    $ 2k for a mobile phone??? What a bargain!

    • +7

      They’re always one gurranteed

    • -6

Seriously! Especially compared to this deal. I mean, I know it’s not Apple, but come on.

    • +1

Don't forget to thank Tim Apple.

  • +4

Can get a dell xps and a lg v40

    • +3

      It’s a samsung

      • -1

Even despite that, if I was in the market for a new phone, and had a choice between this iPhone XS Max or an S10 and a grand, I’d choose the S9 every time. There’s a lot of things I could buy with a grand. I’m saying that even despite being with Apple for about 10 years now. This is ridiculous at this point.

        • +3

You don’t have to buy a max though, I got 2 brand new sealed XR’s for $700 and $750 off gumtree for my wife and I.

          • -1

@[Deactivated]: Yep, I personally use an XR, as do a bunch of others I know, because like I said I've been with Apple for a while now :)

I just don't see the appeal to spend almost 2 grand on a phone like this, just because it's Apple, especially when there are even other Apple options such as the XR, like you pointed out, which are leagues better value for money.

            • @Zazer: Yeah they are great phones.

              • @[Deactivated]: Yep, loving my XR! Kind of wish I'd gone for the XS for the slight price increase (I really miss 3D Touch), but I'm locked onto a plan now so can't really change my mind. Ah well! Maybe next time :)

                • @Zazer: I have gone the phone outright route now and sim only plans, works good when you can get the phones for $500 plus below retail, I wouldn’t t pay another $900 for a xs over my xr even if spread over a plan.

                • -3

@Zazer: 3D touch is being phased out by Apple as mostly pointless when you can just long press for same effect!

                  • +1

@hen dawg: Honestly I thought it wouldn't be that bad if they got the long pressing working well, but it does not work anywhere near as well as 3D Touch did. One of the uses for it which I used everyday was 3D-Touching the keyboard, to move the cursor. And oh my god, I don't even bother with long-pressing anymore, it works 1/20th of the time if I'm lucky. Plus no shortcuts from the home screen, which I had just begun to use more. :/

          • @[Deactivated]: how do you make sure they are not stolen ?

            Worried about this,

            • @dealman: I check serial/imei no's, iCloud lock, have bought heaps off gumtree never had a problem. Sometimes flip to mobile monster.

    • -1

It appears to be a deal for selected groups.

      • -4

If that’s the only argument, then that’s not really a reason. There are plenty of people out there who qualify for those selected groups, and if by the minuscule chance that you don’t know one of them, then there’s an entire community dedicated to finding and getting deals, which has hundreds of eligible users, myself being one of them. All you have to do is ask. I suggest the Classifieds as a good place to start.

        • Not a like for like comparison; by a large margin.

    • +3

      double the storage
      128 is double 512?
      and more RAM
Irrelevant to compare between two completely different OS's. Apple needs a lot less memory in the first place (and has a much faster CPU)

    • Because …..it doesn't work that way !

This deal Tesla Model S Ludicrous Performance for $164000+(https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/441689) got 2818 votes, where as this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/405301 (BMW 320i / 330i Shadow) way less than half price received only 101 votes !

      Why, oh why ?

End of the day, they're both cars !!!

      • Isn’t the Tesla electric? And a lot newer?

      • All those upvotes were serious buyers also….

    • +1

samsung doesnt run ios ….some people are into the apple ecosystem eg lwn mac and i
pad and might use things face time or imessages either with their family or business.

it all comes down to what gives you joy for your money …..

    • +3

If anything it's the Samsung buyers that are fools: they're paying $1000 to have Google collect every single piece of data that it can get it's hands on via Google Android which is then used to cause losses and serve unwanted content to them.

I only paid $200 for that priviledge!

  • -4

    LOL wat

  • -7

Haha people must be stupid to buy this so many other phones that are just as good for less then half this just paying for the Apple branding.

    • +13

Invalid use of a negative vote, just because you don't see value in it, does not mean there aren't others that are looking to buy one.

    • -1

i think people are stupid buying process phones …no band 28 or nfc or global warranty with service centers yet people still buy them.

  • -8

    2K for a phone? Come on guys….

    • +12

Regardless of what you think is a reasonable amount to spend on a phone, this is ~$400 off RRP, therefore making it worthy of being posted as a deal here.

      • +4

I agree. I wouldn’t pay for an expensive car but I can understand there is a bargain for a discount rate. Not sure why people feel the need to comment if they aren’t interested.

