  • Simply spend $250 in 3 or more transactions on your mobile and/or wearable device by 26th May 2019.

$750 or $250 minimum spending? Got the same email

    • I believe it's total $250 over 3 or more transactions, because I don't think you're allowed to tap-and-go above $100.

      • +5

You can tap and go over $100, but it's tap and enter pin and go

        • +1

Ah, I didn't know that. Thanks!

      • I haven't had to use a PIN either over $100 if I paid using Apple Pay. Face ID must be the equivalent check.

  • +1

Same email, $250 spend for me. 10% off basically.

  • I'll give this a try in Japan next week

    • Note many stores in Japan often do not accept credit card, and even if they do, it's likely they will require a signature rather than tap-to-pay.

      • +3

Every convini I've ever tried has accepted CC, same goes for chain restaurants and stores. I've only really run into cash-only for small bars and tiny restaurants. Japan banks seem to be starting to push people away from cash (FINALLY!)

Tap is starting to take off too, when I was there in July I tapped and signed with my 28 degree card in a few places.

        • In terms of Japan's push away from cash, I've heard the government there decided to increase the consumer tax (8% -> 10%), but cashless payments (IC cards, credit cards etc) get the 2% refunded. I think in part in preparation for Tokyo Olympics.

          • @highwind: It's funny that Suica/Passmo/ICOCA cards are accepted at millions of places but nobody taps. If any country is already primed for tap it's Japan!

Also the Japanese gov't should thank 7-11 for their push to get ATM's working for foreigners. Could you imagine hundreds of thousands of tourists lining up for post office ATM's.

    • +1

99.9% places in Japan don't do tap, it's always sign :(

      • U can tap at some places such as familymart

        • I tried they looked at me weird and took my card to do it manually lol

          • @fishball: No longer a tech advanced economy like it used to be….

            • @Maxxjet: Kinda. They have IC cards which are like our Opal/Myki cards and those work in so many places so they do tap and go just not with their CCs.

Same with Hong Kong, Octopus cards accepted everywhere no reason to tap with CC (for them).

In Australia we just don't have anything like that prior to Paypass/Paywave

  • Cool, doubt I'll use it much after the promo but at least I found out google pay can also store all my loyalty cards!

  • Can you post the URL to the activate link? Didn't get the email but I'll have a go at activating anyway if I can.

    • I think the URL is referenced to my card specifically, as when I click it, it automatically says "activated" even without having logged in first. Unfortunately it's not like the AmEx ones that then lets you put in your card details.

  • What makes you think this is targeted? Just seems like a campaign to encourage apple pay etc.

    • +1

      Hilarious username!! :-)

      • Only that the T&Cs say "You have been specifically selected for this offer and it is not transferable." and recently some people on OzBargain seem to have a bit of a rage when they didn't get an offer for posts with no "targeted" tag…

        • Too soon…

  • I got $10 off $100. Card probably hasn't been used for at least a year

    • I got the same as OP even though I use the card here and there (not often but not rarely either)

  • Can one buy egift cards from cashrewards/shopback and pay with Google Pay to take advantage of this?

    • Gift-cards are a tricky one as sometimes they're processed as 'cash' and you get stung with interest from day one, negating any savings.

      • Wow, just no to that as well.

    • No

    • You can use Apple pay at least on the prezee app.

Gift cards are at face value there so you'll only save additional 5% on top of the regular 5% you would have from cashrewards/shopback etc

Is there an option online somewhere to subscribe to the emails? I never seem to get any offers from them.

    • This. Help.

    • +2

Under "Manage my Details" there's a statement that says "To opt out of direct marketing call 1300 552 079", so maybe you can call and tell them to (re)tick some box for marketing? Not sure unfortunately…

      • Thanks for that. I called them and they just told me the system randomly selects customers for the promo emails.

  • I use the card from time to time and got the $250 spend/$25 credit email, but no use to me unfortunately as my iPhone 5S isn't compatible.

  • +1

Wish I had a phone with NFC! Any idea if this will work for purchases made through Google pay for things like Uber, etc?

  • Can anyone advise how to set up Google Pay on a Xiaomi phone? Thanks.
EDIT: Just tried and it works, would not work previously, guess they fixed it up in the latest version.

  • Anyone already using mobile wallets with this card got targeted? I might have to remove the card from all mobile wallets if that's the case.

    • I removed my card from Google Pay after the last promo still didn't get anything, if I had to guess it'd be targeting people that have never used this on their phones before.

      • I used it before but stopped using it for a different card in the last 3 months and got the email.

  • Two questions here that need rectifying

    1. What if the last transaction to qualify "over $250" is made on Sunday 26th May, yet the status is "Pending" over the weekend, and is processed on 27th May, does that null achieving $250+?

    2. "The $25 credit will be credited to your account within 60 days of the offer end date." That means Latitude will credit the account well into the next billing cycle. If you pay your statement balance in full each billing cycle through direct debit, won't that mean the card will have a credit balance for the next billing cycle?

