"I just bought these at $148 from Officeworks the other day…"

    not very ozbargainy
    these are 'regularly' under $100
    .

    • +4

Was thinking that through the whole purchase… a mate needed a pair of speakers pretty quickly and had used these before so he was happy to pay $148 being the cheapest in stock at the time.

      • Yeah speed/urgency is often the bargain killer.

      • -1

Next time search staticice.com.au and shopbot.com.au, ask staff to match price. They will generally do it if within the same state and have a physical store, or +shipping for shops that have a physical store in other states. YMMV though

    • +14

Good on him for posting the deal though

      • yep, and I voted as such
        .

        • +2

Buy from JB, return new to Officeworks. Solved

          • @testeagles: Yeah I was going to do exactly this but the location of my mates place takes a fair amount of effort to get it to an officeworks so by the time we drive it out it'll end up costing $20 fuel too lol

  • I bought two sets of these a while ago and they are amazing.
Used them when i had party in the backyard, easily filled the whole backyard with music at around 1/2 volume or so.

The multiple simultaneous inputs are super useful, my parents have it hooked up to the PC and TV in the kitchen

    • Agreed, I use them for my cpu speakers. They're amazing.

      • +19

How do you plug them into your CPU?

        • *desktop cpu. oops.

          • @POSITIVEVIBESONLY: CPU = Central Processing Unit. It's the tiny thin chip inside the computer case that does all the calculations and processing.

Not having a go at you, just informing. :)

      • is the sound from CPU sexy?

      • +7

I use them for my cpu speakers.

        Okay Dad.

      • I plug these into my hard drive

    • +2

why do they have loud speakers, a TV and a PC in the kitchen?

    • +1

I have the same speakers, so just to confirm you can plug a 3.5mm into them, as well as the RCA?
How does it switch between, etc?

      • +1

        There's two 3.5mm inputs, IIRC

        • +1

you mean one that inserts into the R satellite?

        • +1

Yeah, I think that, plus one on the subwoofer

          • @coldogga: In total, theres an RCA and a 3.5mm on the back of the Sub and a 3.5mm on the right Sat speaker.
There is no switching, they're simultaneous inputs, so you can have all three devices running audio at the same time

  • I've bought these at bingLee before at $118 more than 2 years ago and have to say they're really value for money !

  • These are very good speakers. Not as much in the highs but base is great and they are distortion free. For less than $100 it is a steal. These are good as tv speakers too if you don’t mind the non sound bar look of them.

  • +3

After all the hype on these things I found a cheap pair off Gumtree not long ago. They’re ok I guess but they seems to be all treble and bass with no mids. Has anyone figured out anyway to improve them?

    • +4

Improve them? Throw them out and buy non Logitech speakers

      • Yes well lets just say I’m glad I didn’t pay much for them 😉
Thinking about re-selling for what I paid for them.

    • Use an equalizer. Your tv if recent will have control built in.

      • Connected to PC.

        • +1

PCs have equalizers, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8G6E9Zgt54 I did this for my headphones, I wanted more bass. Really easy to do and you can do it per output and they apply windows wide. For Linux you can also do it through ALSA, Mac sorry no idea.

        • +1

If only computers had some way of running programs for certain applications.

          • @magic8ballgag: Seems a bit of a band-aid solution. I was kinda thinking more along the lines of being able to somehow add a couple of speakers with punchier mids to it.

            • @Chickenleg: How so? The job of a computer is to run whatever you wish, so why not extend that to an equalizer? Most decent audio interface drivers include basic software which will do just that by default.

  • +3

Hopefully everyone else can profit instead of me!

I think by posting this deal, no one will be "profiting".

    • Technically yes ;) if someone was in the market for them already they are saving that $50 lol

  • +1

I bought a set of these in July 2011 and they are still going strong. Cost me $198 then.

  • +1

Not a good speaker set, sound is very muffed, also placement are very limited. If u are used to listen to good headphones (even the OEM ones come with most mid to highend mobilephones these day i.e. S8 S9 LG G5 etc…) you will be disappointed.

