If you're upset at a deal posted on a bargain hunting website, you've got far bigger issues.

      • +3

If you're so lacking in empathy not to understand the problem, you've got far bigger issues.

        • +9

Didn't say I can't understand why they're upset, just saying (in my opinion) it's a stupid reason for being upset.

Maybe I'm a free speech hardliner and your comments trying to censor people upset me. What now? Or do you pick and choose which people's feelings you care about?

          • -3

@HighAndDry: You seem upset over little more than a comment on OB. You seem to be saying that's a stupid reason for being upset.

Your free speech is my toxic wash, and nor have i sought to censor you or anyone else. Ridicule yes, censor no.

            • +7

@[Deactivated]: I'm not actually upset, but as you're pointing out - you pick and choose which feelings you care about. Same here.

              • @HighAndDry: There's no need to be upset.

                Just calm down.

You seem upset over little more than a comment on OB.

And you (and others) seem upset over little more than a post on OB.

Would you object less if they didn't object to the speech entirely, but just objected to it being on this forum or at this point in time?

        • +9

You are upset because you dont hunt ducks. Most people here that doesnt like this deal dont hunt ducks.

I hunt ducks and so does all the 50+ people that upvoted this deal.

We see that duck hunting season is started and want to refresh our equipment for it.

Why you click on here if you dont want to buy this. I didnt click on the last laptop deal cos i didnt want one.

Since the only gun news you see is shootings (duck hunting season doesnt make it to the media) so you associate guns to shootings and negativity only. There are other uses for guns plus this deal is only a ammo belt, a cut em lanyard and a duck inferno. Why you upset?

Please stop with the firearm toxicity.

          • @Bryanalves: You are upset because people posting negative comments don't hunt ducks. Most people here that doen't like these negative comments hunt ducks….ad nauseam

            see what I did there?

          • @Bryanalves: 100+ votes now.

To all the sensitive people in this thread I can only say. You don't like it move along.

It's the same way I felt about the museum post the other day. But I didnt cry about it.

      • +2

That's a bit hypocritical. You were upset by the Islamic Museum deal posted on the weekend.

        • -2

Show me where I was upset?

I've never called for any deal or kind of deal to be banned.

          • +2

            @HighAndDry: "Comment unpublished. (Inflammatory)"
On every single comment you made.

      • Yep, the world would definitely be a much better place if we all had less empathy, and more guns. /s

  • +14

People getting salty because of an ammo belt. Good lord.

    • +7

      Welcome to OzBargain

    • +5

Nope, not for an ammo belt, just the fact that there is pretty much never any deals on gun gear except immediately after a massacre of large numbers of innocent people.

But the point of the OP was not to offer a deal, it was to use the platform of OzB to push Australia to be more partisan and open political and social divides, just like you see in the USA. It seems like it's working.

    • +1

Would you consider a different perspective?
A gunman has just shot and killed innocent people in brutal and genuinely heartless manner less than a week prior to this weapon related deal being posted. The wider community is emotionally charged and have related the incident to gun violence. They are now disgusted with this deal.
Perhaps if the belt was posted at a different time, or a different place, the reaction would have been unnoticeable.

  • -7

It would be nice if people were allowed to legitimately object to guns being promoted here, rather than allowing the noisy minority to effectively censor out neg votes.

    • +4

Minorities can't censor out neg votes as the plus votes will cancel out the negs.

Only majority can censor neg votes. Also most negs here was because they did not agree with guns but this item is not a gun and is 50% off so is a deal. They were negging for invalid reasons.

Also noone is promoting guns here, gun deals are banned as mentioned by the mods.

This deal is a half price belt, a lanyard, and a whistle.

    • +5

It would be nice if people were allowed to legitimately object to guns being promoted here

Nothing stopping people from legitimately objecting to anything. The noisy minority has already managed to have gun deals banned from the site

      • I agree… the noisy minority here are the ones having their negs cancelled out.

