        My statement is supported by real statistics — In 2017, there were 6.5 deaths per 1000 in Australia, and in 2007-2017, the average death rate was 6.8 deaths per 1000.

        Where is your so-called "real statistics"? Do I see the total number of Australian deaths in Phuket/Thailand on your suggested links? Do I see the death rate per 1000 visitors? No, I don't.

        This news article reported half a million Australian visitors to Thailand (not just Phuket) with 203 deaths in an unspecified year. The death rate is 0.4 Aussie per 1000. More Aussie still died in Australia than in Thailand.

        I could be missing something, it's happened before, but smartraveller says that the majority of Thailand, and Phuket specifically - where this 'deal' is for, is pretty safe to travel. Exercise a high degree of caution is well below Do not travel.

    Many Aussie lost their lives there.

    Even more lost them at Galipoli.

    I lost my dad in Thailand (Phuket) late last year when I took him on vacation. But that wasn't Thailand's fault. If it's anyone's it's mine.

    The Thai people were very kind to us in response. We saw the true beauty of these people. What they did for us I would never expect from aussies.

    I don't claim to speak for all Thais, but among the ones we met, they are the nicest foreign people I've encountered. The country is beautiful too, provided you can stand the heat and humidity.
