You can also trial the free iPad app, before purchasing. Looks good and a low cost remote desktop solution, giving it a go.

thank you for sharing. downloaded and installed, actually using it to post this comment right now. Very nice and useful

  • cool i can see what the kids are up to on the computer now

  • this is over wifi only right?

    • +1

no, works remotely if you open ports on your router, posting this reply remotely via app on iPad.

here is a direct link for the desktop client: http://remotedl.splashtop.com/download/SplashtopRemote_Win_v…

  • thanks, works great!!

  • Splashtop Remote Desktop app works on:

    • iPad - all versions
    • iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS - with iOS 3.2 or later
    • iPod touch - 3rd generation or later with iOS 3.2 or later
    • Android phone & pad - Android 2.2 or later is recommended
    • HP Palm Pre 2 & Pre Plus phones – with webOS 2.1

Darn.. looks like my iPhone 3G is seriously obsolute

Anyone how this compares to Logmein?

    • +1

I can ask the same for Teamviewer. Any big differences? Teamviewer is free too

    • +1

I'm curious too - I bought Logmein Ignition (hefty price for an app) so I'm requiring reassurance that this isn't as good :D

LOL!I wish I could help, $30 is a mighty expensive app!…..There is a lot of discussion about this exact question over the web, with seemly no clear winner in terms of features or functionality. Most seem to report that Splash is by far the fastest.

Why don't you get it for $2.50 and let is know?!! :)

  • This is a brilliant app. I got this in my ipad. Terrific when you're lazy and don't wanna get out of bed.

Just out of curiosity…why is this tagged with justin bieber???

      An astute reader!

  • the ipad app is awesome. way faster than all other vnc clients, and allows for video and gaming, which others are too slow for.

  • Installed.
    Works on Samsung Galaxy Tab.

got the trial version on android (phone) - trial version cuts off after 5 min.
Want to get the full version but one drawback for me.
if i am downstairs with my phone and my laptop is upstairs, my phone doesnt locate the laptop. too far?

    • Brought Splashtop today and it worked brilliantly on iPad2 and iPhone4. Little configuration and you can create your own password. I particularly like the ability to use touch screen functionality on the iPad which a lot of free/paid softwares do not have (including VLC etc). Can't go wrong with $2.49!

    • You can increase the signal of your WiFi router by using an RF Power Amplifier, that should give you the range, there are also other techniques that can be used but an amplifier is simple an very effective.

      • mike123, i had the same problem and even with the amplifier installed, the walls are too thick to get through. Now, I use a Powerline Homeplug (from Netcomm NP201AV) with a wifi router on the other end and it worked nicely (wired & wifi). The technology uses your home electrical wiring to transmit data without the need to further wiring. Good luck.

  • Haven't used a good VNC client for my iPad yet.. This sounds great.
Reviews are very good, and the price is definitely right.
    Thanks heaps! :)

  • Just another thing to add - Splashtop Remote Touchpad is also free today!
it basically mimics keyboard/mouse - useful for a home theatre computer.

And for those interested in just using your PC browser on iPad - SR Browser is free too!

  • Downloaded! Just not sure how l can type in my response on my iPhone yet - any ideas?

  • You can't run fullscreen software with this, so most games wont work, unless you can run them in windowed mode. I just tried plants vs zombies in windowed mode on my iPad and while it works and looks ok it is not really responsive enough to be enjoyable. I bought it but I am not sure what I will use it for.

  • I installed it on my 27 inch iMac, but it's kind of pointless since it won't support the native 2560 x 1440 resolution. The commands work ok, but you're flying blind as the iPhone screen is just black. Using 1024 x 768 it works fine, but also changes the resolution on the computer, which screws up all my windows.

After poking around on the website, I actually found that the trackpad version of their app is also free (Splashpad Touchpad). I installed it and that's actually more what I was looking for anyhow. I just wanted full mouse/keyboard controls.

  • I actually bought this for my iPad without actually testing it out.

Please correct me I'm wrong bit this is not a VNC solution. I use iTeleport but I thought I'd try this solution.

This does not work well if you have dual monitors. It chooses the primary one and you cannot flick back and forth.

You are also forced to install their desktop application and my preference is to use a standard such as VNC. Please feel free to let me know if there is a VNC option.

    Regards
    Daniel

    • actually it does work with dual monitors. use three finger tap to bring up options, and click the monitor swap button. i think its the second one. alternatively just shake the ipad and it switches.

Now $1.19 seems the bargain has gone.

  • This is an awesome Remote Desktop client, and easily the fastest one out there.

This is because as mentioned before, you need to run a proprietary server app on your machine. It doesn't use Remote Desktop or VNC. But it runs a hell of a lot faster because of it.

This is the first remote desktop app I've played that's capable of streaming live video and games. It's a little choppy, but remarkably quick.

There's a great video on Touch Arcade of someone using Splashtop on his iPad to play World of Warcraft, whilst using Joypad app as a controller on his iPhone.

Definitely worth a buck or two, even if the bargain is over.

There's also a Splashtop remote touchpad app that was free during this promotion too, but unfortunately they don't work together. (using Splashtop on iPad, touchpad on iPhone). I'm hoping they'll patch that in soon.
