Telstra 2018 iPad Plan: $28/Month for 24 Months with 20GB Data Per Month (And P.O.M) @ Telstra

1600

Greetings everyone, this deal has just gone $1 cheaper per month but with an extra 10GB per month of data! This is due to the changes in the Medium tablet plan now to 20GB per month.

The page that I have linked has old information, however if you click through to the plans page you can see that it is $28 per month for 5GB + 15GB of data!

I discussed on live chat and they mentioned that this should be available to anyone who is taking out a new Tablet plan :)

The order page says:

Special Offers:

Bonus Data - 15GB: Get an additional 15GB of data per month
$10 per month discount For eligible customers
Bonus Data - 5GB: Get an additional 5GB of data per month

Medium Tablet Plan + Apple iPad 32GB Space Grey + Special Offers $28per month $672 min. cost over 24 months

There has been comments in the previous deal mentioning that you can chat with Telstra and try to add a 128gb one instead for $5 more per month, YMMV!

If you go over your data allowance, there are no extra data charges in Australia.

Peace of Mind Data is a new type of backup data, so if you ever run out of your Included Data in a month, you won’t have to pay excess data charges in Australia. If you exceed your included data allowance, your data speed is capped at 1.5Mbps until the end of your bill cycle (which means it is not suitable for HD video or high-speed applications, and means that some web pages, videos, social media content, and files may take longer to load) and slowed further during busy periods. For personal use in a tablet only. Data for use in Australia. FairPlay policy applies.

As always, enjoy :)

Mod: It appears that this deal is no longer obtainable and the link which contained the deal has the page removed. Some mention the deal was supposed to be expired and/or it was supposed to be a companion plan and without POM. You may try your luck on live chat, for those wanting to signup you may like to try live chat to see what you are offered (see comments).

  • What do people think about the iPad Pro 12.9 24 month plan at $85 - $90 pm?
    https://www.telstra.com.au/tablets/tablets-on-a-plan/apple-i…

Works out to be extra $20 pm for 10GB?
Taking into account iPad Pro 12.9 to be around $1500.

    • +1

I got the 11" 64gb for $60 a month on small plan with bonus 5gb (we share data). $9 cheaper than apple over 24mths and bonus data.

      • Hey how did you manage to get small plan for $60? The website says $70 for small and $75 for medium (it was $80 yesterday).

        Cheers

        • On chat, asked for discount.

          • @[Deactivated]: Thanks! Just did that too. I asked late last week and they wouldn’t apply the $10 discount

            • +1

              @Gelato: No worries, it's a great iPad.

    • +5

Unless you really need telstra, the optus bundle for the same price (64gb ipad 12.9) for $85 with 200gb is a better buy. I use the sim in a 4g modem without any issues.

      • what 4G modem you are currently using?

        • Ive been tempted to buy the optus one outright based on a few of the forum posts here and on whirlpool but are just presently using an elcheapo alcatel that I had from one of the post paid sims.

  • +2

    I don't get these plans.

A celluar 32GB iPad from Apple is $669. The price of this is $672. Is the SIM limited to iPads only or can you use it in a modem/external device?

    • This. Would like to know so I can sell the iPad straight up.

    • +6

      Yes its crazy.
Customers sometimes come straight from Apple with these and sign up for our plans. They basically could of received it free via plans like this.

      • +23

        Could have received it*

'Could of' is so painful to read

      • you could tell them to return it apple allow returns for 14 days after purchase

    • Sim to be used in tablets only according to the deal page.

      • Can it be used in any tablet? Sounds a bit vague.

        • it seems to imply any tablet, I am guessing the intention is this is not for use for a phone or as a broadband connection. Seriously tempted, I don't like or want an apple tablet but would get this to put the sim in my tablet and then sell the ipad. Even if I only get $400 for the ipad I come out way ahead as my prepaid sim for my tablet just expired 2 days ago.

          • @gromit: The wifi version sells for ~350. You should be able to get 400 for the cellular version.

          • @gromit: Yeah, can the sim be put in any device?

            • @ashling: The sim is a data only sim which can ideally be used in any device. However you will not be able to use it for making calls or sms.

    • +1

It's partially subsidized by Apple to boost device sales. Meaning that the actual cost for Optus / Telstra to buy in these devices are nowhere near $669.

      • That's a surprise to me. Apple never subsidizes anything. They're as tight as TA.

        • Not to the public, but partner telco's is another matter.

