        I don't think he's aware that Gearwrench is an actual brand.

        You can definitely get cheap sets of gear wrenches pretty much anywhere, but I've NEVER seen a 16 piece Gearwrench set available for under $100.

        There's a few large sizes in this set as well. Most sets you buy go up to 19 or 20mm. This set has quite a few larger ones included as well. Great price considering.

            @Spending2Much: 100%. Surprised this isn't getting OzBargained… I pressed the buy trigger almost instantly. Some of the large size rachet spanners in this set are about $40 EACH when you buy them on their own. That's where the real value is in this set. Decent brand and large spanner size.

              @UFO: Probably because they're non reversible spanners, most people who "need" these would know that a reversible spanner will be more useful 95% of the time.

              I get that it's 16pcs but 9mm, 11mm, 18mm, 20mm and 22mm are fairly uncommon sizes.

              Edit:

              It is best to have all sizes at your disposal, but there are cheaper sets of equal quality out there that cover the average punter's use cases.

                @MakingBacon: I disagree mate. The reversing function may save you 2 seconds (I don't find it difficult to flip the spanner over to get the 'reverse' function… it's literally a twist with two fingers), but it's not worth double the price for a single side reverse switch imo.

                This is a great set for the money I reckon.

                  @UFO: Try flipping it over when you have backed a flange bolt or nut out and don't have the clearance to remove the nut/bolt or flip the spanner.

                    @MakingBacon: Yep… I get your point completely. And if you're on the tools all day every day for your employment, I 100% agree with you that its worth the extra money for the flip switch.

                    But for most people reading here, I still reckon double the price for the flip switch isn't worth it, that's all.

                    You mention below that you have a trade discount so I assume you're a pro who uses these suckers every day. But I'm not talking about that, I'm talking about the next step down… very active home user, or other trades where the rachets aren't used every single day but still on a pretty regular basis.

    Just remember guys that these don't have a switch to reverse the ratchet direction. So if you loosen a nut hard up against something else you're going to have major painal trying to get that sucker out.

        No worries mate. With tools I use the "buy once, cry once" mantra. Though depends on how much you will actually use them.

        I personally use SP tools for most of my gear nowadays, but I use my tools daily so I justify the cost there.

          Not if it's wedged up against something and you can't tighten back down to free it. When it happens you'll understand the frustration.

            @Quarn: For most users its not worth paying double for a flip switch. You just need to be aware that for that one off tight spot where you wedge it in somewhere you just need to be more careful. Have a quick Google on flip switch rachets… I know I'd rather spend that difference on other tools!

        That is ridiculously expensive, you can get a much better set with local warranty for half that.

          Your set is nearly $500 for those who don't have a trade discount, but even at $400 for a 32 piece set that's still roughly $200 for an equivalent 16 piece set. Double what OP's set is selling for DELIVERED. I get that a flip switch is handy, but its not worth paying more than double the price of a spanner you can just flip over easily.

        • International warranty on these puppies, I have used it. The retail shops were useless. Went the the importer and honered all warranties. Would buy gearwrench again.

      • Sad Amazon US doesn't stock these. These Australian third party resellers jack up the price 3-5 times on average what you'd get from Amazon US DELIVERED.

        I bought a Gearwrench spanner set a few months ago for $65 from Amazon US. Appears I bought the last set, then the next available one from an Aussie seller was like $259 or something like that, not including shipping. Absolutely disgusting.

    • I've been using the stanley ratcheting ring spanners for years, and have never had this problem. I also have a single 1/2" racheting ring spanner with a switch to reverse the direction - I don't miss it when I'm using the stanley ones.

      This is a far better Gearwrench set imo, yes it's 3x the price but it also 3x more useful with the offset and reverse switch.

  • I want this but I already have stack of old made in au sidchrome from my dad and a full set of Stanley. Not to mention a socket set from that Bunnings deal before Xmas. I should get it as a gift for my father in law. Don't think he would ever use them though.

    It's a bargain for sure.

    But flex head or at least 5 degree kicker is needed, these flat head ratcheting are limited.

      yeah pretty much, no 15 degree offset makes these a pain to use. I would rather pay more for a set with a 15 degree offset and reversing switch.

      • I would guess these are designed with no offset due to the fact that there is no reverse switch. So I agree with you both, these have limited use and offset with reverse switch is the go!

    Great price. Not having a switch to use in opposite direction is an issue but it is overstated IMO. If you are going to be wedged up against something that prevents a nut being removed then you will probably have a problem getting a ring spanner of any description over the threaded bolt you are trying to remove the nut from. However it could be a bolt that you don't know the length of that gets backed into an obstacle. If so it wouldn't take much in the unlikely/infrequent event to use another tool to tighten it enough to remove spanner - if you were game to keep loosening the bolt far enough that it stopped the ring spanner from being removed and reversed in the first place. It's also possible if you've removed the bolt that far that you might be able to turn the bolt with your fingers (if you're lucky). Anyway, yes it's a potential problem not having the switch to reverse but for the home handyman like me it probably won't be a problem 99.99% of the time - and if it is then you'll probably have a solution in your toolkit.

    I have several sets of ratchet spanners. Some have the reversing switch, some are flex head - but some are neither. I keep a set in each of my cars as well as in my garage.

    I ordered a set last time and agree with some of the posters here that while a bargain, the use is a bit more limited given the heads are not offset due to no reversing switch. Still fantastic value, but just be aware before pulling the trigger.
