  I just did a quick search on Google flights, I saw as low as $402 from Sydney to Shanghai, $420-430 non stop. Cheap!

    Yep, we also regularly see even cheaper quite often with Hainan airlines, Tianjin airlines and others (think $300s). But Qantas is generally 'Australia's favourite airline' so a lot of people are happy to pay a bit more for it.

        Yet Qantas's customer service is one of worst I have ever experienced.
        They ignored numberous of my emails on so many occasions despite I being gold tier member.

          @moneytomyway: Join Velocity. Virgin treat gold members very well, platinum even better. Plus it's easier to reach status milestones with Velocity thanks to family pooling.