    • I have them. They are great for general listening and games, but don't expect audiophile quality. Two cons:
      * the tweeters are fake, there is nothing behind the tweeter grille
      * and the amplifier runs warm, even when not playing, so they use a bit of power.

    • I think it depends on the music you listen to & the quality of the file.
For those who listen to mainstream pop/hip hop/electronic (something like this) which is mastered to sound loud & equally loud throughout the whole song (no need for much ampilification or quality components) , and the file is MP3 (which have no information above 15-18khz depending on bitrate), or just stream YouTube music, then I imagine Logitech’s will be sufficient for most people.
What matters most is that you think it sounds good and enjoy your music.

  • I love these speakers! I bought them last week at officeworks for around $115 after price beat but this is a genuinely awesome price!

  • +2

Picked these up myself a few months ago.

If you're looking around for reviews online keep in mind that these speakers were an absolute farce at the original RRP, so most criticism is based on that. At this price, they're practically unbeatable though.

And if you're willing to tinker a bit, you can make them even better.

    http://noaudiophile.com/DSP_Corrections/Logitech_z623.php

    • The review found on the website you provided says they sound awful,
I have better memories of the equivalent Logitech model when I was growing up.

  • I bought these for $98 @jb few years back..still going strong! Very good speaker!!!

  • Are these good TV speakers or is a sound bar a better option?

    • Much better than any sound bar I used. My last one was a $300 worth Samsung soundbar (or maybe LG!) and this thing is so much better

  • Bought these for $80 from Office works a few years ago and can attest to the great value of these. The subwoofer is outstanding for the price and the system can go extremely loud while retaining decent sound quality. If this is for a small 2.1 desktop setup it is perfect. If you are looking for a more audiophile or home theater setup I would suggest looking at some used gear on Gumtree. Definitely some amazing deals for floor standers and 10 inch subs that will blow these away.

Either way, you will be very happy with these!

Edit: Officeworks would most likely price match these lower as they price matched JBhifi when I bought the set.

  • this one got better sound with a little higher price.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/445471

    • Better sound quality but I doubt the little subs can can compete

      • +2

I think the bluetooth will kill most of the sound quality too.

        • speaker with bluetooth function doesn't means u can't connect it with wires!

      • if u compare them with heavy bass only then yes z623 wins, but music is not all about the bass right? Edifier win all others.

        • Does it win the input battle? I believe not. Don't get me wrong those other speakers look super nice and I'm very interested in trying them but maybe when they are cheaper

        • You may be correct. I don't listen as much to music as I watch movies, and I find the logitech to be an excellent choice given its power. I don't know if the THX certification is just a gimmick, but the other THX certified speakers I've listened to was outstanding as well. IIRC it was an altec lansing unit.

As to music, we're no audiophiles, but the missy does stream music to the logitech via chromecast, and she has no complaints. Perhaps it's highly dependent on what one wants from the unit.

    • If you are talking about better sound + higher price I think these Edifier S350db 2.1’s are a better match.

      • -1

better sound + "little" higher price, not triple the price dude!

        • -2

Take into account the Edifier’s price are close to RRP and recently released.
The Z623’s were over $200 RRP when released.

          • @thebadmachine: $97.30 for Z623 right here right now and over $300 for the Edifier S350db 2.1 right here right now, triple the price!
unless u ar traveling back in time, otherwise the released RRP won't matter.

  • Got two pairs of these in my home one I use personally for my computer and bang for buck you're not gonna beat the Bass you get from these. Just pay attention to the sound when turning these up. basically learn the limitations and don't go past.

  • +1

    Upvoted because OP is kind.

  • A solid recommendation at the hundred mark. Mine are 4 years old and going strong.

  • Great speaker. However the power/volume control nob will go first. I started to have problem with my one now

    • +1

I took it apart, blew the dust out from the contact in the switch and they work good as new now. It's a known problem with this model, see vid for fix

      • +1

Sorry, OfTheOverflow. I accidentally negged your comment when i went to like it. < blush >

  • +1

Thanks OP, bought last week but they were happy to refund the difference.

