    .

    • Thanks just updated the title

  • any 13" bargain?

  • Might want to update your title "HP EliteBook 840 G5 Laptop i7-8350U/8GB/256GB SSD/15.6" FHD IPS Touchscreen"
cpu, ssd and screen size all incorrect

Just out of curiosity, why does the box get opened?

    • USED/DISPLAY/2nds/Returns..

    • Often our Sales Rep would show to clients what's in the box and how it runs. Other times client purchase a batch and decided to return them back so the boxes have been opened up. Rest assured all laptops have none to very minimal usage.

      • So it comes with free malware?

        • It comes with the original Windows 10 Pro from HP so it would just have the Windows Defender Antivirus.

@RecomputeAus: I was joking. But ill give you a + for some good informative replies

I actually have this as my work computer, but it has 32GB RAM, and it isn't touchscreen. Overall it's decent.

Good keyboard (although some odd choices around arrow keys and home/pg up area), good specs, large SSD is nice, but lack of USB ports is noticable. Typically have USBC for charging, then 1xUSBA for monitor (or a mouse when away from office), which only leaves 1 for phone/ext HDD.
Getting a proper dock with something like this would be a good idea, or if you can deal with only 2, get a mouse that can connect straight to laptop.
8GB is a bit low these days as well.

  • Thunderbolt?

    • Yes it has 1 Thunderbolt™ (USB Type-C™ connector)

  • Refurbished.
Check the below info from the Webpage.
    Home / Refurbished Laptops / HP EliteBook 840 G5 14" FHD Touch i7-8650U 8GB 512GB SSD

    • Sorry we haven't had the chance to create a new category for New Laptops so we placed it under that but we tagged it with New Open Box on our site. Sorry for the confusion.

  • Thanks - just ordered one after confirmation that it wasn't refurbished.

  • 8gb ram in such a laptop is a sin

  • Rep, is the display the good display (600cd/m2, 72% sRGB, SureView privacy screen) or is it the base display?
Also, is the 8GB Ram soldered in, and is there a spare ram slot?

    • Yep same here, perfect Gf laptop upgrade if there is expandable memory…

    • +1

Hi there, it is a 300 cd/m², 72% sRGB with privacy screen (1920 x 1080). And no the ram is not soldered on. There is an extra slot for it to be upgraded.

      • Does this mean that this is NOT the version that has sureview with 700cd/m2?

        • I don't think the base display has SureView. This one does, and every time I see a SureView display reviewed for this model it is always well reviewed. Maybe the 300 cd/m2 is just what is in the spec but it measures higher under review.

          • @Dontreadthis: Yeah, hard to tell whether this one is the base one or not. Just wanted to get confirmation from store rep that this one has SureView. But thanks for the reply. Tried calling their store several times but didn't answer - probably too busy with calls of similar nature. Cheers.

        • the one i got is FHD with Sureview

  • can you confirm whether the AMD Radeon RX 540 4 GB GDDR5 is 2 GB or 4 GB? Also, are you selling a version with at least 16GB or ram? tempted to buy, but at 8GB ram, that's definitely going to cause a bottleneck for many applications.

    • Hi there, it is an AMD Radeon RX 540 4GB GDDR5. We can upgrade it to 16GB for an extra of $150. We shall add the option on our website for it to be upgradeable.

      • Any chance for a 32gb memory upgrade option?

        • Hi there,

No there is not just the 16gb option

  • Any idea if they've got backlit keyboards? Shows as optional on HP website

    • Hi there, Yes the keyboard is backlit.

  • Does this have HP sure view installed as well?

    • the one i got is FHD with Sureview

  • Wish I needed a new laptop. Good deal

  • What is the weight of this laptop? In other words, how portable is it?

    • Hi there,

      It roughly 1.4kg

  • just ordered but not getting a valid tax invoice, either in your email or via the online account. are you GST registered? how do i get a proper invoice? thanks

    • replying to my own question. they send a dodgy invoice with no ABN etc when you initially order but then give a proper one with the machine

  • Hi there,

I only just came across this and realise i have missed out, any chance you might be getting more stock? was thinking of getting 4…

      Hi there,

Luckily we are getting a new batch in soon for similar pricing as this deal. Just keep an eye on our website for the next couple days.

      • Are the new ones in? it seems as though they are 1595 now and the code is not valid? is this correct?

        • Well apparently Edgar in Fortitude Valley just purchased it for $1595 - according to the ribbon that popped up at the bottom of the screen!

      • Hi There,

        Any new code available? Thanks!

        • I called Recompute and the guy on the phone said there probably won't be a coupon for the laptop

      • Hi Rep,

Will you release another discount code for the new batch?

        • I called them and asked, most likely not

          • @MrChadley: Looks like they released a small batch at a lower price to grab the attention and attract traffic to their website then increased the price…

            • @springmist: yeah but the price is still very good for what you get, shame I missed out on the first batch

            • @springmist: yep, but think its still worth it!

            • @springmist: Hi there,

The first batch we were able to discount it for everyone and was surprised how fast we sold them. We had to get a new batch in but was not able to match the previous price unfortunately.

thought i'd do an update here now that i have the laptop. i was a bit worried about the tax invoice and whether they had oversold stock just to get traffic. went and picked up today from their warehouse and they are a legit operation and nice bunch of guys. the laptop is just amazing. it does have sureview and is brand new. i was lucky to get it at the promo price but can recommend it at the current price. insane value for the specs and build quality.

    • Thanks for the update! But looks like the 2nd batch is also gone. I had one sitting in the cart since Thu waiting for the Rep to response on the discount code and I couldn't go to checkout… missed again.

      • Hi all,

Just got my 16gb version delivered from Recompute today but the wife doesn't like it, still prefer her Lenovo.

this is from the first batch with discount code (2nd batch has no discount code?) total price is 1545 if you still want one you can pick it up from my place (melb south east) or i can repost it to you.

          Hi there,

That is unfortunate to hear. If you like you can send it back to us, and we can do a full refund for you if you like. Please feel free to contact us.

        • Hi there,
I would like to get one but I am in Sydney. Not sure about the payment arrangement…

  • I'm getting a high pitched frequency noise when the brightness level is between 55-90%.

Also, they must've just recently changed the description, but you can read in the comment thread that they confirmed that the GPU was the AMD Radeon RX 540 FOUR(4) GB GDDR4. When I checked mine this morning, it was only the 2Gb version - so different description to product as originally advertised on OzB and also on their site (took a screenshot as proof as well).

When I called up to talk to their rep, he said that "there's no difference between the 2GB and the 4GB" so my only options were to keep it, or send it in to get a refund. Also was told before purchasing that the screen for these laptops were the 700cd/m2 with 72%sRGB. Having doubts about that now as well because the screen is fairly dim and has a yellow tinge to it (that's with Windows 10 night light turned off).

All in all, not a great experience so far and having serious doubts about the machine and the service response to the issues weren't great either.

    • Hi Danzster,

It was a mistake from the first and second batch which we fixed up on our website if we do get a new batch in the near future. We are sorry if that you are having issues. We are glad to do a full refund for you if you are not happy with the laptop. Contact us anytime to sort it out.

      • An email was sent yesterday right after the call to your rep. Still haven't received a response as yet.
