Price drop on the Sonos One, as a new "upgraded" version has been released today. New version seems to be upgraded internals only - no difference to sound or features (yet). Amazon only has white in stock. Free delivery for all members (as above $49). Works with Alexa, Google Assistant in beta, supports AirPlay 2.

Edit: Also available at HN for this price in both black and white: https://www.harveynorman.com.au/sonos-one-smart-speaker-blac…

From the product page:

Control Sonos with your voice: start music with your voice from Spotify, Amazon Music, iHeartRadio and TuneIn. Use your voice and the Sonos app to control and manage all your music in one place: dozens of music services including Apple Music, podcasts, radio stations and much more.

Superior sound: Enjoy surprisingly rich, room-filling sound from a smart speaker.

Control any way you want: Sonos One seamlessly syncs voice, app, and touch commands, enabling you to manage music with a single word, tap of the app, or swipe of the speaker.

Complete privacy: An illuminated LED indicator light ensures you always know when your speaker’s microphone is active. Or turned off. Sonos One is designed with extra security — the hard-wire LED connection ensures no one is listening when you want privacy.

Modular: Pair two Sonos Ones together in the same room for instant stereo sound; add a Sub for deep bass. Or pair with your TV’s Playbar or Playbase for epic home theater surround sound. Cannot be stereo paired with other Sonos speakers including Play:1.

  • This one or an Yamaha 108 soundbar with a Google home mini?

    I have nothing yet.

    • Different applications, you cant connect an external input to the sonos (no 3.5 or optical in or bluetooth) so you cant use it as a TV speaker but the sonos has much better sound quality in my opinion.

      • You're right you can't directly connect the Sonos One to your TV but if you have a Sonos Playbar/Beam/Playbase then you can link the One's through that to your TV.

        • The Sonos PlayBar is too expensive :-(

          • @Averell: Yeah I got the Beam. Sound wouldn't be as good as the Playbar or Playbase but I got it because it was the "latest" tech compared to the other 2. It was 20% off bringing it to $480. Pricematched to JB Hifi, used various discounted gift cards, and claimed TRS, bringing it to less than $400.

            • @spiff: Thanks Spiff.
But even that $400 mark is high for me (a Beam + a One = $650+ already)

I thought of having a GoogleHomeMini or an EchoDot, hooked up to a Bluetooth soundbar (like the Yamaha 108 one that I mentioned), so the total cost would only about $250.

      • Thanks.
Do you mean the sound quality of that Sonos One is better than the Yamaha 108?

  • +1

  • only 15% off retail for a superceeded product? yeesh!

    • welcome to Sonos… I guess they get away with it because it looks and sounds identical to generation two, and any possible benefits of the second generation are theoretical future benefits.

      • sorry i got this mixed up with the Play 1. Theres a gen 2 already? Urgh

  • If you don't need the smart features, the Play 1 is $192 at HN
