Nokia 7 Plus 64GB/4GB $429 (Click and Collect or + Delivery) @ Harvey Norman

550

I was looking to buy the 7 Plus at JB with their current Nokia 20% off sale but unfortunately they don't stock this model anymore.

This is a great price for Australian stock which is becoming harder to find. Most of the grey imports sell for the same price or more.

Delivery to most capital cities is $7.95

Good fast enough phone with decent battery.

    Link below for past pricing:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/nokia-7-plus

    • Battery is great for light usage, but draws almost a full 10W when you load it up.

Compared to the Nokia 8.1 for only about $100 more at the moment, which draws 4.7W at full load (and out performs); the battery life if you're a gamer or heavy media user will feel poor.

  • I know it's an isolated incident. But still good to be aware

    • +5

I am more worried about the loose type c port. Seems like a common problem for Nokia, numerous reports of it gradually coming loose over a couple of months before stopping charging altogether.

      • I had that happen with mine. Had to send back for repair for my grey import. Without phone for 5 weeks. Other than that it's the best phone I've owned

      • -2

Every single type of mobile USB port is fragile and sucks. They are nowhere near as robust as Apple's lightning port yet all the experts want Apple to change.

        • My apple work phone is the only phone to expirience this issue. All the Androids I've had have all been fine for years.

      • just sent mine back for repair. Charge cable became progressively looser over the last two months then stopped charging.

    • We've got google watching us on every single second anyway, remember what did Edward Snowden say? But i couldn't care less. as long as the phone is not over priced.

      • Only if you use gapps and don't block googles known IP range.
You can even be lazy and 'risk' leaving port 80 & 443 open so you can still use their search engine.

Firewalls on android phones are one of the key things people can do, over apple devices.

Good phone at a reasonable price, but only single SIM.

    • +1

Just bought one a week back, if I read the instructions correctly, you take out the SD micro and you can put an additional SIM in but in a different direction.
I could be wrong, will have to look tonight.

      • this is correct^^^

        • This phone is definitely not dual SIM. I know because I just bought it based off this deal only to find out Harvey Norman version is single SIM only. I am going to try to return but don't like my chances. Anyone want to buy a 7 plus that has never been turned on?

poco killer ….this has nfc and band 28 and australian warranty and charger , poco doesn’t ….now for the negs from the xiaomi fan bois.

    • +2

I'm neither a poco / xiaomi / nokia extremist, but based on the poco having the sd845 you can't really compare it with any midrange sd6xx, sd7xx performance wise and then there is the 6/8gb ram and dual sim.. It really comes down to what features you might need with the phone.. Personally, I can't give up Nfc, but I want the performance from an sd8xx so no poco for me

    • +2

I own the 7 Plus, and I love it, but there's absolutely no comparison between the Snapdragon 6xx in this thing, and the 845 in the devices you mentioned

  • Officeworks has them on clearance. Can't recall the price.

    • Very much doubt they have any stock left now.

  • +10

I have had one of these for about 6 months or so.

It's not a bad phone for the price. The regular updates are great, however there are a few minor issues which many people experience. For me, the main one is every now and then (for a while it was very frequent), wifi decides it does not want to connect. Requires a reboot into safe mode and then another reboot to fix..

Other than that, the lowest brightness setting is pretty bright (there is no difference between 17% and 1% on this phone). Also the edges of screen for me are like bleeding but very consistent around the whole edge.

Otherwise it is for the most part one of the best phones I've ever bought. I have not experienced the faulty charging port, and if you do you can always return it for repairs/etc since it's local stock.

All that aside, it is a great phone, other than the above issues, the only features it lacks for me is water resistance and wireless charging, but not deal breakers. It's a beautiful phone and which is why I also bought one for my wife :)

If you want all the complaints people have (note: vocal minority) check out the /r/nokia7plus subreddit.

    • I just want to add that the quality of the phone is very solid, I have it for 10 months, dropped it many times, didn't even get a small crack on the case or screen. Maybe I should thank the case I have.

      • Agreed, I was probably overly critical in my post, it's a great phone and exceptional value. Same experience here with durability, it's rock solid.

