Surely for someone who's been a member for a decade now, you'd know by now to put the price in the title …

Just an oversight. Don't tar and feather the poor bugger, it is late in the evening.

Looks like a ligit deal. Seems to be a clearance price. Retail is $199. Most retailers sold it for just 20% less than retail.

    • Oops… Ahhh yep that's a little embarassing! 🤭

Highly encourage people to get into the concert recording scene. Good fun

  • I have the tascam version of this and I find invaluable when filming. It is so handy to have a quality audio backup in case something goofs on main mic going into the camera- such as a poor connector, flat battery or some idiot forgot turn it back on between shots. You can hide it in the shot close to the person and you have a top quality backup. Sure you have to add the audio over the video and sync it, but way easier than reshooting.

  • Any good to record acoustic guitar and singer?

    Manual is available here:
    http://www.olympusamerica.com/files/oima_cckb/LS12_LS14_MANU…

It does work with NiMh Batteries.

Maximum file size is 2GB or 4GB, depending on recording format (wav or MP3). Not sure if it starts a new recording when it reaches that capacity.

Anyone got one of these? Does it have good stereo separation with the inbuilt microphones?

  • whats the review on these? i read somewhere they chew batteries.

  • Is it a refurbished or new?
    Thanks

    • These are new.

  • Are these an over kill for class - note taking/singing recording?

    • +1

Overkill probably but at this price its amazing. The mics on the unit are so much better than an phone and in a room where you pushed up the back you will get a far better outcome.

These seem popular if you're broke.

But if you've got the money i'd go the LS-12.

Is this basically the same as a Zoom H1N? Or is a field recorder different?

    • I would also like to get behind this question.

  • Can this be used to record audio for dslr videos with an added lapel mic?

    • That should definitely work however it's definitely going to be bigger and heavier than a wireless transmitter. You would also need to sync it. Lastly someone else mentioned battery life, no idea what it's like but worth bearing in mind Inna longer shoot.

      • Thanks. I bought two. Let's see how they turn out.

      • They say 50 hours on alkaline. That seems pretty good to me, and nor does it shock me given you've got 2x AA.

  • Does anyone have a recommendation for a lav mic to go with this?

I am a total noob, trying to get into videography as just a hobby.

    • Look into the Zoom H1N then.

      • I thought this was a cheaper version that could perform the same function so I bought two already.

        • Two? Way to double down.

For anyone on the fence about this: if you need a recording device get this.

I have used it's predecessor Olympus LS-10 for 9 years now and it hasn't skipped a beat. I record audio of live concerts and I have never had an issue with the product. I personally purchased the LS-12 in this sale as a backup unit in the event my LS-10 does eventually crap itself.
