Shipping is $12 though, which is cheap compared to other sites. But does spoil the deal somewhat given the product is only $30.

    • True. I am looking for one but with the shipping cost throw in think I would be better off elsewhere.

    • Our shipping charges are based on weight. If for example you buy 20 of the drives, shipping to Sydney would remain at $12, making it 60 cents per drive in shipping. You can use the shipping calculator in our site to find costs per QTY per location.

Perhaps if you buy several drives in one transaction, for yourself or with friends, then the deal improves. Cheapest IDE DVD-RW we could see in static ice were at around $49 plus S&H, which is why we thought this is a good deal. (Plus there is a shortage of optical drives in the market at the moment)

If it were based on weight, shouldn't it go up with the more you buy.

        • Yes it should, he is admitting they are b.sing the shipping price for one drive!

          Weight based shipping costs:

Price for one drive = $12
          Price for 20 drives = $12

          HUH?

note this is IDE/PATA, not SATA

    • +1 - It doesn't cost much to get a reasonable computer with SATA.

If anyone is planning on getting one of these I think they should consider buying a new computer instead.

  • Very good pricing!!!

  • There is a shortage of optical drives?

  • -1

IDE/PATA is EOL. Most new motherboards don't include the connection anymore.

    They're just offloading EOL stock.

    • Agree - I'm looking at getting a P8P67 Asus Board and it does not support IDE/PATA at all….

It does have 8 SATA ports (6 of which can be used for DVD drives)

I didn't even know they still sell IDE optical drives. Old stock that no one wants barely cheaper than a new Sata drive is not a bargain. Neg.

Also neg for using this place to offload your stock which you can't get rid of.

As noted above a lot / most new boards don't have a IDE interface. Neg to warn people of problem with product.

  • SATA units are available at the same price… http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=GH22NS50&sp…

Dealer trying to offload obsolete ide stock as a "bargain".

    Neg.