I have had a lot of different phones am a little bit of an enthusiast and this phone sits in the meh category for me. The main things that come to mind for me are:
      1. Screen lottery - Depending on what model screen you get you will either have a white white or a yellow white.
      2. Charging port - Overtime my charging port wore out with moderate usage (charge every night) tried a clean out and it didn't make it any better. Seems to be a common problem.
      3. Software is actually handled by Foxconn and comes with a bunch of Evenwell apps. This phone has bad stutter which made it really hard for me to use even though I really liked everything else about it.

If I was looking for a phone right now I would wait a little bit for a Oneplus 6 eBay deal which should bring it pretty close to this price.

      • +3

7 plus owner here, brought it from JB, had none of those problem yrt, is yours local stock or grey import?

        • Grey import converted to Android One global variant. You can find reports of all these issues online :P The 660 should be plenty powerful to handle the launcher without stuttering but on the 7 plus…

          • +1

@AusNugz: Au stock still has Android 9 at the moment, just a shot in the dark but maybe the problem is because something to do Android one and oversea stock? Heard anyone bought at local and have same problem?

            • @worldpc: Android One = Android 9. It's just branding for a 'clean' build of Android.

            • @worldpc: Yes there was stuff on the forums about China model and reflashing and China andoid one etc etc went with au stock all clean out of the box ….

        • My JB bought one maybe 10 months no problems whatsoever either. It's quick, various apps work really well. Traveled Spain, France, Netherlands and Singapore with world roaming sim just worked everywhere.

    • I have a different phone so my method might not work with yours but what I do when I have problems in connecting with bluetooth is putting the phone airplane mode on and then off again. It seems to free some cache that allows the connection. Try see if it works

  • Yep. I'm cursed. Bought this on the 15th of March when it went down to $459 thinking I bet it goes down further. Outside the 7 day price guarantee as well.
Same thing happened with finally buying a SNES mini :D

Oh well. Super happy with the phone. I highly recommend it.

    • Isn’t this the point of the 28 degrees price protection?

      • Didn't even know that was a thing…
Alas, no price protection on my credit card.

  • Hey OP why the nokia 7 plus. I have one and it's good, just wondering if the newer 6.1, 7.1 etc are better tech?

    • +1

Bought the wife one just before Xmas and it's a very a nice phone.

Operates really quick, has a nice vibrant display and I really like the body being aluminium rather than having a glass back.

    • Also tech wise, both those phones run 3 gig ram and older processors (630 in the 6.1 and 636 in the 7.1) vs 660 in the 7 plus.

Bigger battery in the 7 plus. Also more memory being 64gb vs 32gb in the others.

  • +1

Buy this right now or see price drops on it in the coming weeks… risk it for the proverbial biscuit.

  • +1

Didn't HMD admit that they were sending personal data to China with this exact model?

    • Nokia support app if you use it.

  • No water resistance has ruled this phone out in the past for me.

    • What are you doing with your phone that makes water resistance a necessity?

      • +2

Using it in the rain when there no where to go under cover.

        • So don't get it out when standing in the rain with no shelter? I am genuinely concerned for the human race at times.

          • -2

@GregRust: Hmm …walking down the street in the rain and looking at a phone ….get a life and connect with real people or put phone away so you can hold an umbrella….

          • @GregRust: Not always possible. Often I've had to make urgent calls to my partner or employer in the rain no umbrella in a suburban street for a bus at a bus stop with no shelter. The human race will survive without you worrying for it, so best to focus your attention to things within your realm of control.

    • Yep in this day and age when phones are used for just about everything in our daily lives and are on us nearly 24/7 water resistance should be expected as a minimum.

  • I have had this phone for about 3 weeks so not long, got it at officeworks for a good price.

It has only been 3 weeks but I am so very impressed with the Nokia 7 Plus.

    • build quality is amazing

    • battery life is just wow, i use it often each day and i've never had it go under 50 per cent

    • screen is good

    • fast, decent specs for its price

    • good camera

    • decent looking phone, looks polished and quality, love the copper trim and no bezel screen.

Highly recommended… if you can get it under $400 don't even think twice.

  • +1

Overall great price for great all round mid range phone but there are other options to consider.

Nokia 7.1 at Jb for $359. 3gb ram and Only 32gb though! Camera also not as good.

LG v30+ better value imo but poor front camera and not android one.

