    Officeworks price match?

    • Good point, however couldn’t find the 2TB version on their website.

Heads up, WD have a terrible record when it comes to security with their NAS devices.

    https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/western-digit…

My MyBook Live (the model before this one) has collected dust for years because WD never patched known exploits.

  • Would this work well as a streaming HVEC 4K movie server? Also Linux distros

    • They have Plex built into them. Works quite well.

      • They don't have Plex built in do they?

        • Yeah, it's built in. I use it daily on mine.

  • The 4tb version says raid 1 so 2 x 4tb drives are inside

      Definitely only 2x2tb

      From WD website:

      My Cloud Home Capacities
      2TB - 8TB

My Cloud Home Duo Capacities *
      4TB    (2x 2TB drives. 1.96TB usable capacity)
      6TB    (2x 3TB drives. 2.95TB usable capacity)
      8TB    (2x 4TB drives. 3.9TB usable capacity)
      12TB  (2x 6TB drives. 5.9TB usable capacity)
      16TB  (2x 8TB drives. 7.9TB usable capacity)
      20TB  (2x 10TB drives. 9.9TB usable capacity)

*Usable capacity per drive in default RAID 1. User may modify settings to utilize full capacity.

I just think they should have added that in their listing to avoid confusion.

That 4TB is a load of crap. It's no 4TB drive. If it was 2 x 2TB making 4TB then that would be RAID 0 but this is 2TB drives in RAID 1 which means only 2TB of data can be stored with the second hard drive mirroring the first. How do they get away with marketing it as a 4TB hard drive?. It's only 2TB of storage capacity. Blatant false marketing.

This is essentially the equivalent of a 2TB storage drive. There's no drive with 4TB of capacity.

  • This product is awful. everything about it is shit, the bundled software is shit and is basically shareware, the mobile apps lack basic integration options and are clunky.

You can't back up the device natively.

Seriously just don't, if you want a NAS buy a decent one, if you want a cloud, look at nextcloud and whatever hardware you have/want.

WD customer support is likewise terrible.