So it means you are spending $275 but only paying $250, as opposed to spending $250 and paying only $225?

  • used mine every day. didnt get the email

    • Probably the reason why, as they're trying to attract new users.

    • I never use mine and didn't receive the email.

      • Same. Would use Google pay backed by 28 degrees for groceries if targeted for a decent offer, but without an offer will just use a different physical card that earns frequent flyer points.

  • Got the email for $25 credit. Clicked the link to activate and then enabled the card in my Google Pay Wallet.

About 30mins later got an SMS from 28Degrees "We have blocked your card as a precaution due to suspicious activity. Please call Latitude on 1300305884 or is overseas +61 1300305884 to discuss.

I dont know, seems a bit sus so I called the number on the back of the credit card and got a message saying they are experiencing technical difficulties and have high call volume and then it hangs up.

    • +1

Update: When I finally got through they advised that the Google Pay activation was the suspicious activity. /face palm.

      • Probably because a tiny amount which they put as a pre auth

  • not received

  • The offer I have is $20 back with $100 spend.

Does anyone else never receive promotional / marketing deals or info from 28 degrees? I’ve had a card for over 5 years and can’t remember ever receiving one email or deal from them. I wonder if I opted out of
    promotional material on sign up…

    • call them and opt in to promo material and wait and watch for the next one

  • Would this work to purchase $250 worth of Woolworths Opal train top ups over three transactions? For example $100 + $100 + $50 = $250 ?

    • Better get three Woolies gift cards with 5% off at Cashrewards in 3 transactions and then use them to recharge Opal.

      • +1

How do you get three Woolies gift cards with 5% off at Cashrewards using a mobile wallet?

  • Finally going to cancel my 28 degrees card. I only use it for overseas travel and on the Monday before the Thursday I was due to fly out my card was cancelled due to a fraud attempt. Fine, I ordered a new one to be sent urgently. Didn't receive it before Thursday morning. Landed in my destination and immediately ordered an emergency card to be sent to me as I was staying there for 3 nights. STILL didn't get a new card and on top of that the card was apparently for internet use only not swipe or tap transactions?!

Given up on them, have been using cash for 3 weeks now. Bye bye 28 degrees.

    • +2

When I travel I now try to have 2 or 3 fee free methods of payment. Eg 28 degrees + citibank plus debit + wife's ING everyday card for overseas atm withdrawals. Because sooner or later one method will stop working at the worst possible time.

28 degrees is still a decent product, but it no longer has the unique value proposition it once had. And since GE money sold the business, I've read more complaints about the card stopping working (eg whilst overseas) + the removal of paying your statement with BPAY.

The Macquarie card or citibank plus seem to be decent replacements.

      • Does ING work for transactions too or just ATM withdrawals?

      • Yes I know. I'm using Citibank plus for cash. Will be applying for a different fee free credit card when I get back.

  • Hi guys,

Does anyone know if it has to be 3 separate retailers or will 1 retailer in 3 transactions suffice? I couldn't really find much details about it. Also, how will you know if the offer has been succesfully redeemed?

  • I just did a $250 purchase… now going to add two small purchases… hope it works..

  • Anyone received credit yet?

    • +1

The $25 credit will be credited to your account within 60 days of the offer end date

      I wouldn't expect it until July…

  • Merged from Anyone Received $25 Credit from 28 Degree Card for Spending $250 for 3 E Wallet Purchase Back in May/2019?

Does any one receive the credit in your statement yet?

Or any one make an complain and got the credit?

I called and they just say I should get the credit on my statement after 60 days it can be update to 90 days, I complain that the T&C stated that it should get credit within 60 days, then they said they will investigate.

I highly doubted that they are doing it on propose and people just forget about it or don't want to chase up for $25.

    Original post: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/453059

    • I haven't received. Just called them and they said they will investigate and the credit will be added to my account.

    • I haven't received it yet - I'm going to call them this afternoon. The last time I had this sort of promotion, I had to chase them up as well.

      • -1

This is very dissapointing to know

    • I received mine on the 26th of July.

  • Still no credit and this is not the first time they are doing this.

  • +2

FYI guys, for those who haven't gotten it (probably everyone), I contacted their chat function about it yesterday. Apparently, according to the staff, the promotion was extended by a couple of months for some people and hence the "60 days" is actually still a couple of months away.

Sounds stupid, I know. But they were happy enough to credit me right away with no hassle, so please contact them via chat!

    • This is not what they have told me today. Literally, I chat with them about minutes ago and they said the credit will be applied in the next statement within 48 hours from today.

      • Agreed - I was told it would be credited within the next 5-7 days.

        • +1

Speaking of the devil, $25 credit is in my account this morning with description of Gesture Goodwill. What does it tell you?

    • Hi,

I did what you said and the rep was able to add the $25 to my account over webchat. Thanks!
