      Thanks.

  • 8700Ks are this price for 2 less cores? what is going on? ive been out of the cpu price loop since buying a 8700k

    • +5

      intel price jack

8700K have same number of cores (7700K has 2 less).

Talking strictly gaming: 9600K is a better buy unless aiming for high FPS at 1920x1080. You will get minimal improvement for CPU that would be better spent on GPU which will render (huehuehueheu) much more improvement.

      • How does it compare at 1440p and 2160p?

        • +1

It would be GPU bottlenecked mostly in 1440p and 4K.

          • @seriousquokka: so 8700k vs 9700k vs 2700X for 1440p and 2160p gaming and heavy basic multi tasking which one would you go for?

            • @AlienC: Given a strong graphics card, 2700X would be my choice. And X470 mobo can still be used for 3rd gen Ryzen.

    • +3

8700k only has 6 cores, but has hyperthreading. 9700k has 8 cores but no hyperthreading. So 6/12 vs 8/8.

      • +1

        Super weird.

I'd take 2 real cores over 6 fake ones, but no HT on the top of the line i7 is still Super weird.

        • Very true but now they get to try and upsell us to the top top of the line i9 with our beloved hyperthreading enabled

    • 8700K is sort of, end of life so there's less stock. For some enthusiasts as well, since the TIM is thermal paste instead of being soldered, it's an easier CPU to delid (process of removing the internal heat spreader, the metal, from the silicon die beneath) to achieve lower temperatures, so I imagine demand would still be high as well. It also has hyper threading giving it 6 cores and 12 threads versus the 9700K with 8 cores but only 8 threads (no hyper threading).

Idk Ryzen 2700X isn't far off in performance

    • +1

For those wondering the Ryzen 2700X usually goes for around $400 + delivery

    • And Ryzen 7nm is right around the corner. Intel CPU prices might very well drop much lower.

      • Here's hoping!

    • +1

Not really. Single core and gaming wise the i7 wins by 15-25%.

Depends on what you want it for and if you want to pay the premium for Intel.

      • If your gpu is the bottleneck does it really matter? My 2080/1080ti equivalent AMD Radeon VII is kept at 100% usage by my measly Ryzen 2600. Granted it is overclocked and is running on optimised 3200mhz b die ram but still. Unless you are using a 2080ti or higher you really won't see any performance difference in games with a cpu more expensive than $250. My ryzen was only $220.

$644 on amazon, cheaper with cashback?

    Never mind, out of stock
