Tempting purchase. Kicking myself for not having bought the Evo 860 when there was the Samsung Cashback offer.

    • How much did the price come down to with the cashback?

    • I honestly felt like I was being silly buying as many as I did, now not so much.

      • Considering it was limited to 1 cashback per product per person maybe… I got a 500gb and a 1tb. If it was unrestricted I'd have grabbed a couple of the 1tb.

I bought one of those Evo 860 drives with the cashback offer.. and wow it took a looooooong time to get the cashback. Finally received it yesterday 3 months after I bought the drive.

  • Difference between the QVO and the Evo Series?

    • +3

TLC vs QLC. Expect the QVO to last much shorter

      • Yup, these are definitely going to have a much shorter life span. SSDs that seem odds on to last a little over 5 years for home PCs is something of a joke.

    • +9

Difference: if you write 50GB a day, the QVO will on average last a mere 20 years. The EVO only an brief 40 years. In other words, it may still break, but not because it wears out like many of the regurgitated, hyperbolic reviews imply.

      • +1

User may not explicitly write 50GB a day, but no telling how much the operating system is (page file, hibernation file etc). I think QLC tech is more fitting for a phone than a full-fledged PC.

I bought this same SSD from MSY yesterday for $160, and that is their regular price. Something to consider.

    • +7

Yep, I mentioned this looked like the normal price when this deal was posted yesterday.
Seems these should be a lot cheaper considering the much better EVO is only $30 more.

      • +1

I agree with you, these need to be closer to the $100 mark. The EVO for +$30 is a no brainer unless buying as a less used secondary drive.

    • +4

Good pick up, once you consider local warranty this isn't a deal

    • Umart is $161 on this too!

  • +8

Considering I paid $150+ for 860 Evo, I think 1TB QLC deals should be closer to $100

    • +1

      no more samsung cashback :(

    waiting for a 1tb

    • +4

      this is 1tb

      • ah yeah, 1tb evo

    • +1

      Waiting for 2TB $200.

      • -1

That would be great but I doubt we'll see it soon unless you like to live dangerously with Chinese branded SSDs

        • I'm predicting 2TB $200 by June this year, 860 QVO.

          • +1

@Diji1: Hope so, will replace the hdd in my laptop if it does

          • +3

@Diji1: Yeah 1TB $100, 2TB $200 QVO won't be far away. You're spot on. We're still seeing the new product price.

I would only use these as a secondary drive though. TLC for main drives.

        • -1

like to live dangerously with Chinese branded SSDs

Even the most unreliable non-branded SSDs are more reliable than hard drives. You're living dangerously right now!

    • Weird. It says 500GB in the description but 1TB in title. Maybe an error?

      • +1

If you add to cart, it will say 500gb. Would be an awesome deal if it was 1TB

        • Oh, geez. I've noticed a lot more of that on ebay lately. Very dishonest.

  • I am torn between buying now, or taking the risk that the AUD is going to continue its slide.

    • +2

It looks as though SSDs are still dropping. I would wait if you don’t need it now.

      • Thanks. That's what I am going to do.

      • Waiting for the price drop is always an odd thing with PCs. When the price does drop 'enough' the newer models are out with better performance and they will have a price drop soon too and be closer to the price of the old model. Better wait for that. This can be repeated indefinitely.

The 'hold off' idea is good if you need an item in X months time, then order the bits in X-1 months, as prices (or specs for same $) will be better. IF you need better performance now, find the best price and click buy now saving the hours of looking for the best future deal.

Or become a better haggler. I wanted a $699 camera on the weekend, found the best 'in stock' price in Melb I could find at $619. I went in haggled and walked out with the camera a few minutes later for just $530. I did not post the deal as it was the last one in stock - and it was a haggled deal anyway.
