Qantas seems to require a Qantas AMEX card.

Was available on my Qantas one but not essential card.

    • Didn't show up on my QANTAS Discovery card. Maybe only for Annual fee carrying cards.

      • +1

Can confirm this is not true. I have the Qantas Amex Discovery Card & have just saved the offer on multiple supplementary cards :)

      • Qantas showed up on my Essentials Card.

      • Oh very weird…
Mine is a Qantas Discovery, it's the only one I received this offer on.

    • Shows up on my essential card.

    • Showed on my platinum reserve and plat edge. Also on my supplementary cards.

    • Showed up on my DJs Amex cards

    • Got in Explorer

      • Same, also appeared on my Explorer card.

    • Showed up on my low rate no annual fee card.

    • +2

No, I got it on my Platinum Charge

  • +1

Would Qantas cashback apply when paying taxes on an award redemption?

    • +2

      Yes

    • +2

Any spend billed by qantas.com.au is eligible, even gift cards

      • What about points top up?

    • Had it work when paying change fees in the past, so I'd assume so.

    • Thanks for the links

    • Thanks mate

    • Mvp!

  • +1

$40 back now on Qantas? Used to be $50.

  • +3

Limited to those Hilton locations :(

I’m in Maldives now and thought I could reduce my bill haha

    • Gift card

      • Every hilton I have been to don't sell gift card over counters?

    • +9

In the Maldives & checking OzBargain? Ok you can keep your OzBargain badge…

      • +1

        I’m ozbargainer for life!

  • Lol woot… I'm on qantas ultimate but not offered for the qantas deal..

    • +1

      Overqualified!

      • T. T

  • Manually registered the Qantas offer on my Amex Velocity cards.

  • Got on my plat edge and explorer

  • +1

    Thanks OP!

  • I dont have an Amex card yet. Is there any downside to getting the David Jones card for extra discount during mid season sales?

    • Just the annual fee to note.

    • It's only good if you shop heaps at DJs. The extra discounts eventually become public after a few days, apart from the extra 10% off reduced items at the beginning of the sale.

You do get three points per dollar at major supermarkets and petrol stations though but the best use of points is to use them back at DJs …

Source: ex-DJs staff, with a fee-free DJs Amex card

      • Do all staff get access to the fee-free DJ Amex card?

Real question: Is it worth it to become a DJs employee for a casual shift to get access to it?

        • +2

Yes, but mine's free because I upgraded my Storecard, not because I worked there. I've since resigned, but my DJs Amex is still free as it's a customer one, not a staff one (which they'll either cut off or make you pay for once you've resigned).

And no, not worth becoming a DJs casual employee just to save $99/year on a DJs Amex

  • Does it include Qantas store?

    • I don't think so unfortunately

Only valid for flights that are within or depart from Australia, which are paid for in Australian Dollars.

  • has anyone confirmed if this works for qantas gift cards? and if so, can they be used to pay taxes on award fares?

    • actually, looks like you cant.

Cannot be used for multi-city, Classic Flight Rewards or Points Plus Pay - Flights booking or redeemed for cash or other goods or services such as additional baggage or seat selection.

    • +6

it works for purchasing Gift Cards
but warning - Qantas gift cards are a huge pain in the ass to use

      • +1

whats the caveats? why are they such a pain?

        • From qantas T&Cs:

          • Redeemable for one-way or return Qantas domestic or international flights departing Australia only.

          • Non-refundable, except in certain circumstances including under the Australian Consumer Law.

          • Cannot be used for multi-city, Classic Flight rewards or Points Plus Pay - Flights booking or redeemed for cash or other goods or services such as additional baggage or seat selection.

          • Only one voucher can be redeemed per booking.

Go to https://www.qantas.com/travel/airlines/voucher-terms-conditi… for full T&Cs

          • @kookiexoxo: so you redeem one voucher and use an AMEX to pay the rest? $600+ spend for $80 back?

  • Has anyone tried to book Jetstar only flights through qantas.com? I know it’s possible if you book a QF and a JQ in the same transaction, but can you book just JQ?

    • Last time I tried booking JQ via qantas.com, it just redirects you to complete your booking on jetstar.com

      • +1

Now that I had a bit more time, I tried a dummy JQ booking via the Qantas iPhone app and it took me all the way to the Qantas payment screen, so it could be possible to use the offer with only Jetstar.

        • Interesting! My experience was that I was definitely redirected using the desktop website, so likely mobile access is the way to go to get this deal to work for JQ flights (if they haven't otherwise changed their desktop customer experience in the past 12 months or so)

  • Has anyone had confirmation this works on Qantas hotels?

    • +2

It should not work, as Qantas Hotels is operated by a third party, and the payment system is separate from Qantas.

  • Like this post but don't really like the Amex offers…

  • How about booking car rentals on the Qantas website directly? Any experiences?

  • How would Amex know you followed the terms and conditions for what you bought?

I remember a few years ago there was a similar offer and I purchased gift cards instead of flights and I still got the cash back.

Hotels I feel maybe more obvious so perhaps can't do that (even though I would like to use the offer for an overseas booking with Marriott for example).

  • I got an Amex when they did the free postage from Amazon US, talk about bait and switch.
Any half decent deals are exhausted in the first 2 hours these days.

  • Did Qantas app work for anyone? Purchased via app but no cashback yet. Says Qantas airways on the statement. What others see? Did you get immediate email from Amex?

  • +1

How come I don't have the Adidas offer shown on my "saved to card"? Got an email that said "Adidas Amex Offer is now ready to use".

  • Are purchases from the Qantas online shop for speakers etc eligible as well?

  • Just booked classic flight rewards to New Caledonia and received the confirmation email from Amex.

  • I spent $297 tax for Classic flight rewards. is there anything to spend for $3 to get $40 back?

    • +1

Can you offset the carbon emissions? I think that option is available on all QF flights.

      • 1.1% card surcharge worked. Thank you very much.

  • Has anyone done multiple transactions at different Hilton or Marriott properties to quality for the discount. I spent 200+$ at Marriott Property A then 200$+ at Marriott Property B and 5 days later still no credit. Wondering if their system picks this up as the promo says 'spend $400 or more, in one or more transactions'?

    • Spoke to customer service this morning at Amex via web chat …they claim you must have the total spend at the same hotel you can't do it across multiple Marriott locations …

    • Works for different Hilton hotels

  • I just checked my Amex account. Even though I received the notification email, the credit didn't come through for the Qantas award flights I booked. I guess they have a way to tell they are not paid fares.

    • Can sometimes take 5 days to appear maybe by Monday u will see it?

      • +1

It actually says in the terms and conditions that it can take up to 90 days but yeah five days is usually the norm

        • +1

Oh you’re right. The credit just showed up! Often shows as pending before it posts.

  • +1

Interesting. Spent about $1300 at Hilton in one transaction and received $240 credit in one transaction (3 x $80). Didn't realise the credit applies multiple times even in one transaction.

  • has anyone used the marriot purchase for a gift card? am going overseas and want to book marriot for the us but worried the transaction wont get credit for hotels in the us.
