Pretty top price tbh. I got mine from Kogan for like $500 with some warranty (I should've waited a bit though) and it's probably the best phone I've had so far. Flashed Lineage OS and runs like a well-oiled machine.

I wish it had NFC because it would've been my ultimate phone if it did have NFC, and the Poco F2 will be an insta-buy for me if they keep all these features + smaller notch + NFC as well.

I felt the same way but I only started using NFC and it's really convenient not having to carry my wallet around. I can also use a normal phone case instead of a wallet case.

      • Only one account? No drivers license, medicare, organ donor etc etc??

        • +1

Not at my age nah I guess learners is something but I don't need to carry that when I'm not gonna drive.

        • if your in NSW don't really need drivers license (well in some suburbs, soon to be state wide)
          https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/campaign/digital-driver-licen…

… comeon VIC get your act together.

Medicare typically a photo of it can do in most cases, all they really need in the number most of the time, same with organ donor, when i did mine they said you dont need to keep the card with you're on the register (which is good since it was a crappy low quality card anyway it degrades too quickly)

Only issue of course is with everything on you're phone its hard to identify you, android needs to get inbuilt emergency info function like iPhone does.

    • @SDF05, do you lose any functionality compared with stock ROM if you flash Lineage OS? Do you receive automatic security updates? Thanks.

      • Functionality wise i would say the Stock Camera has some features that the modded Gcam can't get (this is like EIS and stuff which is great on the Stock Camera) but you can also get the Stock Camera (MIUI Camera app) on custom ROMs as well now.

But honestly don't see any features being lost since the firmware is constantly getting updated (i think MIUI just got Wideline support L1 iirc for Netflix and stuff which is easy to flash then you can flash back to LOS or Pixel etc). And much cleaner and faster than MIUI. It's hard to get used to MIUI since i'm using custom ROMs these days so it will be sad for me when Xiaomi closes the door on unlocked bootloaders and stuff (hopefully they don't).

Great phone, great price, thanks OP. I pulled the trigger after wanting one for ages.

(Also, it's been 5 minutes and not a single mouth-breather has mentioned band28 or NFC yet - you guys are slipping…).

      LOL

already have a phone with nfc and band 28 ….. if people want to live without the basics good luck ….nfc isn’t just payments, now it’s also public transport in melbourne …..

    • Cant be bothered i believe haha..jk

  • +12

Pay the extra ~$25 for the 128gb version IMO.

  • +2

    No NFC.

  • No reliable warranty, right? Need a phone for the missus but I'm thinking something with warranty would be better.

    • +4

The seller is located in Hong Kong so the warranty is likely their terms.

    • all products must be sent back to US for warranty

Weird, you would have to send back to US for warranty.

      • +4

Haha.. sarcasm is hard to pick up over the internet, but maybe "US" means like, "send it back to us" as opposed to the country?

    • Consider the lg g7 thinq

The sim card tray will be a big issue , using G6 now for 18 months sim tray broke 2 already(made from plastic), G7 also use plastic tray. So beware. If you never take out the sim and/or SD card it will be fine for you

        • My tray broke and somehow snapped a pin inside, breaking the second sim/microsd slot. Such a pain

          • @crentist: I have gone through that too, i think it is to do with phone get drop on the ground.

I am willing to pay $10 more for metal tray. Plastic is not durable

        At 50% higher cost?!

        • It's 540/550 after code fpr Australian stock with 24 month mamufacturer warranty. If warranty was the issue at hand yes it is a consideration.

  • Which cpu does this have?

    • +1

      Qualcomm Snapdragon 845

Seller with 97.8% feedback isn't great over 23000 sales.. majority of the complaints are that they sell possibly used items and have to be shipped from China instead of advertised as locally available.

    • I bought a phone from them. They said they ran out of stock in Australia, so they shipped it from China using FedEx. It arrived within 10 days, so it's not too bad. The good thing is that I didn't have to pay GST.

  • +3

Bought one 128gb one on last deal from the same seller. Apart from a bit slow shipping cannot complain about the seller. Took 4 days to send. the phone is super fast. Will flash it to lineage soon.

    • Why change os?

      • because MIUI still sucks compared to stock Android.

        • Being genuine. What about it is better? Personally I like removing virtual buttons. I think that's a miui feature

  • Seriously can someone please tell me if it has b28? Will pull the trigger if so.

    • +6

      are you joking?

this has been on Ozbargain so many times its not funny and it always gets a post on how it does not have B28 or NFC….

      • +1

Xiaomi M9 global version has b28 while its standard version doesn't. This one is global version. Now you know why I asked?

Anything that is NOT Apple deserves an upvote. It deserves another upvote for having good specs at a modest price, a cellphone for the proletariat rather than the chardonnay swilling elite who purchase a $2000 phone every year.

    • Which phone do you use comrade?

  • i use an iphone. i wanted to get another good cheap phone to play games on like pokemon. will this be a good choice, i don't know much about anything that isn't apple.

    • This will play Pokemon and other games smoothly.

  • While the appeal of a Snapdragon 845 phone for $400 is undeniable, this phone, with its lack of band 28, NFC and (until recently at least) the widevine DRM protocol, is a bit of a mirage.

The average aussie who wants a Snapdragon 845 would be much better off snapping up a sub-$600 LG G7 (which are becoming more and more common).

The Pocophone also has a huge chin and ugly rounded corners which the G7 mostly avoids.

This phone is awesome. I have nothing but praise for it. And I live in a rural area