    • +2

Do you stand outside Ferrari showrooms and go ….”half a mil for a car?. Cmon guys …..”

  • +2

At this price point, I would go for S10+ than this 2k iphone that has almost same spec as its predecessor.

    • +4

      ios vs android …

like telling people to use linux which is free or pay for windows …..

      depends what you like using.

      • +2

Windows comes pre-installed on most computers, the comparison here is a different OS for $1000 difference.

I'd say that's not exactly the same situation.

  • +2

Worth it for the blue text:P

    • You can save on the cost of text messages! lol

  • That’s actually true when you have a son in NZ, 55c a pop for a green message :)

    • +1

      WhatsApp dad

      • +3

i think whatsapp lost its appeal after facebook book bought them and use your data for profiling and selling ads …..

i’m getting sick of google and facebook tracking …..even with location services turned off google still tracks via radio towers and that can’t be turned off.

        • exactly

      • no thanks, new someone would say that ;)

  • Do check out Huawei P30 before you snap up this bargain.

How is this cheaper than apples retail price?

      64GB vs 512GB only 8x difference

  • +15

some people pay more than this for a bicycle, it’s all relative to what you value , use a lot and gives you pleasure.

it’s the same with wine, whisky, meat, hotels etc …..you spend your money on what gives you pleasure.

im on android as it’s all i can afford, but i don’t get jealous and try to make myself feel good by putting down people that can afford $2000 phones ….

    • +12

no point explaining it to a wall. it's same typical story in every thread. people want to dictate what others buy. Jumping on neg buttons just because deal isn't suitable for their needs.

    • +1

It's fine to post the deal here as it is much cheaper than Apple store price.

However, even with PRINCE10 code (10% off code), these iPhone XS Max phones (even with the discount) have not sold like hot cakes. Based on the the purchase history, 0 purchase 6 hours after this has been posted.

Therefore, for those who feel the need to tell people about cheaper Android deals, don't worry about it. The reality is that people who still haven't purchased an iPhone XS Max yet (but wanting one), they will really think it through thoroughly before purchasing one.

  • Sure, a 20% discount is a good deal but I understand some of the comments here: not everyone follows Apple's product launches and pricing and to see that a phone just shy of $2k gets posted here and is considered a bargain, that's quite something. I really wonder if keeping the prices this high for phones will work for Apple - one could argue that their iPads and iMacs are priced much more reasonably. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a new iPad when my current one dies, for my iPhone I'm not sure though.

    • I wouldn't hesitate to buy a new iPad when my current one dies, for my iPhone I'm not sure though.

The good thing is that Apple still support and sell the iPhone 7, 8 and X models. So you're not forced to buy the latest and greatest if it's outside of your budget, which I understand for most people (on here at least) it would be.

      • This is not a 'budget' question, it's more about Apple's pricing strategy. Their iPhones have gone up in price massively over the years but their (non-Pro) iPads haven't.

        • +3

The latest iPhone XS is the exact same price as the previous X was last year.

Pricing is not an issue, there's many that see value in the goods and don't mind paying a premium for it. Everyone else is welcome to buy something else and don't need to troll or thread spoil.

        • If you stay away from the flagship products Apple has cheaper alternatives, as well. However, I do agree Apple has got greedy. I still have my Apple 6 plus because it is working fine and I don’t use it enough to pay the 2 grand for the latest flagship one. My main usage is my iPad.

          • @try2bhelpful: Also the exchange rate hasn't worked in our favour over the years, the 16GB 3G was apparently US$699 in 2008, the 256GB iPhone 8 US$849. That's actually pretty good for those who live in the US! It's a shame the R is now the budget version of the iPhone with no new 4.7" phone released last year.

            • +2

@bozbargain: Very valid points. The problem is, for me, the budget version would be more than adequate but the irrational bit of me goes, “but I want that one” so I don’t buy either :).

    • It all comes down to bang for buck and what you use most. I’m in your camp from the perspective I have an iPhone 6 Plus and have just upgraded from an iPad mini 4 to an IPad Pro 11”; the bezel and home button was annoying me. I rarely use my phone and spend a lot of time on my iPad, I usually have the phone as a hotspot. The only reason I want to upgrade the phone is a better camera. However, some people use their phones all the time so an expensive phone might be better bang for buck. My few forays into Android have not been stellar. Apple has a better tended ecosystem and if you go to the Apple stores the support is, generally, terrific, e.g. nearly two years down the track, yeah the battery is screwed have this refurbished one as a replacement.

  • Nice, this will go nicely with the crocs deal to complete the look
