  • Anyone know if these can be grouped with GH speakers yet?
My gen 1 can't but it's meant to be a new feature so I'll upgrade if it's a version issue.

  • I was looking for one of these. Thanks

  • Would Officeworks price match this if a coupon code is used?

      Usually not

  • Bing Lee doesn't have any stores in Victoria, so no C&C if you live south of the Murray. You'll have to pay $6 postage.

In all seriousness, why would anyone buy Chromecast any more? Vodafone TV is slightly more expensive, but has way more functionality, whilst still having Chromcast built in. I just don’t get it.

can you control the Vodafone outright with your phone therefore doing away with the remote ? 4 remotes in my lounge at the moment and counting.

      What are the additional functions?

I just had a quick look and couldn't see the benefits

      • I'd love to see a comparison also. I have a few Chromecasts, but no android tv (yet). Was thinking about getting a Foxtel box with the NBN deal once it comes through, since my set top box is D.Smith garbage. I do have APple TV 4g though, so maybe don't need android box too?

I don't have a Vodafone TV but it seems to be a standard Android TV box which I am familiar with.

It's basically the Android equivalent of an Apple TV. Can load apps, which need to be Android TV apps, not just any Android app as well as being a chromecast device. For my family, playing a native app on the Android TV, like youtube, kodi, iView, etc beats casting from a phone.

The downside is that you will add an extra remote to your collection but there is an Android TV remote app from Google that does everything the remote does and more if you really hate remotes.

          • @potus: I have a dumb TV, so was looking also to upgrade the free to air aspect. Interesting section of the SMH article:

The ability to watch free-to-air broadcasts is the final piece of the puzzle, thanks to an RF aerial input on the back (but no RF output for running the aerial through to your television).

Vodafone's free-to-air app is very basic and, like Telstra and Foxtel's boxes, it lacks the ability to pause, rewind or record live broadcasts. The onscreen guide isn't as impressive as Telstra's, but Vodafone's efforts are still an improvement on Foxtel's clunky free-to-air options.

            • @AlexG:

The Live Channels app was updated in July last year, it can record now.

But it looks like the EPG is only … next and now. Which doesn't make it very useful for most people!

I had a CC but gave it away to my friend. Now I have Mi Box and Vodafone tv.

What I like with Android TV with CC buitin

        1) can install other apps like Kodi. A huge plus

        2) in case of Vodafone tv, dedicated remote with numeric pad. Easy when you have to lock some sections of Kodi (like video add-ons which normally have copyright issues). Entering Numeric passwords is a breeze.

        3) these tv boxes can be connected to Bluetooth headphones which CC can't do. Highly desirable when watching movies and don't want to bother others.

I haven't faced any issues with casting yet. Probably I am using limited streams or types of streams.

    • The Vodafone TV casting ability seems to be slightly buggy compared to the real thing (for example, losing audio sync when casting with Kayo). I have both a Chromecast Ultra and two Vodafone TVs and was able to replicate the bug.

  • Can I cast any contents to chromecast through iphone/ipad? Google Home just can cast few apps.

  • here's another one. Can I record Foxtel Play ? Thinking I'd love to record my motogp races straight from foxtel, as on demand doesnt have them until later that night. Also hate FTA's telecast when they cut for commercials mid race.

  • Waiting for a deal on the 4K version.
    Q. What's the cheapest price seen recently??
    A. Doesn't seem to vary much from @$80, though GG had it for $71.20

  • I've been waiting for a deal for the Chromecast..Bummer. Out of Stock :(

at $56 normally, the difference is only the cost of 2.5 medium coffees. I do away 3 coffees in a month and dont have to wait for the deals.
But then again, I havent earned the Ozb exalted status.
im tipping GG will have another 20% soon.