It would be nice if people were allowed to legitimately object to guns being promoted here

And get butt hurt about guns all you like, this is not a post for a gun, it’s a belt with some loops on it.

  • +1

Although there's disagreements here, it's all very light in comparison to the US. Can you imagine how heavy, hopeless and draining it would feel reading forums in the US where people passionately believe they need semi-automatic assault rifles for self-defence?! Screw that. Go Oz!

  • Much more challenging to use an air rifle for duck hunting

  • +1

This post reminds me of the gun special that made the OZB front page just after the Las Vegas massacre.

i wouldn’t be so weirded out if it was a frequent front page theme, but it seems to only appear after a global massacre.

anyhow, good luck killing helpless animals and enjoy the meal. But most importantly, thanks for sharing the deal.

    • +2

Isn't your manifesto a bit too soon, itself?

      • just identifying a trend on my fav website mate

        • +3

But aren't you trying to impose your ideology on others, just like the Christchurch shooter. Isn't that a bit insensitive?

          • @[Deactivated]: Seems more like stupidity to me

    • One thing you assume is I posted this because of the mass shooting. But i have stated numerous times that i posted this deal after i went to Gum Emporium and found out about these special as i needed a new ammo belt for duck hunting season.

Ima duck hunter so i need to equip up. The duck season was set long before the shooting so its like shooters fault that the shootings happened a day before the duck hunting season.

If it makes u feel better I planned to go to Gum Emporium mid last week.

      • One thing you assume is I posted this because of the mass shooting.

I didn't read this assumption. MoonlapseVertigo pointed out that these weapon related posts "only appear after a global massacre". In your case, it's true - you've posted shortly after a global massacre.

How could someone shoot an animal and take their life?
Are animals there to be hunted because it is fun? be it ducks, birds, pigs or even fish.

All you hunters , you are taking one's life away how sad it is. Remember, karma is a bitch!!
    Pathetic OP

    • +1

You are in deep denial if you think you have not taken the life of an animal.

      • +1

I have not , not at least on purpose

        • Never slapped a mozzie or sprayed a spider?

        • Do you eat meat?

        • If you have ever travelled in a vehicle for an hour, you have killed dozens, hundreds or more. No quarter acre block house has ever been built that hasn't killed countless animals.

          • @[Deactivated]: That's why I said I haven't killed em on purpose. I might have killed them while driving, but it was not my intention. Jesus, you seriously comparing killing mozzies or any creature without any intention to hunting?

            • +5

@radwick: Oh… so there we have it, some animals are ok to kill, just not others… what’s the line here? Cuteness? Usefulness? Annoyingness? So, I can kill these ones over here, just not those ones over there.

              Lord, spare me.

    • I don't go hunting or own any guns but as a kid I went rabbit shooting on my uncle's farm many times.
It's necessary as they are a pest and it's also good fun as a sport. Spotlighting was perhaps the ultimate fun thing I could think of and a really big treat when I was a kid.
      Really fun.

      • -1

You'll get your karma before you die my friend. mark my words. Every time you suffer from something think of all the animals you killed. for fun?

        • +3

          Nah thats superstitious nonsense.
I was a kid and those rabbits were definitely going to die one way or another. In the bush you have to keep pest levels under control. It's your responsibility as a citizen
You should try it some time. It's dynamic fun and the marksmanship and teamwork never gets boring.
Its good for the country too. Rabbits are an introduced pest species.

          • @King Tightarse: Ok mate, I'll try ;)

            • @radwick: That's the spirit! You'll love it!

              • @King Tightarse: Start off with rabbits?

                • @radwick: Here's a fact sheet:
                  https://www.pestsmart.org.au/pestsmart-factsheet-economic-an…
You will be saving Australia from soil erosion, overgrazing, native species loss and many other problems.
                  Good for you!

                  • +1

@King Tightarse: I agree, @King. Think of hunting feral animals as a job, as your duty and less of a “fun sport” thing than it is something that needs to be done.

