown at it for a long time to come…

"No extra features of note" - sounds like someone has been watching the Nvidia CEO for too long ๐Ÿ˜‚

The have been able to pack so much in to the current die that AM4 still has so much headroom.

It just works. Everything just works.

    • Hah, I stay away from marketing keynotes and prefer the masses of critics and fanbois for info :D

Always wait X months for next product from company Y or Z. Never actually buy anything. Best strategy

Expired or prime exclusive or something? Shows as $392.24 for me.