    • an update every year hahaha

    • I have the v30+ - only got it about 1 month ago but thinking of changing it.. reasons are:

      • bluetooth - it stutters and skips forward/slows playback with my sony unit in car (known bluetooth issues)
      • the camera is a massive disappointment, i can't take photos of things with a dark background - i have to use my partners Moto G5 to take a photo of a white serial number sticker on a black background. It just wont focus lol
      • No visible performance increase over my old phone the Huawei 3i.

I got it for NFC otherwise would have kept the Huawei. Overall pretty disappointed with the V30+

  • -1

Should I get an iPhone or 5 of these? ;)

    • Can you afford an iPhone or do you need 5 if these ….iPhone 8 if you have the money …

      • Is iPhone 8 the "sweet spot" for iPhone value atm?

  • +1

I have just bought one a week a go, normally I use Motorola G (X) Plus, this is a better phone.

    • Just wondering what model Moto G plus you had. I have a Moto G5 plus 4GB/32GB and a Nokia 6.1 4GB/64GB and I for most part still prefer my older Moto G5 plus. I know it's a weaker lower spec phone than this Nokia 7 Plus, but still bit newer with a QC630 CPU versus the 625 in the Moto, but cat 4 only for Nokia V cat 6 in the Moto G5 plus, same as in this Nokia 7 plus.

I had a feeling when ordering the 6.1 I should have gone for the 7 plus, but that was after all those great deals were over and price went back above $500 last year.

      • +1

It was the G4 Plus (XT1642). Don't get me wrong was a great phone, but a cracked screen and too expensive to repair.

        • Yeah, the Moto G4 Plus was a great phone, it even got the Oreo in the end which was great ( my G5 Plus is stuck on 8.1, after the G4 Plus Moto reduced update support to my dissapointment ).

Because of less update support from Moto I also jumped ship to Nokia for Android One, but I went for the 6.1 and now wished I went for the N7 Plus like you did for the larger 18:9 screen, and just faster performance all round having better cpu/Cat 6 modem and nicer form factor with better ergonomics in hand.

  • -1

Stop comparing this with Poco phone.
A 320dollar Redmi 7 note pro is way better than this if you don't care band28 and NFC like most of people.

    • melbourne public transport system ticketing ….myki … now supports nfc and android, better than plastic card which is a hassle if it has credit and is lost, so nfc isn’t just payments and tracking loyalty points for things like coffee buys which the coffee shop at work does , i think those who don’t need nfc is a minority, at work all my colleagues use electronic payments in the food court and the building coffee shop.

      • Yeah, but if you lose your phone, you are out of luck unless you registered the number.

The ability to transfer the card from phone to phone need the original phone to deregister the number first, before the second phone can activate it.

So card or phone, you have to register your myki if you are worried about losing your card or phone.

      • They're still only two cards dude. As long as we have to carry license, we still need to carry cards, so 2 cards isn't cumbersome.

  • I bought my 7 Plus from Officeworks for $363 when some stores had it on clearance in late Feb.

  • The best deal Nokia is the Nokia 8 with SD835, which you could get grey import for about $300 last year. Not sure about now.
How does SD835 compare with SD660?

    • +1

Nokia 8 is a good phone but at least 18 months old now. It's not going to have much in software updates and support going forward. No Android One either.

      • The Nokia 8 was/is a really nice slick and quick phone, but at only has 5.2" screen ( it does also have capacitive buttons below which makes screen often a bit larger sort of ).

Many people prefer a larger screen with a newer longer aspect ratio.

Also having longer updates on the 7 plus as well as Android One makes some people like it better too ( although I have heard of one rapport of

someone with local Nokia 8 from mobicity running Android One after an OTA update, but cannot verify that ).

I have been tempted to get both of these phones, but having a Nokia 6.1 and my newer Xiaomi Mi A2 makes me resist.

        • how's your a2 going ?

and how much you got it for ?

  • +1

i bought this phone at Boxing Day sale last year. i'm very happy with it. although the screen is not as tough against scratches, but everything else is good. nothing a good screen protector can't fix. i highly recommend this phone.

    • Had any issues with low light photos at all? Camera is supposedly a weak point.

      • I would agree it does struggle with low light photos. The front cam angle is also a little narrow (I was spoiled by my previous Asus phone).
