David Jones AmEx Platinum: 50k Points/ $295 Annual Fee, Regular: 40k Points/ $99 Annual Fee ($750 Min Spend)

80

It looks like David Jones/American Express have bumped up the sign up bonuses for their cards. It's not the best they've run, but it's okay for people sitting out the Amex embargo on sign up points.

50k bonus points for the platinum card. $295 annual fee.
40k bonus points for the regular card. $99 annual fee.

Mod Edit: 1 Reward Point = 0.5 Qantas Points 50,000 Membership Rewards Points or 25,000 Qantas Points (Platinum) 40,000 Membership Rewards Points or 20,000 Qantas Points (regular) Sources: https://www.americanexpress.com/au/credit-cards/david-jones-… https://www.americanexpress.com/au/credit-cards/david-jones-… (Thanks SocietyBox)

  • Old card member ineligible.

18month wait if u precious owned

    • That's right - but only if you've held the Daivd Jones Amex before. Other bank issued or Amex issued cards don't count towards the 18 month embargo on this card. Similarly getting this card doesn't affect your eligibility for an Amex issued card (With sign up points)

      • So correct me if im wrong but if I cancelled my amex explorers I would still be able to apply for this card right?

        • That's right - the david jones amex and westpac amex don't count towards the embargo period.

          • @salmon123: Awesome! Would you know if it's worth applying for this card or another if in churning? This is all new to me

            • @cerealz:

This is all new to me

I'd only apply for this, if you've already been through the rest of the offers (Amex, ANZ, Westpac, StGeorge, etc) and are sitting out the 12-18month waiting period.

          • @salmon123: Hi Salmon
So I have been using altitude westpac black issued by amex. Am I eligible for any other amex card sign up bonus? I have read somewhere that its ineligible if its the card issued by amex even if its westpac altitude. Wanted to kick myself in the butt since I got it for little bonus point. Now patiently waiting for 17 months

            Thanks!

@spendy: I've been told by amex staff on their online chat that Westpac and David Jones cards don't count towards the 18month embargo.

You could be eligible for bonus points with any amex issued card and thus David Jones amex card.

              • @salmon123: Amazing! Look forward for the next great amex deal. πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

    My precious :)

  • whats the 50k equivalent to?

    • 37.5k qantas points

I'm not sure about the gift card conversion factor. I'd guess around $500.

      • +1

Nope. 15 000 Membership Rewards points equals $100 DJs Gift Card.

I don't think 10k points is hardly worth $196, better off sticking to the regular if you are churning this one I think

  • Can the MR be transferred to velocity?

    • +3

Yes, 2MR = 1 Velocity or Etihad Guest or Asia Mile or Emirates Skyward or Malaysia Enrich or KrisFlyer or Thai or Virgin Atlantic Flying Club.

Also 200 MR points = 1 Air NZ Airpoint.

      1,000 MR = 1,000 Hilton Honors.
      3 MR = 2 Marriott Bonvoy points.

As you earn 3MR points per $spent at Supermarkets and Petrol Stations, it converts quite well (e.g. $2 spend = 3 Velocity points).

      • Thanks bro

      • Wow! Just learned of the new Asia Miles rate. Quite disappointing!

These cards are only really useful if you shop at DJs, but even if you don't currently it's seriously worth a look - DJs have some amazing deep discounts from time to time (check pricehipster regularly) and the free shipping benefit makes accessing those deals viable.

and most of the amazing deals tend to be out of stock and order is cancelled. All 4 of my orders with multiple items in each were cancelled last year. I just cancelled my DJ Amex. now with the points worth a lot less

    • +1

As someone who never has to pay for their DJs Amex card, I concur that it's only heaps useful if you shop at DJs a lot. If I wanted something from Myer, I'd go buy Myer gift cards at Woolies to get three points per dollar …

Free gift wrapping is a plus though since they try and slug you $10 for it if you don't have a DJs card.

      • If I wanted something from Myer, I'd go buy Myer gift cards at Woolies to get three points per dollar …

Seems like a lot of hassle for an additional 1.5points/dollar … just need to get lumped with 1 gift card, because of a return and it all starts to seem like a waste of time.

        • I don't think I need to return my brow waxes at Benefit, so I'm good. If I used my DJs Amex at Myer, it'd be one point per dollar.

      • yeah I have the scorecard for this reason, the extra discount early, when they have stock
no fees but can only use in fj and it has been phased out

      • Is there a non-employee/former employee way to get the card without an annual fee?

        • Yeah, get offered an upgrade from the Storecard (which is why mine is still free even though I no longer work for David Jones)

Edit: what’s with the neg? The upgrade was offered in 2015 …

I went to DJ signed up to this card to get 20% off a bigger purchase than called up to cancel the card the next day.

  • "This exclusive offer is only available to David Jones customers who received a communication from David Jones about the offer." Try at your own risk.

"1 Reward Point = 0.5 Qantas Points" How did you get 0.75?

    • "This exclusive offer is only available to David Jones customers who received a communication from David Jones about the offer." Try at your own risk.

Where do you see that? It's posted all over the amex website and David Jones Sydney City stores, so I imagine it's widely available.

"1 Reward Point = 0.5 Qantas Points" How did you get 0.75?

Amex website (link above) under the "Your choice of reward program" section … although I do see the 1 point = 0.5 qantas points in another section now.

      • "This exclusive offer is only available to David Jones customers who received a communication from David Jones about the offer."

If you click the "Learn More" link for either card, it's in the "Terms & Conditions". Also from the "Learn More" pages:

Receive 50,000 Membership Rewards Points or 25,000 Qantas Points
Receive 40,000 Membership Rewards Points or 20,000 Qantas Points

    • Yeah there are signs everywhere instore at the david jones I went to today, so this definitely isn't targeted

      • Good to know. For anyone who needs reassurance, the deal is also listed on Qantas. But it is definitely 1 Reward Point = 0.5 Qantas Points.

  • wired, amex referral offer is still at 25k and 40k points. Normally its either the same as amex.com.au offer or slightly higher.