    • +1

it's better to not question the logic and just take it, lulz :D

    • i asked when i purchased, they said no its not locked to device.

  • +1

I would make sure you need an iPad Pro 12.9. That is a high price to pay for an iPad.
Apple has lost the plot with iPads, they are introducing new models every 6 months, iPad Air and Mini just getting a relaunch.
The above iPad is a great little tablet which also supports the pencil.

    • I got the iPad Pro 12.9 for $1000 from Officework a couple of years ago. Its a great tablet.
My wife loves it and had taken ownership of it :-(
      So I need another one.
But the recent iPad Pro 12.9 (& iPhone XS) is so darn expensive!
Not sure if a plan is cheaper alternative than getting one from eBay during the 10-15% site wide sale?

      • +1

You can get IF from apple or even JB, or try and negotiate a discount with Telstra so you are only paying the iPad price over 2 years. I got $10 on a 11" which made it IF over 2 years and free data.

    • Hi. Does the iPad lock with Telstra? Can I use the Sim card on other iPad? Thanks.

      • Unlocked

        • Thanks!

    • ipad pros are meant for a very niche audience. if u’re just using it for note taking and videos + games, its like using a super car to do grocery shopping.
that being said i was dissapponted to see the new ipad mini price was set higher than this model… wth apple :-/

      • Not really. It has quad speakers which gives you stereo in either orientation. The screen is nicer with true tone, lamination, and 120hz for smoother performance. Cameras are better, more storage options. I don't take photos with the iPad much, but I use the selfie cam for facetime/messenger and I can't stand it when the person I'm talking to has a shitty selfie cam.

I'm not a "pro" user at all, but after going from my Pro 9.7 to iPad 2018, I never wanted another non-Pro iPAd. Though I can live with the new Air.

I don't care about the pencil or keyboard support, though those are now being supported by non-Pro models.

that being said i was dissapponted to see the new ipad mini price was set higher than this model… wth apple :-/

New mini uses A12. This one uses A10 which is 2 gens older.

      • I was offered $15 off a month for the iPad Mini through live chat.

  • +1

Is it possible to add a voice plan with this? Or not really

  • -4

This is a companion plan. You need to already have a postpaid service with telstra

  • Can I use this sim in another device other than the iPad supplied by Telstra?

    • Yes. If the other device isn't locked to another network.

  • +1

How is the plan structured? Is there a device payment component and a data plan component? (I am just curious what happens at the end of the 24 months, what the ongoing rate would be for just the data)

    • +1

It would be $29 . Telstra is offsetting the full device payment while connected to the plan.
After 2 years you'll likely be able to repeat same deal with a newer iPad.

    • +1

I got an iPad through an older one of these deals in 2017 and it was split out.

I don't know what the split will be, but it will likely be a way where you won't be able to save money by cancelling early.

      Maybe something like:

      $29 - device
      $29 - plan
      -$29 - discount device/plan bundle

      • Thanks. I was more interested whether it would be a cheap ongoing plan (say a $19 plan with $10 per month discount) after the 24 months as I currently have data share sims. I thought this might be a cheap way to get away from them.

    • +1

yes structured, mine is 19 + 15. incase i terminate the plan, i should pay the balance of device which is (retail price - what you paid for it so far)

say for example you terminated your plan in 6 months, you should pay telstra
      (retail price of the ipad 799 - 15 * 6). ( i got 128gb model)

at 24 months you own the device and you can either continue with current plan or terminate without paying any balance.

  • This looks like theire standard offering now - https://www.telstra.com.au/tablets/tablets-on-a-plan/ipad-9-…

  • +1

i got this error when sign up:
That mobile number isn't eligible. Let's chat to see if we can help. Or see our other iPad plans.

    • Try and live chat instead, they said I was eligible on live chat but I'm getting the same error on the page. Just link that iPad $28 page and they will allow you to progress I believe.

    • -1

It's supposed to be a companion plan. So you need to already be a telstra postpaid customer

      • +2

So this deal doesn't apply to non Telstra customers?

        • Correct… Not sure why not mentioned by OP

  • Would this include access for the Telstra AFL/NRL Live Pass?

    • +1

Should do as all the app does is check the SIM is from Telstra.

  • Solid deal. Comparable to the Optus one posted not long ago. Though Telstra has the superior network.

Edit. This is even better more data and $1 cheaper wow

    • Decision would be based on which unmetered content one would prefer. I'm leaning towards Optus for its unmetered Optus Sports (EPL) and using the SIM in my 4G router.