I have been to areas and seen what affect feral pigs, wild dogs, rabbits foxes and cats have on the native wildlife and environment. I don’t see culling feral animals as a “sport” and I don’t do it for the “fun”. I do it because it needs to be done.

Do I like doing it? Sure, but not for the killing, but for my contribution towards eradication of invasive pest species.

                    • +2

                      @pegaxs: http://www.rabbitfreeaustralia.com.au/rabbits/the-rabbit-pro…

                      History of rabbits in Australia
Domesticated European rabbits arrived in Australia with the First Fleet. They were introduced for food and wild rabbits were later brought in for hunting. A colony of feral rabbits was reported in Tasmania in 1827 and wild European rabbits were released in Victoria in 1859, and in South Australia shortly after. By 1886 they were found throughout that Victoria and New South Wales – even extending to the Northern Territory by the 1900s. By 1910 feral rabbits were found throughout most of their current range.

By 1920 it is thought there were 10 billion rabbits in Australia. The population is currently estimated to be 200 million.

    • Did you ever wash your hands or take a bath?

      Microbial genocide. Life is life.

      • thanks for your two cents bud, bedtime for ya

        • Hey, I'm not the one intentionally stirring the pot.

If you want to say that life is life, then you should not be the one drawing the line at what is acceptable life.

          Ban autoclaves

          • @PCHammond: I get your point bud.
Just can't live with the fact , people buy guns to shoot animals because it is fun :(

    • Dude, guns can also be used for sports… Skeet shooting is a thing, target shooting is a thing, the Olympics are a thing.

  • +1

Leave the ducks alone….Why not hunt cats instead? Estimates are around 18 million feral cats in Australia which are wiping out native fauna.

    • +3

Lobby the government to start a cat season then ok. Also cat live in suburbs around houses. You wouldn't want hunters hunting cats in that environment.

      • :( then the poor pygmy mountain possum is doomed.

In all seriouness I quite often see my neighbours cat hunting on my property (10 hectares), wish they'd keep it in at night and give the native wildlife a break.

        • +3

I initially read that as your neighbours were going cat hunting on your property. I was thinking "gosh, I hope they asked for permission to hunt on your property".

          • @PCHammond: Lol, thanks I needed a laugh had a sh!t day!
Oh the power of the apostrophe (or lack of)

      • If there was an open season on feral cats and a bounty on them, I would give up my day job to go thin them out.

        • +5

Lots and lots of feral cats on Tasmanian farms devastating wildlife. No foxes there so less competition. Other than the legality of shooting the cats, farmers would let you … no probs. The bandicoots have no chance against the cats.

          From DPIPWE Tas:

"Management Act 2009 allows for cat management actions within prohibited areas including Crown Land, private timber reserves, reserved land and land subject to a conservation covenant under the Nature Conservation Act 2002 and State Forests and Reserves. Cats found in these areas may be trapped, seized or humanely destroyed by managers of that land, or people working on their behalf.

The owner of private land, or people working on their behalf, may trap, seize or humanely destroy a cat found:
on rural land used for primary production relating to livestock, or
on any land further than one km from any residence."

People might find shooting feral cats wrong, but they can tear 30 engangered native animals into pieces in one night.

          • @[Deactivated]: With how hard it is to catch a cat I imagine feral cat hunting would be a more difficult hunt than ducks.

        • If there was an open season on feral cats and a bounty on them…

No open season on any feral, with permission from the land owner you can cull them all year round.

Head up to Qld, they've got a $10 bounty on cat scalps

          • @OzBragain: Oh, nice. I know what I’m doing with the kids this school holidays!

          • @OzBragain: $10 for cat pelts No deal….$30 for wild dog pelts, wonder if there is cash back?

  • I blame Woolworths for bringing out the turducken

      • Hahahaha good point!

    • +2

But duck hunting season started on saturday. This day was planned way before the shootings.

  • +2
    • +3

And that, people, is how you neg vote a deal. :D

      • +7

No its not. Its the same product type (ammo belt) but different brands.