  • Anyone know if these are a lot better than the Z506? I've had them for about 6 or 7 years, but might upgrade to these if they are an improvement.

  • Got $50 JB Hifi Gift Card, bring this down to $47.Is this worth? Was thinking about the R1700Bt at $139 as well

    • Got $50 JB Hifi Gift Card, bring this down to $47.Is this worth?

Was thinking about the R1700Bt at $139 as well

Don't know about the R1700Bt, but glancing at the specs, it looks like it wouldn't be as powerful as the logitech in question. The logitech isn't bluetooth enabled though, but is an excellent all-round system at this price. At $47, it's a steal.

  • Can I price match this at Officeworks?

    • Yes, you should be able to.

    • -1

Officeworks have now match this price, however Harvey Norman have it for $97 that you can now match.

  • Got it during a previous sale, and it's a good unit. Highly recommended at this price.

  • I'm going to be the voice of dissent here.

These speakers aren't as loud as the Logitech 5.1s. They have a lot more bass but the mids and highs are muddier. As a result, I haven't used mine since I bought them.

    Doof doof isn't my focus.

    • these speakers aren't as loud as the Logitech 5.1s.

Of course they're not, they have three less speakers.

      • The 623 has higher watt, larger speakers. So not it's not obvious at all.

        • Which model are you referring to?

          • @magic8ballgag: Logitech X-540
            Total RMS power: 70watts RMS Satellites: 45 watts RMS (2 x 7.4W front, 15.4W center, 2 x 7.4W rear. Subwoofer: 25 watts RMS.
            Total peak power: 140 watts.

            https://www.logitech.com/en-au/product/speaker-system-z623

            • @syousef: The subwoofer is the majority of the z623's total wattage.

              • @magic8ballgag: Um 2x35W = 70W for the z623 satellites and the speakers are larger.
vs 48W for the Z506 satellites.
and 45W for the X-540 satellites.

22-25W isn't a huge difference but clearly the count is more important than the wattage.

            • @syousef:

              Logitech X-540

Lol, you're comparing an in-production and widely available set of speakers to a model that was retired nearly 10 years ago.

I used the X-540s back in the day and still have them somewhere in my garage. They're mediocre at best and get extremely muddy at any decent volume, so that peak output is worthless, just as it is with the Z623.

If you actually want something decent from Logitech go with a Z906 or find an old Z-5500 on Gumtree and pair it with a decent DAC or soundcard.

        • -1

loudness got nothing to do with size and watt, tweeter can produce louder voice with lower watt and much much smaller size then sub.

          • @samelight: See above.

            • -1

@syousef: as i said, loudness got nothing to do with size and watt.
speaker with a larger cone need more power to drive or even the same size cone but with a stronger magent then u will also need more power to drive, but this won't make it sound louder !

    • -1

to be fair, no one buying those for loudness! in a 5m x 5m room its loud enought to make u deaf in full out put.
but u ar right about the mids and highs Z623 sux.

      • I bought them to replace old X-530 speakers as party speakers for my kids' parties, because people were saying how loud the z623 is, and to save wiring up so many satellite speakers. I quickly went back to the X-530s. In fact if I'm trying to please the oldies ("turn it down!") I can, and due to running out of time on one occasion have, run a party with a small $45 bluetooth speaker bought from Parklea. But if I want lots of volume, z623 is actually between that and the X-530s.

        • -1

a $15 cheap amp from ebay will do the trick. if u don't mind the sound quality, loudness is never the issue.

and btw both X-530 and z623 ar not designed for outdoor or house party, in a small room close the door they ar loud enought to make u deaf. if u ar using it as something other then what it designed for, don't complaint when it fails u.

          • @samelight: Mate I've used the X-530s 12 years ago for our wedding ceremony and they were more than loud enough. That hall held about 200.

I'm past the age where music that thumps through your body and turns you death is a thing.

  • I'd give these a pass for gaming (or winning the bass war with your mates if you're in high school), but while its admittedly a little hard to do much better at this price, I'd highly recommend spending an extra $50 or so on something that's going to be significantly better for listening to music if that's what you want to do. Just my 2c.