  • +1

Just spent 25mins on chat with Telstra. No go for the 128GB upgrade for an extra $5. Has anyone else had luck?

    • Yeah, I was on live chat with Telstra and offered the 128GB New iPad on the M plan (20GB) for $34 p/m with POM. I have a post-paid phone with Telstra so this deal is simply the $44 p/m M plan for the 128GB (https://www.telstra.com.au/tablets/tablets-on-a-plan/ipad-9-…) with a $10 p/m discount for existing customer

I couldn't decide between this or Optus $34 p/m for 13GB with data pooling (I have another post-paid phone on Optus), so she's calling me back tomorrow when I've decided.

  • +1

$10 per month discount For eligible customers

Who is an eligible customer? Thanks.

    • Someone with an existing Telstra (likely postpaid) service. Not sure why OP didn't mention this.

  • +2

    "That mobile number isn't eligible"
Connected to live chat, they have no idea about this offer and say that it expired on 27/01/2019

    • +2

Yeah - I'm getting that as well. All they seem to know about is the one I linked to above..

    • Link them to this page instead of the main link.

  • Just got off with Live Chat and signed up for the plan. They didn't allow me to get $28 p.m deal, but instead $29 p.m and apparently got another 5GB of Data (not sure if it's a typo)

Michelle: That is because what you are seeing is the standard terms and conditions. The 15 gb is promotional offer
But this is what you will be getting 10 + 15 gb of data for $29 for ipad 9.7, additional $5 for the 128 gb

    • If you show the website, they will honour the $28p.m deal.

  • +1

Do they really offer POM, it doesn't say anywhere that it has POM

  • Does cash rewards apply to this or is it for mobile phone's only?

  • +1

can you use Telstra Air with this?

  • Successfully signed up for 32gb at $28 per month with Peace of Mind data. Was offered the 128gb at $34 per month but couldn’t justify it.

    • how did you do that? I got "That mobile number isn't eligible"

      • Sorry I should say it was on live chat. I got disconnected in my first chat thankfully as the 2nd guy was much better!

        • +1

you mean the 2nd guy helped you to make the order? I was clearly rejected by the online chat guy.

          • @lee3star: Well the first guy was taking 2-3 minutes to reply to any message so it was painstaking to get to any answer. Before I could start negotiating it disconnected. 2nd bloke was really prompt and made it painless.

    • are you an existing Telstra customer? cheers

      • Yeah post paid Telstra customer

  • +3

the links works until you get "That mobile number isn't eligible", then telstra online chat says "that offer actually ended already." and "You can have the iPad with 20GB for $38 per month only."

    • Did you link the page that says $28 per month or the link in the OP in live chat? Try a different live chat consultant if the first one failed also.

      • yeah, I gave the link https://onlineshop.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/plans/buy/ts… and the guy asked me "And can you give me the link right before you click Buy now? Coz the link that ou are giving me is when you already clicked the buy now option."

        • -1

Try a different consultant then, mine said it was fine without an issue first time, and users above are being successful also.

        • I just signed up to it 1 hour ago. had no problems, got "that mobile number isn't eligible" initially but clicked retry and it proceeded on and completed my order. maybe they will come back to me and cancel after the fact if it has already expired, if so I will just go with the optus deal instead.

  • Is 20G data pooled with other mobile services in the same account?

    • No, Telstra ended data-sharing for personal accounts a while ago :(

  • So how can you use the sim card if its not a cellular model? i must be missing somthing

    • It is a cellular model.

      • +1

oh crap, thats amazing value then! thanks

  • Just spoke to Telstra Chat and they gave me 128gb iPad on medium plan. So 5gb data plus 15gb bonus data. Was $44 per month but discount of $10 brings it back to $34 per month. Pretty happy with that!

  • They just told me: "Apparantly that offer was ended 01/04/2019 Fred, but we do have another plans that is available for you."

    • I think for me I was firm with them and they gave me a general $10 per month discount.

  • All sorted via the link in OP, got through the checkout without issues and got the confirmation email which shows it as a $38 plan with a $10 a month discount and an extra 15 + 5 GB of data.

    • For the 32gb version?

      • Yep!

        • Did you also get Peace of Mind Data?

          • @zacsg1: I don't think so no. Wasn't super important to me, 20gb is heaps for what I want.

  • Can someone link which ipad this is?

    Thanks

  • Even after i sent them the link they said the best they could do was $38 per month over 24 months…

    • Worked for me using this link.
