not the cheapest, i got this exact rig for $600 a month ago. can give a mini review if anyone wants one.

I'm looking at getting something like this so I can teach my wife to play support. Noone ever buys wards so I'll bring my own….I'm concerned the PSU won't last more than 8 months and the case will vibrate like an old Ericsson. Other than that is it ok? Is the ram super nasty or will it play nice with any other 8gb stick?

You just reminded me why this is such a too good to be true deal.

        The PSU is scary.

But replace that and the build should be fine.

        • +2

I think spending $30 more on the motherboard would make a big diff too. That said the CPU and GPU come to about $600 alone.

          • @PlagueistheCheap: No doubt the deal is on the savings made on the cpu and gpu but is it worth it to replace the psu and then have to sell the old psu.

You could probably sell everything minus the cpu and gpu and probably make $200 if you are lucky essentially getting a RX580 for $200 but the work and postage involved would be annoying but for some worth it.

@AlienC: You can buy used 8gb 580s for $150 and even used 480's for $100. I'd much rather just go down that route. The beauty of these systems lies in that they are pre-built, and requires the end user to simply turn it on and use it. Anyone with the capacity to change PC parts around should stick with building their own for the reasons outlined already in this thread

              • @scottySK: Very true. This is basically the link you recommend to a friend who you can't build a pc directly for for whatever reason.

Just buy plug in and go (and pray the psu doesn't die on you).

                • @AlienC: Yep and hope it lives so your friend doesn't blame you for wasting their $600 haha

                  • @scottySK: Yep exactly. This is honestly a gamble buy.

              • -1

@scottySK: Incorrect. End user cannot simply turn it on and use it. Windows is not included for this price.

                • @Elyxar: Do they at least install the unactivated windows 10 image? If not, who do they expect to buy this PC?

                  • +2

@scottySK: They do install unactivated windows. From my experience, just meant an unappealing lock screen and a mildly annoying water mark

i've just upgraded the psu and case in mine because i didnt like the case and the PSU is hot garbage in this system but the rest of the parts are pretty good. do the $20 upgrade to b350 (i should've done this) 8gb of ram is plenty for league or dota and its 2400mhz so its average but it works fine for low tier gaming like csgo, league, etc. i play assetto corsa too and it runs smooth so it's fine for now, ill be upgrading to 3200mhz+ 16gb kit eventually but its not needed. the pc took 24 days from purchase to pick up btw. i also just bought myself a seasonic 760w platinum rated psu for it because the psu inside is so loud at idle and louder at load. case is OK but not great. custom fan curve on the gpu is a must because i got the msi armor rx 580 and its loud too without a custom curve to set it to 0% fan under 60c. stock cpu cooler is decent.

        • Looks like you did everything well my only curious question for me is does the original build code with any WiFi?

Does your current upgraded revised build now have WiFi and which version WiFi n or WiFi ac?

          Otherwise everything else seems fine.

Yeah 8gb ram is fine 16gb will just make sure you can multitask better.

Other than maybe more fans for heat and thermal management it looks good.

@AlienC: motherboard doesn't have wireless onboard but you could easily install a wireless card if needed. i installed a wireless N card i found at work to use wireless when im in the loungeroom. it comes with 1 exhaust fan and the case has a mount for a 120mm fan or a 3.5" drive. i'd say b350 upgrade + new psu is a must do upgrade, case is optional but you'll get low\average airflow in the case it comes with. its a decent budget rig and you've saved 200-400 from purchasing all new plus you can upgrade bits at a time if you cannot afford to build a $1500 ish system out right. also i dont think you can turn the RGBs off in that case without unplugging it. it comes with a 128gb drive as well and you're left with 60-70gb after a windows install so either purchasing a cheap secondary ssd or 2tb hard drive for storage might be worth doing as well.

            • @HKS: Definitely the best value and imho good sweet spot for any kind of gaming atm between 1080p and 1440p.

If you want the best you will be literally paying double for just the gpu alone.

            • +2

@HKS: Took me a while to find out, but hold the button that changes the rgb to turn it off.

Just give us a few quick observations from using it so far like some things you like and dislike about it.

We can't feel the case or see the workmanship inside for example or the mystery bag parts they decided to use in your case for example so report on that.

      • read my other reply. let me know if i missed anything.

  • So are people saying that this would be a much better computer if we upgrade the motherboard ($30), power supply to 750W ($30) and then it'll be a pretty solid rig?

    • +4

      BYO PSU
      Upgrade mobo

      • @worrierwan do this. buy a 650-750w gold or platinum rated psu. get their upgraded b350 option and its a solid rig.

Yes pretty much looks at it again Yes.

Just don't forget to budget enough for a HDD as well.. you don't need SSD for anything more than a boot drive and some small programs.

I game on a 7200 rpm 8TB mechanical hard drive and it is fine I keep up nicely with my hardcore m.2/NVMe SSD advocate gamer friends nicely in loads of games.. it is literally like maybe max 10-20 seconds loading times savings in most games which is honestly a good time to catch your breath in crazy competitive games.

Only buy a SSD if you know the benefit with other use case scenarios like editing, rendering and 3D modelling work which the SSD then makes for a sweet super responsive scrubbing and pre-loading/pre-rendering drive.

Honestly I am considering selling my 2TB Micron 1100 SSD and getting some more mechanical drives as the price premium is pretty crazy when you look at it $25 to $32/TB for a mechanical HDD compared to $150 to $180/TB for a decent SSD that is basically 5 to 6x more space for the same price and slightly less faster loading times haha lol.

But I do believe in having a SSD for a boot drive and a few commonly used programs for that it does make a nice difference.

Anyways back on topic.. this is a great deal unless you can wait for their better closer to $600 previous deals those extra $ could mean the difference between getting a 1TB or a 4TB hehe lol.

  • With all the complaints about the poor PSU, about time they listed an upgrade option for that like the motherboard to save spending extra money on one later.

  • There's currently an April special that's going on for another 2 days, and I wanted to know whether I should buy it (https://techfast.com.au/products/april-special-amd-ryzen-5-2…) Is it worth it to get the pc with the AMD B350M Motherboard for $50 extra, 1TB Hard Disk Drive for $70 and a different power supply, as other comments say? And specifically, should I get the 750W Power Supply for $49.00 or the 850W 80+ Gold Power Supply for $179.00.

  • Bought this same model last month. Great PC for the price

But my PSU blew up last night after doing some light gaming. So all the OzBargainers hating on the generic PSU aren't wrong…it's a part I wish I replaced from day one (just didn't want to re-route all the cables!)