Its like neging a half price john west tuna deal by saying woolies brand is even cheaper. Or if theres a mercedes benz deal for 50k down from 80k but negging it cos a toyota is 30k.

In this situation usually people will post a new deal on the cheap item instead of negging the existing one.

        • -1

          Would you like a tissue?

        • +2

          You're right. I didn't include GST.
          Still cheaper :)

          • +2

@Speckled Jim: Its cheaper cos its not the same product. Why don't you post a separate deal if its so cheap?

Maybe the quality is bad and not aus stock.

            • @Bryanalves:

No its not. Its the same product type (ammo belt) but different brands.

It is the way to neg vote. Compared to the bleeding heart soy boys and government cucks that are negging over hurt feelings. That part is against the neg voting guidelines.

At least Jim went out to find a similar product for cheaper. No one says it has to be the identical item, but close enough that it would fulfill the exact same function. This could even be a better quality item for less price, so it may end up being a better deal. But the point remains, Jim neg voted within the guidelines. They went out and found an item that is near identical and cheaper, not because he was butt hurt over anything firearm related.

              • @pegaxs: I get your point. So can someone neg a john west or serren tuna can deal cos coles has 90c cans?

                • +2

@Bryanalves: Fine with me. There should be more of that, because at least, that is correct usage of the neg vote. It’s all tuna and it’s all from the same ocean.

But negging a deal because someone is a virtual signalling SJW does not fit. Why don’t these same people neg deals on that tuna. It is, after all, killing animals. They are more offended by a belt with loops on it than they are at things that actually matter.

I don’t see these same neggers with their outrage at ammo belts getting all upset over negging deals related to labour and human rights abuse in developing and 3rd world countries. Where is their outrage at things that truly make a difference. No where. It’s because it’s cooler to be outraged with whatever was topical at the moment then to actually be outraged about things that actually matter.

So, if these cotton wool rolled, easily offended bleeding hearts want to neg deals over personal ideals, then get on the ones that really matter, don’t cherry pick their outrage over nonsense things.

Or better still, stick to the sites guidlines and leave personal feelings out of it.

                • +1

@Bryanalves: Come on, I wouldn't do it for food unless it was common knowledge that the two brands were made in the same factory and just the name and packaging differed.

They can call it whatever they like, I'm betting it's made in China. Woven nylon with identical looking plastic buckle.
Cabela "Adjustable upto a 48″ waist" (122cm), AE reckon 135cm length for theirs.

The fast-food enthusiasts might be better off with the cheaper one.

    • Damn it, everyone has wasted there negative votes on all the XXXX's comments, don't have enough to vote you down, your comparing a generic aliexpress belt to cabelas name brand belt with local warranty and support!

guess i'll need to come back later when my votes have been refreshed.

      • +1

OOOhh Cabela put their name on something. They put their name on video games too. Does that mean they made them?
Later tonight I'll find much cheaper alternatives to the other items too. Really blow this "deal" outa the water.

        local warranty and support!

        Not everyone's in Malbourne!

        • -2

But you are ok playing forza, gran turismo or most racing games where they use car brands…. will forza or GT be as good if its 700 generic cars with different colors?

What about playing sport games like fifa or nba with no name randoms and in some street court instead of official stafdiums.

          • @Bryanalves: lol way to miss the point.

There's a difference between slapping a name on something and internal content licensing. Someone makes a tech demo/alpha and shops it around. Cabela bites and with minimal additions it's "their" game.

"Kogan" TVs from OEM Chinese factory. Everything you see on home shopping programmes is a fraction of the price online. But as an OzBer you should already know that.

            Aside from which…

700 generic cars with different colors?

My only motorsport game on Android is still CarX. They go a bit further; you know exactly what they're imitating, the names are pissy and there's like 20 cars. With gameplay that good it doesn't matter. As for my John Howard era xbox, I don't care if they're real cars or not. One of the best was Test Drive Eve of Destruction with BS cars.
