Sony Alpha A7 III Full Frame Mirrorless Camera (Body Only) $2294.15 + Delivery @ JB Hi-Fi

550

So the Sony A7III was on sale at JBhifi earlier this week for $2294.15. I bought one at that price. After Wednesday, the price gone up to normal (~$2700). However today I check JBhifi website and it shows that the normal price is $2294.15. I am not sure if this is a promotion or it's gonna be the normal price from now on.
Think this is a good price for anyone been waiting for a big price drop to get it.

My second post so please let me know how I can improve it.

Thanks guys

  • my dream camera !

    thank you

  • Got one last week. Bloody great camera. The ergonomics and tech are amazing.

But the profession lens are super expensive!!

    • +2

Most Sony lenses are quite expensive.

However, there are some reasonably priced ones. The only ('reasonably' priced) one I own and can speak to is the 85mm f1.8 which is a fantastic lens.
It's comparable to Sony's much more expensive 85mm 1.4 GM but but costs about $1.4k less (the 1.8 is actually regarded as being sharper but the GM has more appealing bokeh).

There are also quite a few very good lenses from third parties like Sigma and Tamron. And then there's the very good value stuff from the likes of Samyang.

      • +3

        55mm f1.8 also a very good lens.

        • The sonna 55 1.8 is a keeper for sure

      • will you recommend any under $1k?

        • what do you usually shot?

          • @radiochaos: I want to create a channel on YouTube, it is about my travelling or dine out recording. And also, the personal presentation of introducing some technical products.

            • @lihelihe: I would say 16-35mm F4 or 24-70mm F4 would be decent, but don't take my words. I only take pictures, haven't really getting into video recording things.

You can't go wrong with FE5518

    • +1

Well, there are few pretty nice lenses around 1000ish like 55mm f1.8 and 70-200 f4.
Just saying, get a G master if you can afford, expensive af, but can't go wrong with that. Both build and image quality are just enjoyable to use. Recently bought a 70200 gm, love everything about it (besides price tho lol).

      • +1

        you are rich!

      • Do you find it to be too heavy?

        • IT IS HEAVY.
Weight wise, 70200 f4 has a much better handling and weight balancing. After several weeks shooting on this, now I have no problem hand holding it for a while. But still, I always have a monopod hanging on my backpack just in case.
It is indeed painful to hand hold a almost 2kg camera, but that's what you have to pay if you want the extra image quality.

    • If you can squeeze out the $$ to buy the lens, they tend to hold their value unlike the camera bodies. If kept in well condition without marks and all boxes etc remain, it generally holds it's value at around 80% of the new one. That is until the replacement model comes out and lens have very long refresh cycles.

  • I'm sitting on a Canon 5d Mk III at the moment, and it's been flawless for me so far. However, I'm looking lovingly over at the A7 III and its 4k ability…

Is there anyone around who's transitioned from Canon to Sony and can comment on what a lens adapter + existing Canon lenses are like with the A7?

    • The general consensus is its passable but will never be same as native glass.

    • I switched from Canon to Sony. The MC11 from Sigma would be the best converter at this time.

    • I use a A7 with canon FD lenses. No issues at all if you dont mind manual focus.

  • Anyone know if these are in stock? I ordered one for the same price during the sale and was told delivery will only be in May.

    • +1

I went to JBhifi camera on Elizabeth St (Melbourne) to order on Wednesday and they said they expect the delivery somewhere at the end of this week and around the beginning of next week.

    • you can go to any shop like Ted which has stock, and just do price match!

  • Will my pics turn out like the OP's display pic if I buy this camera?

    • Only if you buy 10 in full price.

  • This one or A7r II?

    • +3

A7rII if you wanna print big photos for freeway advertisement.
      A7III for everything else.

    • This one…unless U want the extra resolution

      • The extra cropping power of the a7r series makes all your lens zoom in at 50% zoom with 18megapixels which is a like a virtual upgrade to all your lenses

  • +1

Price of the camera body is only the tip of the iceberg

  • Bought one of these last week.

Was told JB Hifi is no longer going to be stocking high end Sony cameras. So maybe this is basically on run out until they have no more stock.

  • Can confirm that Sony stores will pricematch, for anyone with Amex offer. They ordered stock and arrived within 2 days after ordering. $2294 - 2xAmex offer - $GST(going overseas) = ~$1700.

    • how many cards were they willing to split?

    • What's the amex offer? Might've missed it

  • Price reverted to 3099$ now

  • rougly 2000AUD after GST refund. Damn that's indeed a good price.

Edit : in fact the lowest i've ever seen, even without GST Refund.

    • It's closer to 2100 than 2000, bit misleading there. After TRS, it comes to $2085.89.

The lowest price for this camera was under $2,000 excluding TRS.

  • A6500 or this ?

    • +2

That's like comparing a corolla and a lambo

      • how so? ive seen some of the pictures with both and they do look very similar

        • yeah of course you cannot go wrong with ANY camera in 2019. This is more about format : full frame vs apsc.

There's no crop factor with a full frame camera, they have generally better low light resolution and lower shallow depth of field

Not sure why would anyone go for the a6500 since the price is rather similar. My guess - slightly smaller body, perhaps slightly lighter, and maybe wildlife (you need the extra crop).

    • Different cameras that shouldn't be compared.

      Full frame vs APS-C etc.

I personally went the A6500, wanted something smaller, lighter etc, cheaper lens.

Full frame glass gets expensive and as a mere hobby I didn't want to spend that much money.

  • Do keep eye on samyang e mounts. Reasonable price and excellent value and quality.

  • +1

too bad, I miss this. I have an upcoming holiday on Easter (21 April) and it would be good if there's a place where I can get it for a cheaper price so I can spend more on a better glass that can go with this camera.
